Cambridge dictionary adds new AI-related definition of ‘Slop'
Online interest in the term has surged since April 2024, as concerns mount over the flood of AI-generated content with little value or originality.
Colin McIntosh, Programme Manager at Cambridge Dictionary, said, 'The updated definition reflects a real cultural concern: the growing volume of poor-quality AI-generated material.
It underscores the importance of maintaining quality, creativity, and integrity—traits that remain deeply human.'
Wendalyn Nichols, Publishing Manager, added, 'Just as we once saw the rise of terms like email and hashtag, today we're watching AI terminology become part of our daily vocabulary. Our role is to track these evolving usages and identify which are likely to stick.'

Oasis's eagerly-anticipated reunion tour finally kicks off tonight at Cardiff's Principality Stadium, before they go on to tour the country and world Oasis fans looking for some grub ahead of the first gig of their hugely-anticipated reunion can grab free sandwiches today. Fast-food giant Subway are rolling out a truck to feed fans who have queued early outside Cardiff's Principality Stadium today. It's the venue of Liam and Noel Gallagher's first concert together since 2009, kicking off a global tour. The branded truck is offering a specially curated menu, with slogans outside including "you gotta roll with it" and "definitely, Maybe Hungry?" And the puns continue with the one-day-only menu, which includes meaty options of Don't Look Back in Banger, Deli With It and Cluck 'n' Roll Star. There's also The Masterplant - featuring a plant patty, vegan cheese and salad – for vegetarians. Kirstey Elston, Senior Director, EMEA at Subway, said: "Oasis fans have already spent a lot to be part of this epic night - so we're picking up the tab for the pre-show Subs. "Whether you've followed them for decades or you're here for the throwback, come and find us in Cardiff and grab a bite on us." It's not the only gift Oasis fans in Cardiff have been given today. "They've had a massive upgrade on their tickets which is fantastic for them. They've left here deliriously happy." Centenary plans for 1st Uddingston Boys' Brigade
Former members are invited to join in with the series of special events planned for May 2026. A Lanarkshire Boys' Brigade company is getting set to mark its centenary, and former members are being invited to join in with the weekend of anniversary celebrations next year. Volunteers at 1st Uddingston will host a display, exhibition, reunion dinner and church service in May 2026 in honour of the company's 100th anniversary. They have launched an online survey aiming to reconnect with former members to invite them to join in the celebrations of the company's century of rich history – which includes hundreds of members over the years earning the prestigious King's and Queen's badges as well as hosting camps across Europe. 1st Uddingston's plans begin with a special centenary display on Friday, May 15, 2026, followed the next day by and exhibition and dinner in Uddingston with special guest speakers, and then a commemorative Sunday service at Uddingston Old Parish Church. All events are open to former members of the group, and anyoen who was a young member or volunteer is invited to register interest by completing an online survey at Company captain Alan Cowan said: 'Having been a member of this remarkable organisation for more than five decades, I've been privileged to witness its growth, challenges and successes. Chilling new details emerge after the decomposed bodies of two men were found inside a Surry Hills inner-city terrace
Grim new details have emerged after the decomposed bodies of two elderly men were found inside a rundown terrace. Police made the grisly finds after they received a request to conduct a welfare check at a Cleveland Street home in Sydney 's inner-city Surry Hills on Thursday. The bodies of the men, aged in their 70s and 80s were found in different levels of the home, which was so decrepit that some shocked locals thought it was abandoned. Police say a woman was living with the bodies of two men for almost a month. Eleanor Barker, 63, has since spoken with detectives. Police say she isn't suspected of any wrongdoing involved the deaths. No arrests or charges have been laid. A police source told the Sydney Morning Herald the discovery was being considered as 'a sad story at this stage'. Neighbours told Nine News that Ms Barker had appeared 'upbeat' in recent days. Other neighbours recalled Ms Baker regularly but had not seen the men for 'quite some time'. The only obvious signs of the tragedy on Friday were police tape at the property and dozens of officers examining the home. Described as a hoarder's house, the home was infested with rats and birds. From the street, it appeared rundown, with piles of discarded items strewn across the front of the terrace. 'I mean I've always seen this house, I didn't know if people lived in it, but it doesn't really look like people do,' neighbour Aisha Mingai said. Police and forensic officers combed the property on Friday, where detectives seized electrical cables. Officers also doorknocked neighbours to gather more information. Police are now working to determine why the deaths went unreported for so long. Police also hope that autopsies will shed light of how and when the men died. The bodies were so decomposed that the identities of the men are yet to be confirmed. However, it's understood their bodies had no obvious signs of injury Neighbour Mitchell Morri told Nine News he often saw the men outside the house. 'They're really nice, I'd always pass them on the street. One of the guys used to have a VB longneck out the front,' he said. Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers.
