Trio of Gators among college prospects primed to boost pro stock after returning to school

USA Today14 hours ago
There still remains the entire 2025-26 college basketball campaign before the next NBA draft, but that certainly has not slowed down the national sports media when it comes to making projections, despite the additional fact that the event is 11 months in the future.
The latest to offer their prognostications is CBS Sports writer Cameron Salerno, who published his list of 10 college prospects primed to boost pro stock after returning to school for next season. Among those names were a trio of Florida Gators, in junior forwards Thomas Haugh and Alex Condon (who also plays center), as well as recent transfer portal addition, sophomore guard Boogie Fland.
Salerno's top-10 list focuses specifically on players who shunned the draft to return to college who project as potential first-round picks next summer. Of course, these predictions are predicated on the assumption that there will be improvements in performance this season.
Thomas Haugh
"While putting together my first mock draft of the cycle in April, I initially had Haugh as a potential first-round candidate before he decided to return to Florida. That was without even going through the draft process. I'm here to tell you: buy all the stock you can in Florida's star forward," Salerno begins.
"Haugh shined during Florida's NCAA Tournament run because he does all the little things. He's a great offensive rebounder, can stretch the floor and makes winning plays. His archetype is one NBA decision-makers covet," he continues.
"Don't be surprised if Haugh is a lottery pick next summer. He has a chance to be an All-America candidate if things go well."
Alex Condon
"Condon made the right decision to return to school after his play during the NCAA Tournament failed to improve his stock," Salerno notes.
"Without a guarantee of going in the first round, Condon decided to run it back and solidified the best frontcourt in college basketball in the process. The two-way upside is what has my attention."
Boogie Fland
"The reigning national champions got a major boost to their repeat hopes by landing Fland. The Arkansas transfer got off to an incredible start in his freshman campaign before a thumb injury derailed his season during SEC play," he offers.
"Fland is a dynamic playmaker who can score at all three levels and his move to Florida is a perfect match for both sides. He was trending as a potential lottery pick before the injury."

NBA》菜市場名換人當!夏季聯賽爆出4個Kobe

(Kobe Johnson)。 Kobe Bufkin TOOK OVER in the 4th quarter to secure the Hawks 1st summer league dub...29 points3 assists3 stocks (2 3P blocks)15/15 from the FT line64.2 TS%dropped 17 points in the 4th to fuel a clinching 28-9 run — #InSnyderWeTrust (@dlee4three) July 11, It's time to reinstate our wins, induct Coach Fisher into the hall of fame and the FAB FIVE TOO!!!!!

"How do you rein in Kobe?" - Lakers insider reveals Andrew Bynum's question to front office during extension talks

"How do you rein in Kobe?" - Lakers insider reveals Andrew Bynum's question to front office during extension talks originally appeared on Basketball Network. Playing with Kobe Bryant was both a blessing and a curse, and Andrew Bynum experienced this during his tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers. In his extension negotiation with the Lakers front office in 2012, Bynum wanted clarity on whether Kobe would step aside. Advertisement "Andrew's question in contract talks was: 'How are you going to rein in Kobe?'" an anonymous Lakers insider told ESPN's Henry Abbott. "We couldn't give direct answers. My immediate thought was, Well, he doesn't want to play with Kobe if we can't answer that question." The silence only meant one thing: There was no stopping Kobe from doing things his way, and the Lakers brass understood that. L.A. failed to extend the 7-footer beyond 2012-13, so they sent him to Philadelphia in the trade that brought Dwight Howard to Hollywood. Bynum believed Bryant held him back By the time he was dealt, Bynum had emerged as one of the league's top centers, averaging close to 19 points, 12 boards and two blocks in 2011-12. He and Bryant had already won two titles, and some felt his size could've made a difference in the 2008 Finals. Advertisement Looking back on his time with the Lakers, Bynum explained how playing with the Black Mamba was a double-edged sword. "I thought it really helped me a lot, obviously at first, because he draws so much attention it's hard for guys to double-team and key on you, so it helped me tremendously," Bynum told a group of reporters, per ESPN's Dave McMenamin. "Later, I felt I was able to get the ball more and do more things with the ball, so I could definitely see how it could stunt growth." Bynum entered the league straight out of high school and made steady strides every year. By 2012, he had developed into a polished low-post scorer with solid instincts on both ends of the floor. It's not hard to imagine him taking another leap if the offense had been tailored more around him. Interestingly, Bryant understood where Bynum came from. He drew parallels to his time with Shaquille O'Neal and preached sacrifice when there is more than one mouth to feed on the basketball court. Advertisement "Same thing with me and Shaq," the two-time Finals MVP stated. "You kind of offset each other to a certain extent. So, I mean, that's true. When he gets back and he's healthy, he'll come out here and he'll be the focal point of their attack and he'll be getting the ball more and you'll see big games from him more consistently." Unfortunately, 2011-12 was Bynum's last healthy season. He never suited up in a Sixers uniform unless a press conference with him holding up Philly's blue jersey counts. Andrew played one more season, spending time between Cleveland and Indiana until he was out of the league for good. From LeBron James and Paul George to Carmelo Anthony and Chris Bosh, the Lakers struck out on every major name — and ended up signing a past-his-prime Carlos Boozer instead. Advertisement Abbott also detailed L.A.'s meeting with Howard in 2013 and how Bryant practically dashed any hope of re-signing the two-time Defensive Player of the Year. "As the Lakers' contingent settled into the conference room's ergonomic chairs," Abbott wrote. "It was clear that two-time MVP point guard Steve Nash, in a nice crisp shirt, listening attentively, was running Kupchak's game plan. But Bryant showed up, according to a person in the room, in "hoops shorts, a T-shirt and a gold chain." He had also packed an attitude." Howard raised concerns about being the media scapegoat during the Lakers' disappointing season, but Bryant didn't offer much support. He tried to teach Howard how to toughen up and understand what winning demands, but it wasn't the message Dwight wanted to hear. Days later, Howard signed with the Houston Rockets. Kobe was notoriously hard to play with, but he never denied that. In his mind, the Lakers were the gold standard, demanding sacrifice, accountability, and a mindset that didn't flinch when things got uncomfortable. To Bryant, passing the torch meant handing it to someone who understood that pressure was supposed to be the lifestyle now. Advertisement Bryant never cared much about being liked; he cared about who could handle the weight of being a Laker. If that turned off certain stars, so be it. Related: Rick Fox explains why Kobe never hung out with other teammates: "He was on a course and any minute or day wasted doing something else was going to slow him down getting to that point" This story was originally reported by Basketball Network on Jul 13, 2025, where it first appeared.

'He's Done' - Fans React To NFL Running Back's Arrest On Saturday

'He's Done' - Fans React To NFL Running Back's Arrest On Saturday originally appeared on The Spun. One NFL rookie running back has made his road to getting on the field a lot harder for himself. Though given the charges, it's a bit hard to sympathize. Advertisement On Saturday, Cleveland Browns running back Quinshon Judkins was arrested in Broward County, Florida on charges of battery and domestic violence. Further details on the crime he's been booked for are not currently available. He is still in jail as of writing and his initial court appearance will be on Sunday morning. "Cleveland Browns rookie running back Quinshon Judkins was arrested on a domestic violence and battery charge in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Saturday, according to the Fort Lauderdale Police department and Broward County arrest records," ESPN's Daniel Ayefusi wrote. "Judkins was still in jail as of Saturday night and scheduled to have his initial court appearance Sunday morning, according to court records." Judkins was the No. 36 overall pick by the Browns in the 2025 NFL Draft. He was a record-breaking running back Ole Miss between 2022 and 2023 and helped the Ohio State Buckeyes win a national title in 2024. Advertisement But the domestic violence charges against him have caused the support and respect that Judkins has previously had to evaporate. Across social media, Judkins has been either condemned or mocked by fans in the hours since the news broke. "Dude was so in position. On-field, off-field and fantasy. Then this," one user lamented. "Oooof. And he's unsigned right? There goes that $. For sure lost any leverage he might've had," wrote another. "Geez - first draft pick to be cut," a third predicted. "You have your entire life in front of you and you fumble it." "He's done. Advertisement "What a dumbass. On the verge of becoming a multimillionaire." Quinshon Judkins© Ken Blaze-Imagn Images The Browns used one of the picks they received in the blockbuster Day 1 trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars to bring him into the fold. But like many second-round picks in this year's draft, he remains unsigned due to a dispute over the guaranteed money in the deal. As some online have pointed out, Judkins' arrest is going to send any leverage he might have in negotiations up in smoke. At this point he'll be lucky if he's even allowed to play football in Week 1, let alone if he's being paid the amount he wants. Advertisement Judkins' entire career could be in jeopardy before the first whistle of training camp.
