Caribbean Guard shares more details about Malcolm-Jamal Warner's death
The 54-year-old actor drowned after being caught in a current over the weekend during a family trip to Costa Rica, with the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) declaring his cause of death as "asphyxiation by submersion'.
A new Facebook post from the Caribbean Guard confirmed there was no lifeguard on duty at the time of the accident as they had "allocated resources" elsewhere as a result of other "recent water incidents" at two nearby beaches.
The post said: 'We deeply regret the passing of Malcom - Jamal Warner, in Playa Grande. He was swept away by a strong hangover current and died by drowning. It was all very fast and even though there were people on the beach who came in to rescue him, they didn't arrive in time. He was pulled underwater with no vital signs and despite having been provided with CPR maneuvers on the beach, his resuscitation was unsuccessful.
'Playa Grande is one of our most challenging beaches. It's a beach known by local surfers and there are signs (in English and Spanish) that warn of the danger of death by drowning. It's a beach that the Caribbean Guard has patrolled for the last few years. [Not] this Sunday though.
Due to the recent water incidents on Playa black we have allocated resources there and on Chiquita, another beach, for its currents.
'From Caribbean Guard, association of volunteer lifeguards, we appeal to the President of the Nation, the national government, the Municipality of Talamanca and the entire Caribbean community, to continue joining efforts to minimize this problem, which is sadly rising ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.
'We do everything within our power. We've saved numerous lives in recent years, and if Caribbean Guard didn't exist, drownings would count by the dozens. We do our part to minimize risks but if we don't have government help, clear public policies and strong support from local entrepreneurs, this will keep happening [sic].'
According to PEOPLE, a second man was also caught in the same current as Warner and is in critical condition.

Journalist's horror discovery reporting missing girl case
A Brazilian journalist has made a grim discovery while reporting on a missing schoolgirl who was last seen swimming in the Mearim River in Bacabal, northeastern Brazil. Lenildo Frazão was reporting from chest deep in the river while a segment was filmed, illustrating the depth of the river where the 13-year-old was seen cooling off with friends. 'The water is already above my chest, so you can see the situation there. If I walk a little here, let me see, I'm going to walk a bit more, here it's deep' Frazão confirmed in Spanish as he waded through the water. Chillingly, as he takes a step deeper he immediately springs back in panic, rushing out of the river, holding his microphone above the water's surface. 'I found something at the bottom of the water . . . it wasn't soft' he said. Frazão wasn't exactly sure what he'd felt, but he feared the worst and refused to continue the report. 'No, I'm not going, I'm scared. It felt like an arm, could it be her? But it might be a fish too, I don't know.' Following the reporter's eerie experience, divers and firefighters resumed the search for the missing girl on the morning of June 30. Sadly, they soon located the schoolgirl's body, close to where Frazão had been filming. Frazão wasn't exactly sure what he'd felt, but he feared the worst and refused to continue the report. Frazão had emphasised the river's hazardous risks during the start of his report, emphasising its powerful currents and irregular depth created by holes in the riverbed. Accidental drowning was confirmed as the cause of death after a post-mortem examination revealed no evidence of trauma. Raíssa was buried on June 30 according to The Sun.

Tragic new details of sitcom star Malcolm-Jamal Warner's death
More details are emerging regarding Malcolm-Jamal Warner's tragic drowning death. The Cosby Show actor died at the weekend after being 'caught by a high current' at Costa Rica's Playa Grande beach in Cahuita, Limón, while on a family vacation. Lifeguards were 'not present' at the time — despite patrolling there 'over the last few years' — due to a 'lack of resources,' according to the Caribbean Guard, Costa Rica's volunteer lifeguard association. In a Facebook statement shared Monday, the organisation called Playa Grande a 'challenging' beach with signs in both English and Spanish warning of drowning risk. However, 'due to recent aquatic incidents in Playa Negra,' the Caribbean Guard had 'redirected resources there and to Chiquita, another iconic beach known for its strong currents.' The statement claimed that Warner's drowning 'happened very quickly,' noting, 'Although there were people on the beach who entered the water to rescue him, they did not arrive in time.' The Caribbean Guard continued, 'He was pulled from underwater without vital signs, and despite CPR manoeuvres being performed on the beach, resuscitation was unsuccessful.' The Costa Rican Red Cross similarly revealed to People that three ambulances arrived at Playa Grande on Sunday after a 2:10pm report about a 'water-related' incident. 'Two people were dragged by a water current at the beach' and were out by the time paramedics showed up, with Warner declared dead at the scene following CPR. As for the second individual, the unidentified man treated alongside the 54-year-old is in critical condition. The Judicial Investigation Agency also confirmed to the outlet that Warner was declared 'lifeless at the scene.' News broke of Warner's drowning on Monday, hours after a woman named Kimara, appearing to be his cousin, tweeted about her heartbreak. 'My cousin died yesterday after drowning in costa rica,' she wrote via X. 'Yall pls be safe out here while travelling and doing water sports. Wear life jackets etc.' Warner is survived by a wife and daughter, whose identities he has kept private over the years. In addition to playing Theodore Huxtable on The Cosby Show, the Emmy nominee is best known for his roles in Malcolm & Eddie, Reed Between the Lines and The Resident.

Two sailors rescued after ‘cool, calm and collected' orcas ram yacht
Sailors encountering orcas in British waters have been warned to switch off their engines and lower their sails or risk being rammed after the animals targeted a yacht in Spain. Two sailors were saved by the Spanish coastguard after their vessel, Azurea, was targeted by the orcas off the coast of the Basque country on Monday afternoon. The French yacht was rammed about 2pm local time, two nautical miles from the Basque coastal town of Deba in northern Spain. The coastguard rescued the pair, one of whom was aged 60, after they sent out a mayday distress call. Both were taken 'safe and sound' to the port of Getaria. Rescuers said such incidents were 'uncommon' so far north in the Atlantic. While such incidents are rare in the Basque Country, they are a well-known phenomenon further south in the province of Galicia and in the 'orca alley' of the Strait of Gibraltar, where boats have been sunk. The orcas approach from the stern and hit the rudder before losing interest once they have stopped the boat in a phenomenon that scientists have struggled to fully explain. It is thought the orcas responsible for the incidents number 15 out of a pod of 50 whales. This latest incident comes in the same month that wildlife experts confirmed the first ever sighting of Iberian orcas in Cornish waters. In 2023, a killer whale barged into a fishing boat near Shetland in Scotland in what was the first and, so far, only orca attack in British waters since the phenomenon began.
