Malegaon verdict ‘slap on the faces' of those who used the term ‘saffron terror', says Pragya Thakur

Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Pragya Singh Thakur, who was recently acquitted in the 2008 Malegaon blasts case, said on Sunday (August 3, 2025) in Bhopal that the court verdict was a 'slap on the faces' of those who used terms such as 'saffron terror' to describe the incident. ''Satyamev Jayate' (truth always triumphs), which has been said in our scriptures, has been proven. Those who used to say bhagwa atankwad (saffron terrorism), their faces have been blackened. The society and the country have given them a solid reply. The court's decision is crystal clear and it is a slap on the faces of those who called it saffron terror,' Ms. Thakur, a former Lok Sabha member from Bhopal, said after arriving at Bhopal. The court said that the prosecution had failed to prove its case, including the allegation that the motorcycle on which the bomb was allegedly strapped belonged to Ms. Thakur. Speaking to media persons outside Bhopal's Raja Bhuj International Airport, Ms. Thakur dubbed the court's verdict a 'victory of religion and truth'. She reiterated her claims that, during her time in jail, she had been 'pressurised and tortured' into naming several senior political and social leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was the Chief Minister of Gujarat at the time. I didn't take those names; I didn't act as they wanted me to. So, they tortured me. Those names especially included Mohan Bhagwat, Ram Madhav, PM Modi, Yogi Adityanath, Indresh Kumar and other leaders,' Ms. Thakur said. The court, however, rejected her claims of torture while noting that Ms. Thakur had not raised any such complaint when she was produced before a magistrate following her arrest.

‘Officer Param bir broke every law': Former BJP MP Pragya Thakur launches fierce attack on ex-Mumbai police commissioner

BHOPAL: 'Param Bir Singh is a depraved and disgraceful officer who broke every law,' former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur said on Sunday in Bhopal, launching a fierce attack on the former Mumbai Police Commissioner and the Maharashtra ATS. Thakur, who was recently acquitted in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, alleged she was illegally detained and tortured because she refused to name top BJP and RSS leaders. Thakur claimed that during her interrogation, she was pressured to implicate senior figures like RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat, PM Narendra Modi, UP CM Yogi Adityanath , Indresh Kumar, and former BJP leader Ram Madhav . 'They told me to say these leaders told me to do it. I refused—and that's why they tortured me,' she said in Bhopal while addressing the media. She alleged that she was held illegally for 13 days, remained in police custody for 24 days, and was physically and mentally harassed by ATS officers, including male personnel. 'They crossed all limits. Every law was broken,' Pragya said. Thakur accused the Congress-led UPA govt of misusing investigative agencies to 'create fear' and label Hindutva as terrorism. 'The entire ecosystem was used to demonise Hindus, saints, and even the armed forces. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Health: the best shoes to walk and stand all day Ultra-Comfortable Shoes Undo They tried to erase our identity,' she added further. Without directly naming Congress veteran Digvijaya Singh, she said, 'That man is not worth naming. Whoever takes his name in the morning will have a bad day.' She also referred to co-accused who allegedly died under suspicious circumstances. 'One woman still doesn't know if she's a widow. That's the extent to which they went,' she added. 'The court has now said those who presented false evidence must be investigated. I'm confident they will be punished,' Thakur said, adding, 'We work for rashtra neeti, not rajneeti.' Malegaon blast case verdict is victory of Hindutva: Pragya Singh Thakur

Former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur on Sunday said the special court's verdict acquitting her in the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case was a victory of Hindutva and a "slap on the face" of people who coined the term "saffron terror". The special court on July 31 acquitted Thakur, Lt Col Prasad Purohit and five others in the case, noting that the prosecution had not adduced cogent and reliable evidence to warrant conviction and prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt. Six people were killed and 101 were injured in the blast in Maharashtra's Nashik district on September 29, 2008. Speaking to reporters at the Raja Bhoj International Airport on her arrival in the city, Thakur said, "This is a victory of Hindutva and religion, a victory of saffron. Our scriptures say 'Satyamev Jayate' (truth alone triumphs), and it has been proved. Those who spoke of saffron terror have been shamed." The society and the country have given a befitting reply to those who coined the term saffron terror, she said, adding that the court's decision was a slap on the face of opponents. Thakur arrived at her Bhopal residence to a grand welcome with garlands, drums, and sweets. The former BJP MP also reiterated her allegation that she had been tortured and pressured to name several individuals. "There was pressure, but I did not yield. I did not name anyone falsely, which is why I was tortured so severely," she claimed. Thakur had on Saturday alleged that investigators had tortured her and tried to compel her to name people, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Notably, Special Judge A K Lahoti has dismissed Thakur's claims of torture and mistreatment in his 1,036-page judgement.
