Increasing chances for rain ahead, with a few storms Friday
Thursday sees our stalled front that has been draped across the Virginia/North Carolina border the last couple of days begin to nudge its way back closer to the region, and that will attempt to throw a couple of more showers our way. Overall, it's a mostly dry day with only a scattered shower or two with highs in the low 70s.
Friday provides a better risk for scattered showers and thunderstorms as that front lifts north as a warm front. One or two strong thunderstorms will be possible along this warm front, though the dynamics at play are not as strong as recent severe weather episodes. That being said, a strong storm or two amidst scattered showers cannot be ruled out, though it's a low risk overall, with high temperatures in the mid 70s. The best chance for a storm or two will be in the middle afternoon. Showers will increase in coverage as a front approaches during the overnight hours, making for a wet stretch to begin the weekend.

Saturday begins on a wet note with a cold front crossing during the morning. Widespread showers are a good bet with clouds and an overall gross start to the day. However, the day will improve weather-wise with time and the late afternoon should be solid! It'll be cooler with highs in the mid 60s.
Sunday features plenty of sunshine with high temperatures rebounding to near 70 degrees with plenty of sun expected.
Monday sees high pressure still in control with plenty of sunshine expected and highs in the mid 70s in what is shaping up to be another gorgeous day.

Tuesday sees a front approaching late in the day, but we should remain dry before dark. We will warm up out ahead of the front, with highs jumping up into the mid to upper 70s.
Wednesday provides more chances for scattered showers and a rumble or two with highs in the low 70s.
Looking ahead in your extended forecast, there will be chances for rain Thursday and Friday with a series of systems. No particular day is a washout with plenty of dry time expected. We will dry out for Saturday! Highs will be above normal in the 70s.

Pinpoint Weather: Tropical Storm Chantal to bring some rain tomorrow
ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Tropical Storm Chantal will be moving inland and over the Carolinas during the next 24-36 hours which will influence our weather and increase rain chances for some tomorrow. Some areas of patchy fog will be possible tonight, mainly in the valleys west of the Blue Ridge. Low temperatures will range from the upper 50s to mid 60s. Tomorrow will begin to feel a bit more humid as dewpoints rise with high temperatures in the 80s. The morning will be dry as high clouds on the outskirts of Chantal stream in from the south. Into the afternoon, showers and a few storms will be possible with the outer bands moving in from the south along and east of the Blue Ridge into the Piedmont. Overall rainfall amounts will be modest with up to 1″ through Monday possible over far southeastern portions of our area. The heaviest will remain to the south over the Carolinas. Showers remain possible into the night as well for eastern areas. As what is left of Chantal moves away Monday, a frontal boundary from the northwest will approach and will likely stall out near or over the area. This will return the chance for daily showers and storms across the region through most of the week. Temperatures will remain warm and hot in the mid 80s to lower 90s. Round Rock 4th of July festival canceled due to rain; Fireworks still scheduled
ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) — The City of Round Rock has canceled some 4th of July festivities due to the rain. All activities at the Frontier Days Festival at Old Settlers Park have been canceled, except for the fireworks show, which is still expected to begin at dark. The Sertoma Independence Day Parade will take place rain or shine, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The city has also closed off-road parking lots, but parking on surface lots will remain available. How altitude affects fireworks in Colorado
(COLORADO) — Fireworks hit differently here in Colorado, literally, and that's because of the altitude we experience here. Colorado's high elevation means the air is less dense. That lower density gives fireworks less air resistance and drag, so when they're launched, they travel higher and faster before bursting, which is pretty cool to see! But there's a flip side. With less oxygen in our atmosphere, fireworks don't burn as hot. And that can actually make the colors appear less vibrant. So while the show is still beautiful, the reduced burn temperature can slightly mute those bold reds and greens. That said, there's an upside to the altitude: better visibility. Fireworks set off at higher elevations can be seen from farther away, which is great news if you're watching from a distance or can't make it to the main event.
