Yahoo29-04-2025
Universal Orlando's new theme park doesn't open until next month; however, you might be able to get a sneak peek before then. And no, you don't have to be a hotel guest or annual pass holder.
Epic Universe has expanded its park previews to include the general public, allowing anyone to explore the theme park before its May opening date.
Here's what to know about the previews and how long they will run.
Epic Universe officially opens to the public on Thursday, May 22, 2025, ahead of Memorial Day weekend.
It will be at Universal's new south campus, about 15 minutes down the road from Universal Orlando's Islands of Adventure, Universal Studios and Universal Orlando's CityWalk dining, retail and entertainment complex.
Yes, Universal is currently offering park previews to guests through Monday, May 19.
Originally, Universal Orlando announced that it has extended paid previews of Epic Universe for only on-site hotel guests, Annual Passholders and other select guests. As of April 29, the previews are now open to the general public.
They note that capacity is limited and not guaranteed. Tickets are on a first-come, first-served basis.
Ticket prices vary by guest type. Annual pass holders and Military Freedom Passholders are eligible for special rates.
For additional details, head to the resort's website.
Yes, you can.
Universal Orlando's website says pass holders and Military Freedom Passhholders change the date of their tickets via phone by calling (866) PASS-4-FUN (7277-4-386) or in-person at the front gate, Guest Services or Universal Vacation Planning Center desks.
It's important to note that not all attractions and experiences may be available during the preview.
Like the Team Member previews that preceded it, this is a technical rehearsal period that allows the park to fine-tune operations ahead of its grand opening.
Express Passes for Epic Universe's preview period will be available for purchase at the resort's Concierge/Guest Services kiosks inside the park.
The website notes the Universal Express Pass is subject to availability and does not guarantee admission and separate theme park admission is required.

Tina Fey Will Produce the 'John Proctor Is the Villain' Film Adaptation

The seven-time Tony-nominated Broadway play John Proctor Is the Villain is officially heading to the silver screen. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tina Fey and Marc Platt are set to produce the forthcoming Universal film, and the playwright Kimberly Belflower will write the screenplay. Sadie Sink, who received a nod for her performance, will serve as an executive producer. Here's everything we know so far about the project. (And if you haven't seen the play yet, it's currently running on Broadway until Aug. 31, 2025.) John Proctor Is the Villain takes place in rural Georgia, and follows a group of high school girls who are studying Arthur Miller's classic 1953 play The Crucible as they attempt to process feminism and the #MeToo movement. And at the end (spoiler alert!), two girls perform a choreographed dance to Lorde's Melodrama hit, 'Green Light.' In an interview with ELLE, Belflower spoke about the decision to end with the song. 'I knew from the start that the play should end with a dance sequence that doubles as an act of rebellion,' she said. 'This calls back to the girls in The Crucible dancing and casting spells in the woods, but it's also a way for the girls in my play to reclaim their own bodies, process their trauma, and cultivate joy in the face of a world that has never valued them and doesn't take care of them.' She went on to say that the sequence is akin to 'sleepover dances in your best friend's basement meets ancient witchcraft meets demonic possession.' Belflower continued, 'I never had to think about what the soundtrack of the play's ending should be. It was always 'Green Light.' These girls have walked the path of their pain, and it led them here: harnessing their hurt and turning it into magic, into art.' There's no confirmation yet on whether Lorde will be involved in the film adaptation. Cast details have yet to be announced. This story will be updated.

NYC airports face steep increase in flight cancellations this summer

These airports are definitely not ready for takeoff. Travelers are faced with a spike in flight cancellations this summer, compared to last year — and NYC's already unpopular airports are some of the worst offenders, new data showed. Flight tracker FlightAware crunched the numbers — and found that the cancellation rate is up about 29%, CBS News reported. Advertisement 5 Airports have reported a spike in flight cancellations compared to last year. REUTERS Between the week of Memorial Day and mid-July, the return-to-gate rate jumped from 1.4% in 2024 to 1.8% this year. That's despite nearly 256,000 fewer — about 18% — flights having been scheduled for this year's peak season, compared to last. Advertisement And of all the airports in the country, the less-than-holy trinity Big Apple flyers are forced to contend with are being called out as some of worst offenders. The much-ballyhooed 'new' LaGuardia Airport was the 5th worst, and perennially unpleasant John F. Kennedy International Airport was the 9th — while personnel-issue-plagued Newark Liberty International Airport came close behind at number 10. 5 New York City airports have some of the worst cancellation rates in the country. Markus Mainka – 5 Summer travel has been a hassle, especially at New York City airports. REUTERS Advertisement LaGuardia Airport has canceled about 5% of flights so far this summer — a 65% increase from last year. This has sunk its on-time performance rate down 6.1%. JFK Airport has canceled about 3% of flights this season — a 42% increase from 2024. Advertisement And over in New Jersey, Newark has cancelled about 3% of flights taking off this summer — a 28% jump from last year. The top three offenders were further south: Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Washington D.C., Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia. However, not all the airports in the country are scrambling. Some have actually decreased their cancellation rates compared to this time last summer. 5 Between the week of Memorial Day and mid-July, the cancellation rate jumped from 1.4% in 2024 to 1.8% this year. REUTERS 5 However, some airports have actually decreased their cancellation rates compared to this time last summer. AP Miami International Airport's cancellation rate has dropped 40% with on-time performance up 7.3%. Just up the road, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport has reported a cancellation rate that is 25% lower than last year, with on-time performance up 5.6%. Advertisement And if your flight isn't cancelled, but you have to drop out of the trip for another reason, you can just sell it to another lucky traveler. Nonrefundable vacations can leave thwarted trippers thousands out of pocket — and some are turning to increasingly popular online marketplaces to find someone to fill their seat. These sites allow sellers to post nonrefundable flights, room bookings or packages they can no longer use, and eager buyers can scoop them up — often at dramatic discounts, typically between 20% and 30% off the original price.
