MahaMetro Plans Feeder Bus Service From KP To Govt Offices

Time of India5 days ago
Nagpur: After its initial launch of feeder services from three Metro stations recently, MahaMetro is now planning to launch a dedicated feeder bus service from Kasturchand Park (KP) station for the convenience of visitors and the staff at several key govt offices in Civil Lines and Sadar.
The proposed feeder route, being developed in coordination with the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), is expected to serve important govt institutions including the police headquarters, CAG office, high court, chief minister's office, divisional commissioner's office, district court, Samaj Kalyan office, NMC's Civil Lines office, Van Bhavan, Govt Press, Vidhan Bhavan, and both central and state GST offices.
MahaMetro officials stated that the initiative aims to promote sustainable mobility, reduce dependence on personal vehicles, and increase Metro ridership by bridging the critical last-mile gap. The route is currently under review, and feedback collected during Metro Samwad outreach sessions will help shape the final service plan.
One such recent Metro Samwad was held at the state GST office, Civil Lines, where additional commissioner of state tax (Nagpur Zone) Tejrao Pacharne and joint commissioners Sanjay Kandhare and Rajendra Masram encouraged staff to consider using the Metro regularly.

The GST office is located around 1.8km from the nearest Metro station, highlighting the urgent need for seamless last-mile connectivity.
The officials emphasised the importance of holding similar interactions at other departments to understand commuter requirements better and ensure route efficiency.
The upcoming feeder service is not only expected to benefit thousands of govt employees but also citizens visiting these offices daily, making their Metro journeys smoother and more accessible. MahaMetro's move reinforces its broader mission to develop Nagpur as a model city for integrated, inclusive, and green urban transport.

India's gross GST collections rise by 7.5% YoY in July to Rs 1.96 lakh crore, refunds surge 66.8% to Rs 27,147 crore

Gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections rose 7.5 per cent year-on-year to Rs 1.96 lakh crore in July (for sales in June), data released by the government on Friday showed. Even though the pace of growth in gross GST collections picked up to 7.5 per cent in July from 6.2 per cent, this is the second consecutive month wherein the growth rate has been in single digits and much lower after posting double-digit growth in the first two months of the ongoing financial year. Net GST collections, after accounting for refunds, took a hit by growing by just 1.7 per cent to Rs 1.69 lakh crore in July as refunds jumped sharply by 66.8 per cent, the data showed. In the previous month, net GST collections had risen 3.3 per cent. Total refunds stood at Rs 27,147 crore in July, sharply up by 66.8 per cent YoY. While domestic refunds grew 117.6 per cent YoY to Rs 16,983 crore in July, refunds for imports were up 20 per cent to Rs 10,164 crore. In June, total refunds had risen 28.4 per cent to Rs 25,491 crore, with domestic refunds rising 14.1 per cent YoY to Rs 12,643 crore, while refunds on imports rose 46.4 per cent YoY to Rs 12,848 crore. The trend of slower growth was also visible in GST collections on the imports front as they increased sequentially but the pace of year-on-year growth slowed down in July. GST collections from imports rose 9.7 per cent year-on-year to Rs 52,712 crore in July as against 11.4 per cent growth seen in June at Rs 45,690 crore. The revenue collections were better on the domestic front, with GST collections rising 6.7 per cent to Rs 1.43 lakh crore in July, up from 4.6 per cent growth at Rs 1.39 lakh crore in the previous month. What experts are saying Experts said the muted growth in net revenue is mainly due to a pickup in GST refunds. MS Mani, Partner, Deloitte India, said, 'While GST revenues for the past few months have been on an upward trajectory, the muted increase of 1.7 per cent in the net GST collections for the month and 8.4 per cent during this year can be attributed to the increased refunds. During the month, domestic refunds have more than doubled compared to the same month last year and during the current year refunds have increased by 46 per cent. This increase in refunds augers well for businesses as it indicates stability in the online refund processes and quicker refund sanctions,' he said. Abhishek Jain, indirect tax head and partner, KPMG said, 'Higher refunds on domestic supplies could be from excess tax payments, inverted duty structures, and other adjustments. The increased refunds should aid cash flows for businesses.' State-wise GST collections in July State-wise data for July showed that out of 38 states/Union territories, 20 states/UTs recorded higher growth in gross GST collections than the national average of 7.5 per cent growth rate. In absolute terms, Maharashtra was at the top with collection of Rs 30,590 crore (6 per cent growth), followed by Karnataka with collection of Rs 13,967 crore (7 per cent growth), Gujarat with collection of Rs 11,358 crore (3 per cent growth), and Tamil Nadu with Rs 11,296 crore (8 per cent growth). States/UTs which recorded a contraction in GST collections in July included: Jammu & Kashmir at Rs 599 crore (-5 per cent), Chandigarh at Rs 221 crore (-5 per cent), Manipur at Rs 43 crore (-36 per cent), Mizoram at Rs 31 crore (-21 per cent) and Jharkhand at Rs 3,040 crore (-3 per cent). The gross Central GST (CGST) — the tax levied on intra-state supplies of goods and services by the Centre — collections stood at Rs 35,470 crore, State GST (SGST) — the tax levied on intra-state supplies of goods and services by the states — collections were Rs 44,059 crore, while Integrated GST (IGST) — the tax levied on all inter-state supplies of goods and services — collections stood at Rs 1.04 lakh crore and cess at Rs 12,670 crore during the month. Real estate, infra sectors short of 20 lakh skilled workers; increasingly difficult to provide affordable housing: NAREDCO chair Hiranandani

The real estate and infrastructure sectors are currently short of 20 lakh skilled workers — a gap that could widen to 50 lakh over the next five years, according to Niranjan Hiranandani, chairman of the Hiranandani Group. Speaking at an industry event on Friday, Hiranandani also flagged declining sales in the affordable housing segment, adding that high land costs around city centres must be addressed for developers to build such housing. 'In real estate and infrastructure, we are 20 lakh skilled workers short in India today… On one side we have unemployment, on the other side we have no skilled workers,' he said at a National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) gathering. Hiranandani is also NAREDCO's chairman. 'This is going to grow in the next five years because of real estate and infrastructure growth — the gap will go to 5 million skilled workers. This is (a) disaster because neither the private sector nor the government sector has been able to fulfill (the demand),' Hiranandani added. Earlier, in June, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) chairman S N Subrahmanyan had said the group's construction business is facing a shortage of 25,000-30,000 labourers. 'Affordable housing not possible due to high costs' While he remains bullish on the real estate sector, which he claimed grew by 10 per cent in 2024-25, Hiranandani flagged a dip in affordable housing sales. 'In the affordable housing segment, for the first time in my 45 years in real estate, sales have decreased by 15 per cent. I am talking about the whole country, not just Delhi and Mumbai. This is a big problem that is to be sorted out,' he said. Since 2020, the Indian real estate market has seen rapid premiumisation, with the share of supply priced below Rs 40 lakh shrinking across key cities and most new launches priced above Rs 80 lakh — driven largely by demand for luxury homes above Rs 1.5 crore. Hiranandani said while the PM Awas Yojana 2.0 will provide interest subsidy for 1 crore homes in urban areas, building affordable housing near city centres is difficult due to rising circle rates. 'How do you match rising land prices and giving affordable housing? It is not possible today with inflation in the cost of construction, the tax rates which are there, stamp duty rate, GST rate, local authority rates, etc. You cannot make affordable housing close to the city centre where employment opportunities exist,' he told The Indian Express, calling for the government and local authorities to intervene. 'No dip in pan-India housing sales' In India's top seven residential markets — Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Kolkata — overall sales dropped by 3.5 per cent year-on-year in 2024. In the first half of 2025, sales fell 24.3 per cent, according to data shared by property consultancy Anarock. Hiranandani said there has been no dip in pan-India housing sales. 'If you look at the national level, real housing growth has been more than 10 per cent (in 2024-25). On an annualised basis, it will go up by more than 15 per cent (this fiscal). So it will probably be one of the highest growth years ever,' he said. Aggam Walia is a Correspondent at The Indian Express, reporting on power, renewables, and mining. Telangana high court relief for NRSC in GST dispute

Hyderabad: The Telangana high court granted relief to the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) in a pending tax liability dispute. While directing the tax authorities not to take any coercive steps against the institution, a division bench of chief justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice P Sam Koshy directed the NRSC to deposit 10% of the assessed tax liability. NRSC, based in Hyderabad, works under the dept of space, govt of India, and is responsible for remote sensing satellite data acquisition and processing, among its many other vital operations. In its petition, NRSC requested the court to declare the tax order issued by the authorities as arbitrary, illegal, and in violation of constitutional rights. NRSC further urged the court to set aside the tax demand and suspend its implementation while the matter is under judicial consideration. During the hearing, counsels from all parties, including the Central govt and the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, reached a consensus to dispose of the matter in line with an earlier high court order in a similar matter. Accordingly, the court gave interim relief to the agency and allowed it to approach the relevant tribunal within three months from the date of its constitution. The high court further ordered that no coercive action be taken against the agency until the tribunal decides the second appeal and disposed of the matter.
