McCort ends district title drought in close win over Penns Manor
Timely second half turnovers fueled a few late baskets as the Crushers and Comets traded scores, but those ultimately helped McCort build a cushion and raise its first District 6 crown in seven seasons.
'I can't believe it,' said head coach John Hahn. 'I thought I'd be here last year. I thought I'd been here the year before. But, you know, there's there's good teams and I think Laurel Highlands gets us prepared for this, and Penns Manor, we watched them all year long because we assumed that's who was going to be here. And, for this feeling now, this just never gets old.'

Buffalo Bills S Cole Bishop claiming starting snaps early in training camp
After two days of training camp, the Buffalo Bills appear to have a decided pecking order at strong safety. In his second NFL season, Cole Bishop has taken the bulk of snaps at strong safety with the starting defense. Alongside Bishop, it's been Taylor Rapp in at starting free safety. Bishop struggled to acclimate to the position as a rookie during the 2024 season, partially due to a shoulder injury (scapular fracture) he suffered late last July. While Bishop did eventually recover and participate on defense in his rookie season, it was clear he had a lot of catching up to do. That injury opened the door for safety Damar Hamlin to claim the starting job next to Rapp. It was a move that Hamlin never relinquished last season, despite plenty of people anxious to see Bishop take his lumps. It was also a role that seemed too big for the rookie. When given a chance, Bishop struggled throughout the season, whether filling in for an injured Hamlin or perhaps most evident while trying to defend against Kansas City Chiefs wide receivers Xavier Worthy and JuJu Smith-Schuster during last season's AFC Championship Game. Still, Bishop ended his rookie campaign on a more positive note than it began simply because he was playing more, and gaining experience. All told, Bishop ended 2024 starting four of 16 games in which he suited up. He made 40 tackles (25 solo), one tackle for loss, two pass defenses, and one forced fumble (per Pro Football Reference). Most importantly, Bishop ended the season healthy enough not to be listed on the team's final injury reports. Due to such inconsistent efforts, plenty of questions remained about what head coach Sean McDermott and defensive coordinator Bobby Babich planned to do at safety heading into 2025. Could the team trust Bishop enough given his early injury history, struggles, and inability to supplant Hamlin? It would seem they've done just that in the early going, with Bishop continually playing with the ones. If he's able to limit the bad breaks in coverage and lapses in judgement observed to often last year, Bishop is a player with an athletic pedigree that stands out in the safety room. Now, he'll have to prove capable of doing all the other things important of his position: calling defensive coverages and communicating with the back seven units. It's a role that Hamlin excelled with in 2024, and one likely needed for anyone hoping to lay full claim to Buffalo's strong safety spot in 2025. 30 most important Bills players of 2025: No. 21 Cole Bishop
As the Buffalo Bills prepare for the 2025 NFL season, we'll take a look at the most important contributors on their roster. They have a ton of cornerstone players who will be returning for another shot at bringing a Lombardi Trophy to Buffalo, and they'll have help from some new additions as well. Leading up to the season, we will be counting down the top 30 most important players on the roster. We'll recap their 2024 season, look ahead to what they'll offer in 2025, and tackle the most pressing questions surrounding them this coming year. Next up on the countdown is Cole Bishop. Background Position: Safety Age at start of season: 22 Experience: Second year 2025 cap hit: $1,488,181 2024 recap Cole Bishop didn't have the start to his NFL career that he anticipated after being a second-round pick in 2024. He injured his shoulder early in last year's training camp and fell behind in terms of preparing for the season. Due to the setback, Damar Hamlin ran away with the starting safety spot alongside Taylor Rapp. Bishop ended up starting five games throughout the course of the year. He put some rookie mistakes on tape early on but he played well down the stretch. In the AFC title game, while filling in for an injured Rapp, Bishop led the team with 10 tackles. 2025 outlook Bishop is hoping to contribute as a full-time starter at safety in 2025. He and Rapp have been putting work in together since early in the offseason. Bishop was quoted as saying that he's feeling a lot more comfortable this offseason compared to last, and he'll enter training camp and preseason with hopes of proving he belongs as a starter in Sean McDermott and Bobby Babich's defense. Bishop and Rapp both offer a hybrid skillet which will help the coaching staff get creative in offering different looks to confuse opposing QBs. Biggest question: How will he fare as a full-time starter? Bishop only saw a handful of spot-starts in 2024 after drawing high praises from the coaches after being picked early in the draft. He did seem to learn from his early rookie mistakes and play well in huge spots for the Bills down the stretch. He is an aggressive playmaker on defense who is capable of covering pass catchers, tackling in space, and making plays downhill. The biggest question is whether he can do these things consistently without missing assignments.
