Hollywood's newest young star, Maia Kealoha, joins Stitch in studio to talk new remake 'Lilo & Stitch'
NEW YORK − Maia Kealoha is promoting her film debut, a starring role in Disney's live-action remake of 2002's animated hit "Lilo & Stitch." Sitting in the USA TODAY studio next to an animatronic Stitch, the actress recalls her audition process with a level of excitement you would expect from an 8-year-old.
"Do you want to know a fun fact?" the Hawaii native asks. "It was my first trip to Disneyland and that's where we got the callback for the chemistry reads. And it actually snowed, like real snow, in Disneyland."
Snow is rare in Anaheim, California. It's also rare for a young child to make her silver-screen debut in a major Disney movie. But in this instance, it was partly by design.

'I felt like some of her precociousness and her maturation over the course of the film really only made sense for a kid that was actually that young,' director Dean Fleischer Camp says. 'I always felt like we needed a real young kid for this, ideally one who hasn't become an actor and had their cuteness weaponized toward booking commercials.
"Maia was 5 when she sent her tape and we thought it was really promising. But then, when she walked into the room for her callback, it was very clear to all of us that she was the front-runner. Unlike a lot of the kids we saw, she was dragging her parents to these auditions and not the other way around."
Camp remembers how Kealoha was outgoing and "lit up the room when she walked in." She carries that same energy while talking about the film, her future and literally any other topic that comes up.
"Oh, my gosh, I would love to be in a movie with Jenna Ortega and Adam Sandler," she says when asked about actors she looks up to. She adds that Sandler "is a funny one" and cites "Happy Gilmore" as her favorite film of his.
In "Lilo & Stitch," Kealoha is a part of a cast that includes Hannah Waddingham, Zach Galifianakis and Billy Magnussen. Sydney Agudong plays her big sister/guardian Nani. Tia Carrere, who voiced Nani in the original, appears in the new film as the social worker Mrs. Kekoa. Chris Sanders reprises his role as the voice of Stitch.
"(Galifianakis) is really funny and creative and he just told me to keep going on with my dreams," Kealoha recalls. "Also, Sydney (Agudong) taught me how to be a great big sister now that I have a little brother. She's just a great role model."
Kealoha says it was "amazing" to watch the movie at the premiere and she hopes to act more.
"I would like to do my own TV show," she says confidently. "Maybe like an action movie or 'M3GAN 3' or maybe a 'Lilo & Stitch 2.' Bing, bang, boom, let's go!"
Kealoha laughs as she makes the "boom" noise and animatronic Stitch nods in approval. At least if Disney is looking to make a sequel, its stars are already on board.

Khloé Kardashian names every cosmetic procedure she's done: 'I know some great doctors'

When it comes to sharing her beauty regimen, Khloé Kardashian is taking a page from sister Kylie Jenner's digital book. The reality TV star and media mogul, 41, opened up about her history of cosmetic procedures in the comments section of a June 28 Instagram post. Following her recent appearance at Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez's Italy wedding, Kardashian received a shout-out from Dr. Jonny Betteridge, a London-based aesthetician, who praised her as the "standout face" from the celebrity nuptials. Betteridge, who said Kardashian's physical appearance has "changed a lot over the past few years" speculated that "The Kardashians" star's "transformation" likely included cosmetic procedures such as a "temporal brow lift," a rhinoplasty (nose job), lip filler, and a face and neck lift. "She looks dramatically different from a few years ago," Betteridge concluded. "And whether you see it as glow up or glam makeover, there's no denying she's created a bold new look for herself." The following day, Kardashian responded to Betteridge's assessment by confirming the cosmetic work she's had done in a detailed list, including the doctors and service providers who oversaw her procedures. "I take this as a great compliment!" she wrote. "In 2025 there are many other things we can do before surgery," Kardashian added. "But when it's time, and if I choose to, I know some great doctors 😉💞" What cosmetic work has Khloé Kardashian done? See the full list Khloé Kardashian's beauty candor follows Kylie Jenner's breast implant confession Earlier this month, Kardashian's younger sister got candid about her own cosmetic history. The Kylie Cosmetics founder, 27, revealed her exact breast implant order after a fan, social media influencer Rachel Leary, complimented Jenner's bust in a TikTok video published June 2. "445 cc, moderate profile, half under the muscle!!!!! silicone!!! garth fisher!!! hope this helps lol," Jenner wrote in the comments section. Kardashian previously opened up about her relationship with body image, including her explorations of plastic surgery, in the June 2021 reunion for "Keeping Up with the Kardashians." Kardashian revealed at the time that she'd had a nose job, as well as unspecified "injections." "When the show first started, I was very secure, very secure," Kardashian said. "Then, during the first couple seasons I became insecure because of the public opinions of myself. Then, I had a good run of being secure. Then, recently I've become now insecure again. So, I guess it just goes up and down." Contributing: Erin Jensen, USA TODAY

"At the beginning of the year, I lost a dear friend, cherished collaborator and mentor in Jeff Baena," Ryan shared. She noted that dealing with the loss of Baena has been "Very hard and heavy." Stephen A. Smith happy to get ‘well-earned relief' from one part of his ESPN responsibilities

With 'Inside the NBA' coming to ESPN, that means that Stephen A. Smith will be on fewer NBA broadcasts, something that will not only make a segment of viewers at home happy but also Smith himself. The well-known ESPN personality expressed excitement that the beloved TNT studio show will be joining ESPN through a licensing agreement struck with the NBA. Stephen A. Smith, NBA analyst for ESPN, looks on before the Boston Celtics play the Knicks in the playoffs. Getty Images That excitement stems not just from his enjoyment of the show, but for the chance to take a step back from some of his on-air appearances. ''Inside The NBA' is coming here and nobody can be happier for that than me,' Smith told Boardroom in an interview. 'Not just because those guys are great, but it gives me what I believe to be well-earned relief. It's been a long time. I've been covering the NBA for 30 years, so I'm going to get somewhat of a reprieve to some degree in that regard in terms of an inordinate amount of assignments that I've had in the past. So, I'm happy about that.' Smith was busy during ESPN's coverage of the NBA Finals and the NBA draft, and that's without even mentioning his number of projects and appearances away from NBA coverage and sports in general. The $100 million sports commentator is expected to play a bigger role in the network's NFL coverage as part of his new deal with the Disney-owned network, and in the interview with Boardroom, he expressed excitement over some vacation time that will help him recharge for the fall. NBAE via Getty Images 'I'll have a greater appreciation for it come NFL season when I'm back,' Smith said, speaking about his duties on 'First Take.' 'Because obviously I'll be fresh, refreshed, ready to roll, and I'll have an even greater appreciation then than I do of it now.'
