Liverpool owners FSG 'identify ideal LaLiga side to buy' - as Premier League champions look to develop multi-club model

Daily Mail17-06-2025
Liverpool 's owners FSG have reportedly identified their 'ideal club' to buy in LaLiga as they press ahead with developing a multi-club network.
The Premier League champions have had their eye on acquiring a second football team, with the pursuit among the reasons Michael Edwards returned as FSG's chief executive of football.
'It was vital for me that, if I did return, it had to be with renewed vigour and energy,' Edwards said last year.
'In practice, this means having fresh challenges and opportunities. As such, one of the biggest factors in my decision is the commitment to acquire and oversee an additional club, growing this area of their organisation.
'I believe that to remain competitive, investment and expansion of the current football portfolio is necessary.'
Edwards was placed in charge of overseeing the identification of a second club, alongside former Boston Red Sox chief Theo Epstein.
Reports earlier this year suggested FSG were pursuing a deal to buy Malaga, before cooling their interest amid legal hurdles.
According to Marca, FSG have now targeted buying LaLiga club Getafe.
The report claims FSG believe Getafe are the ideal club after conducting feasibility studies of several clubs, including Levante, Elche Espanyol, Valladolid, Malaga and Bordeaux.
Getafe's status as an established top flight club, the potential to develop players and the club's location in Madrid are reportedly among the factors in favour of the potential purchase.
The club are also in the middle of a stadium redevelopment, which will modernise and take their Estadio Coliseum ground to a 19,000 capacity.
Getafe's owner Angel Torres, however, has claimed he will leave the club when the stadium redevelopment is complete in December 2027.
Getafe have been a LaLiga club for the past eight seasons and finished 13th in the 2024-25 campaign.
Getafe are currently in the process of redeveloping their stadium to boost its capacity
The multi-club ownership model became widely popular due to the success of City Football Group, which has included 13 teams with Man City at the centre.
Several Premier League clubs have owners involved in multi-club networks, including Man United, Chelsea, Bournemouth, Brighton, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest.

Arsenal await bid for goalkeeper with six players available for transfer

Arsenal are open to selling a number of players after wrapping up the arrival of their sixth summer signing, Viktor Gyokeres Arsenal are open to offers for goalkeeper Karl Hein this summer and the Gunners are waiting to see if Sevilla formalise their interest in the 23-year-old. The Estonia international penned a new contract at the Emirates last summer before heading out on loan. ‌ But this time around, Arsenal are prioritising permanent bids for the young shot-stopper and want to push through a sale to avoid losing Hein on a free transfer in 2026. ‌ Sevilla are among those interested but they are short of cash and are keen to explore a loan swoop for Newcastle's Odysseas Vlachodimos instead. ‌ Arsenal have a strong relationship with their La Liga counterparts after loaning midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga to Sevilla last season. The move was deemed beneficial for the Belgian even though injuries halted his progress and if they had more funds available, they would have been open to signing the midfielder on a permanent deal. Crucially, Hein has already proven his worth in the Spanish top-flight after impressing on loan at Real Valladolid last season despite their relegation. Hein made 31 appearances in La Liga following a last-minute call to snub Charlton Athletic. A shoulder issue saw him sit out five games in March and April but he returned before the end of the campaign and has since missed Arsenal's pre-season tour of Asia with a thumb injury. It's understood he also has admirers from the Championship and Europe with a summer transfer firmly on the cards. Following the capture of Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres, the Gunners will ramp up their quest to raise cash through player sales. ‌ Reiss Nelson is admired by Fulham and could leave, Fabio Vieira and Oleksandr Zinchenko are also free to pursue an exit while Albert Sambi Lokonga is almost certain to depart. Arsenal would likely also consider bids for forward Gabriel Jesus amid interest from Flamengo but he is currently prioritising his return to fitness following knee surgery. Last year, Jesus' former club Palmeiras also made an approach that was rebuffed by Arsenal, it remains to be seen whether they return to the table. ‌ Despite his absence, Jesus remains appreciated by Mikel Arteta, who would still welcome having another forward option at his disposal as the 28-year-old can also play out wide or off the striker. Jakub Kiwior is poised to stay barring a drastic U-turn as Arteta is a firm admirer of the Pole, even if he'll remain second in command to Gabriel Magalhaes.

Morrisons selling GIANT sweet treat that's perfect match for the Lionesses' Euros Final

Morrisons is marking the Lionesses' Euros Final this Sunday with a giant sweet treat. The supermarket is selling a 10‑inch novelty football cookie for £7. 2 The Morrisons Giant Football Cookie is sold at Market Street stores. The large, chocolate-flavoured bake is made with milk, cocoa and wheat flour. It comes as England prepare to face Spain on Sunday in a rematch of the World Cup final two years ago, where Spain won 1-0. The cookie, spotted by shoppers in the Facebook group Snack News & Reviews, is billed as perfect for sharing at match-day gatherings as fans cheer on the Lionesses to bring it home. This isn't the first football cookie Morrisons has offered - the novelty treat tends to make a return around big football events. It comes after the supermarket faced criticism over its new delivery charge. Shoppers now face a £3 fee on orders under £40, up from the previous £25 minimum spend. The change, rolled out on July 14, has drawn concern from smaller households and elderly customers who often place smaller orders. The charge does not apply to customers with a paid delivery pass. Consumer advocate Martyn James said: 'Online deliveries became a lifeline for people over the pandemic. Iconic 80s retro sweet RETURNS to UK supermarket shelves after a decade 'But for millions of people they continue to be essential. "Introducing charges like this might seem small, but for people struggling to make ends meet, they really can have a huge impact. ' Online deliveries help people with disabilities, those working multiple jobs. older and more vulnerable people and families on a tight budget using online services to stay within very tight budget limits. 'These charges seem deeply unfair for those who need deliveries the most.' Morrisons said: 'We have recently introduced a £3 delivery fee supplement to customers who order a basket of £40 or under to be delivered to their home. 'This fee will not apply to our paid Delivery Pass Customers and even with the additional fee our prices remain competitive versus the rest of the market.' Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's all charge extra fees on delivery orders below their minimum basket values - £3 for under £40 at Asda, £5 for under £50 at Tesco and £7 for under £40 at Sainsbury's. 2
