ITV's 'most expensive flop in years' fronted by David Tennant facing the axe after getting fewer viewers than niche nature documentary
The show described as ITV's 'most expensive flop in years' is facing the axe after drawing in fewer viewers than a BBC documentary about pangolins. Hosted by David Tennant, The Genius Game is reported to have cost £2.5 million to make, but despite the huge investment, it had average viewership numbers of 661,000 after a promising start. This matched the viewership figures of BBC2's Pangolins: The World's Most Wanted Animal, which examines the plight of the endangered animals also known as scaly anteaters. An insider told The Sun: 'Publicly ITV maintains that no firm decision has been taken, but most execs and commissioners view it as a disaster. 'Not only did it occupy a primetime 9pm slot, it had a big-name host and was seen as a potential rival for BBC 's The Traitors. 'But of the five main channels on June 11, it was beaten by two and equalled by BBC2, thanks to those pangolins.' The Genius Game is intellect-based and sees contestants put their IQ to the test in never-before-seen games and manipulate each other for a cash prize, but many found it confusing and difficult to understand. While the show had a promising 1.5 million viewers when it first aired in April, by the second episode this number had plummeted to 846,000 viewers. To put this into context compared to other primetime TV shows, BBC1's Race Across The World attracted 4.2 million viewers at the same time. ITV has said: 'No decision has yet been made.' News of the show's uncertain future comes after its broadcast schedule was changed amid plummeting viewer numbers. When it first premiered, Genius Game was set to air on Wednesday and Thursday. But now, there was a change in the schedule and it was subsequently only broadcast on Wednesday evenings. Jeremy Clarkson's Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? celebrity specials were then moved into its Thursday slot for two weeks in May. The shake-up meant the show was spread out over seven weeks instead of four. It comes after many viewers during the first episode took issue with the new program and commented on how 'complicated' it seemed, with many not understanding the premise It comes after many viewers during the first episode took issue with the program and commented on how 'complicated' it seemed, with many not understanding the premise. Some took to social media to share their concerns and posted on X: 'Just starting this. Seems very complicated. I'll watch it out but not looking good tbh #GeniusGame.' One watcher turned off the show in just ten minutes and penned: 'Bye bye.' Others said: 'Sorry #GeniusGame it's a no from me, way too complicated for that time of night, I need mindless entertainment after a busy day, ITV should've just extended #CBBUK instead.' 'I'm struggling to understand. I'm clearly no genius, the rules on rules on rules are something else #GeniusGame.' The MailOnline has reached out to ITV for comment.

Videos of her performing in popular clubs to various Egyptian hit songs have garnered millions of views across various social media platforms. But an investigation was reportedly triggered by one of her most shared videos, where Linda performs in a cabaret in a traditional belly dancing costume. The Cairo prosecutor's office accuses the young woman of having "used seduction techniques and provocative dances to incite vice". According to authorities' report, in some videos Linda "deliberately wore provocative clothing and performed dance movements with sexual allusions" They say she therefore disrespected "public decency" and the "values of family and society". Investigators also argued the artist "appeared in indecent clothing, deliberately exposing sensitive areas of her body, in clear violation of social values". She denies all the charges against her and claims she practices her profession in compliance with the law. The dancer said after being arrested: "I have the permits to practice my activity and all the videos circulating on social media are normal. "It is a permitted dance performance and does not contain anything that violates or goes against public morals." Irish TD Paul Murphy detained in Egypt and passport confiscated after bus stopped amid March to Gaza She added that the content she records is "only for entertainment purposes". Whilst belly dancing isn't prohibited in Egypt, videos on social media have to comply with the country's values. Egypt has increased its cruel crackdowns on artists and influences accused of offending public morals. Under Abdel Fattah Al Sisi's government, at least five belly dancers have been horrifically jailed on charges similar to those given to Linda. The Pharaoh nation sucks in a staggering 18 million tourists each year, and the industry props up around 10 per cent of the whole economy. But beyond the plush resorts of the popular Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada - Egypt is covering up its dark underbelly. The country's brutal police force deals in bribes and locks people up on bogus charges, including Brit holidaymakers. Egypt's picture-postcard image is being tested, with a former British ambassador to the country recently branding it a "police state". 5 Videos of her performing in popular clubs to various Egyptian hit songs have garnered millions of views Credit: Instagram

Denise Richards' husband 'files for divorce' as huge monthly spend laid bare
Former the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Denise Richards has been married to Aaron Phypers for almost seven years and he's said to have filed for divorce this week Former the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Aaron Phypers has reportedly filed for divorce from Denise Richards this week. He's been married to the actor for more than six year but they are now said to have separated recently. Denise, 54 - who played 'Bond girl' Christmas Jones in the James Bond film the World Is Not Enough (1999) - began her relationship with Aaron, 52, back in 2017. The couple married the following year, months after their engagement. Aaron's now said to have filed for divorce in Los Angeles today, just two months before their seventh wedding anniversary. It's been reported that he has cited "irreconcilable differences" and lists July 4 as the date of their separation. TMZ reports that according to court documents, obtained by the outlet, he's seeking spousal support from Denise and reportedly has no income of his own. It adds that Aaron estimates that his wife is grossing over $250,000 a month - around £185,000 - from OnlyFans, TV, brand deals and appearances. It's also reported that in the filing he estimates that they spend $105,000 - around £77,000 - a month on average and that Denise has been covering it. Their monthly spending is said to include $20K on clothes and $15K on eating out, which is around £15,000 and £11,000 respectively. According to People magazine, which is also said to have seen court documents, Aaron has asked to keep their assets and debts as separate property. The request is said to include his power tools, a motorcycle and a sports car. Denise, whose acting credits include films like Wild Things (1998), was once married to fellow actor Charlie Sheen. Aaron has himself been married previously, with him the ex-husband of former Desperate Housewives star Nicollette Sheridan. Through her first marriage, Denise shares her eldest children Sami, 21, and Lola, 20, with her ex-husband Charlie. She's also a parent to Eloise, 14, whom she adopted after her divorce from the former Two and a Half Men star. Denise paid tribute to Aaron last year for their sixth wedding anniversary. She wrote on Instagram at the time: "Happy Anniversary babes! You're my forever and I love you so much. Thank you for always having my back & being the most supportive husband." Aaron also marked the occasion in September last year. He wrote: "Happy anniversary to my sweetest love! Thanks for always being there my beautiful wife! Love you!" Denise and Aaron have appeared together on TV in recent years. It includes on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, with Denise having been part of the main cast between 2019 and 2020, though she's also made guest appearances. They have more recently featured alongside her children on Denise Richards & Her Wild Things. The reality TV show about the family launched on Bravo earlier this year and the first series, which had eight episodes, concluded in April.
