The partnership began when the Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) of Botswana issued a tender for smart prepayment water meters featuring ultrasonic flowmeters. The result was a seamless integration of Conlog's iDM.Hydra with Diehl Metering's Hydrus ultrasonic meter; a combination specifically created to address Botswana's most pressing water challenges.

The deployment of 11,680 iDM.Hydra units in Mogoditshane has already proven the efficacy of this solution. These smart meters enable real-time monitoring, consumption control, and improved service delivery. For residents, this translates into accurate billing, reduced water loss, and the power to manage water usage through an easy-to-use prepaid vending platform. For utilities, it brings improved revenue collection, early leak detection, and a significant reduction in non-revenue water.
The iDM.Hydra's STS-compliant valve and Diehl's Hydrus ultrasonic meter works in tandem to deliver precise consumption data free from the noise of air or impurities that often distort readings in traditional meters. It's a smart system designed for demanding environments, offering reliable performance where mechanical meters typically fall short. The ultrasonic technology ensures measurements remain accurate regardless of water quality, while the integrated leak detection and tamper alerts drive efficiency and transparency throughout the water supply chain.
But while the technology is groundbreaking, it's the local enablement that makes this deployment exceptional.

Trade data illustrate a rerouting of US shipments via third countries, an issue Chinese officials have acknowledged. Three industry experts corroborated the assessment, including two executives at two US companies who told Reuters they had obtained restricted minerals from China in recent months. The US imported 3,834 metric tons of antimony oxides from Thailand and Mexico between December and April, US customs data show. That was more than almost the previous three years combined. Thailand and Mexico shot into the top three export markets for Chinese antimony this year, according to Chinese customs data through to May.

Alpine has unveiled its first 100% electric competition car. Built for one-make rally events and local competitions, the A290 Rallye differentiates itself from its road-going sister with key safety upgrades such as an FIA-compliant roll cage and Sabelt bucket seats. Though peak output remains unchanged at 164kW and 300Nm, the hatchback's e-motor now sends drive to the front wheels via a competition-spec ZF limited-slip differential. Alpine has also paired it with an updated gearbox and the electronic management system. Chassis tweaks include ALP Racing Suspension shock absorbers and 18" EVO Corse wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Sport A tyres. Controlled by Alpine Racing's bespoke ABS control unit, stopping power is provided by six-piston monoblock calipers and 350mm discs up front, while the rear gets single-pot calipers working on 280mm rotors. There's also a hydraulic handbrake to help initiate controlled slides and rotations during cornering. The new Alpine A290 Rallye is priced at €59,990 (R1,243,952 excluding VAT) and is set to make its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed from July 10 to 13.

Alpine appoint Nielsen to run F1 team day-to-day

Renault-owned Alpine appointed former sporting director Steve Nielsen on Friday to handle the day-to-day running of the Formula One team after the departure of principal Oliver Oakes. The Enstone-based team, effectively run by executive adviser and former principal Flavio Briatore who will continue to have overall charge, said Nielsen would start work as MD on September 1. Nielsen has most recently been working for Liberty Media-owned Formula One, after a brief period as sporting director at the governing FIA. He was also sporting director when Renault won championships in 2005 and 2006 under Briatore. Alpine, last in the constructors' championship but switching to Mercedes engines next year, also appointed Kris Midgley as head of aerodynamic development. Midgley previously worked at Ferrari as principal aerodynamicist and is also returning to the Enstone factory after a stint from 2007 to 2013. Oakes, the team's fifth boss in four turbulent seasons, resigned in May for personal reasons after being appointed in July last year.
