Calvert-Lewin: Everton pressure pushed me to my lowest point
Emotional weight of the badge
Dominic Calvert-Lewin's conversation on the High Performance Podcast offered more than insight into elite football. It revealed the raw underside of responsibility, mental pressure and what it means to wear the number nine shirt for Everton during its most turbulent era.
'People obviously forget that probably in Everton's history, the last 3 years, the points deductions, relegation battles, has been the toughest,' Calvert-Lewin said. His voice throughout the interview was not that of a player looking for sympathy, but one seeking understanding.
Pressure in isolation
The Everton striker described the emotional breaking point that occurred away from the pitch. 'That was a low point for me because I ended up crying. You know, I was on my own on my birthday crying on my bedroom floor.' That moment came weeks before he scored the goal that kept Everton in the Premier League.

He described that goal against Crystal Palace as 'just like a relief. Biggest relief ever.' But it was not just a professional reprieve; it was personal salvation. 'I put that responsibility on my shoulders, you know. I kind of like thought it's my responsibility to save everybody, save people's jobs.'
Misunderstood in the spotlight
One of the most compelling themes in the interview was Calvert-Lewin's regret at how some of his public moments were misunderstood. 'I phrased it in that talking saved my life… and I regretted it because talking changed my life,' he admitted, explaining how the media misinterpreted a deeply personal post.

This was not a cry for help, he emphasised. It was an effort to help others. 'I wanted to show emotion to help kids… help the next generation to know that I've been through a difficult journey and I've still come out on top.'
Footballer and human
The Everton striker repeatedly stressed that behind the professional façade was a human being dealing with layers of pressure. 'You know, he's got loads of money, drives whatever, plays in the Premier League, everything's great… but I also have problems.'

The mental toll of repeated injuries left him questioning everything. 'I started to make the wrong decision. I need to not be in my head. I need to be in my body and trust that my body knows what to do.'
Calvert-Lewin's conversation, shared candidly with podcast hosts Jake Humphrey and Damian Hughes, was a reminder of the unseen battle athletes face. 'I've never heard a stadium erupt like it in my life,' he said, recalling the aftermath of that goal. Yet, it was what came before — the tears, the pain, the isolation—that made the eruption mean something more.

Kerkez Sends Bournemouth Farewell Message After Liverpool Transfer Confirmed
Kerkez Signs for Liverpool as Bournemouth Star Makes £40 Million Switch New Chapter for Kerkez After Bournemouth Rise Liverpool have completed the signing of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth in a deal worth up to £40 million, making him the most expensive full-back in the club's history. The Hungarian international has signed a five-year deal, keeping him at Anfield until June 2030. Advertisement Kerkez's rise in English football has been rapid, and his development at Bournemouth has been rewarded with one of the most high-profile moves of the Premier League summer. At just 21, his composure, defensive maturity and attacking intent down the left flank caught the attention of Liverpool's recruitment department early in the 2024-25 campaign. This deal becomes the third major acquisition for Liverpool in this transfer window, following the arrivals of Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz. The investment underlines Arne Slot's intent to keep Liverpool competitive after winning the Premier League in his debut season. Photo: IMAGO Farewell Message Highlights Bournemouth Impact In a heartfelt message posted on Instagram, Kerkez paid tribute to his former club and the people who shaped his Premier League beginnings. 'I want to thank the whole AFC Bournemouth family for giving me the chance to come and play in the Premier League, the gaffer, everyone at coaching staff, everyone at the club, you guys will always be in my heart, especially the players, made friends for life,' he wrote. Advertisement 'We fought lot of battles together and gave everything for each other, love you guys. The fans always support us and I am forever thankful for the love. See you soon.' It was a note of genuine appreciation, reflecting a player who values the opportunity that Bournemouth gave him. Kerkez was one of the bright spots in Bournemouth's campaign, showing a blend of physicality and technical ability that made him stand out in matches against top-six opposition. Liverpool Move Signals Ambition For Liverpool, this is more than just depth in defence. Kerkez arrives to compete. With Andrew Robertson's injury record becoming more concerning in recent years, and Kostas Tsimikas potentially moving on, Slot needed a reliable and dynamic left-sided option. Kerkez fits the mould. Advertisement The £40 million fee includes potential add-ons, but the scale of the investment reveals Liverpool's belief in the player's long-term future. His attacking output, composure in possession and recovery pace offer a modern full-back profile that suits Slot's system. Photo IMAGO FIFA solidarity mechanisms will ensure that Hungarian clubs involved in Kerkez's youth development receive a portion of the transfer fee, recognising the role they played in shaping the player who now joins one of Europe's elite clubs. Pre-Season Preparation Begins Kerkez will report for Liverpool's pre-season on July 8, joining up with a squad aiming to build on last season's success. Their opening friendly comes just six days later against Preston North End, a fixture likely to offer the defender his first chance to pull on the red shirt. Advertisement At 21, the pressure and spotlight will increase, but Liverpool will hope that the grounding he received at Bournemouth will ease his transition. Slot's emphasis on tactical discipline and fluidity in wide areas should accelerate his integration. Kerkez's journey is only just beginning at Anfield, but his words and work at Bournemouth will not be forgotten.

Star winger WANTS to join Liverpool
If the right offer comes in for Diaz, it would not be a surprise to see him leave Liverpool for pastures new this summer. His departure would then open up a gap for Liverpool to fill on the wing as well. Even though there's Cody Gakpo and Florian Wirtz who could play in the left-wing position, adding another winger will be a priority for the Reds. Advertisement Wirtz plays his best football in the middle of the park and he will not be considered as a left-winger at Anfield. Gakpo will be the first choice option there, but the Reds will want to bring someone in who could compete for a starting role. And it seems like the perfect option might have made himself available to Liverpool. According to the editor-in-chief of LFC Transfer Room, Matt Thielen posting on his X account: 'Mohammed Kudus' agent has informed Liverpool that the player would be open to accepting a reduced salary should the club express interest in securing his services amid interest from Tottenham & Chelsea.' This sounds like Kudus would be open to accepting a move to Liverpool, and if that's the move the Reds make it will divide fans. Advertisement Last season, the Ghanaian registered just eight goal contributions in the Premier League and really struggled to make an impact for West Ham United. But that was largely down to West Ham's poor performances as well. Only five teams scored fewer goals than them in the Premier League, with three of those being the relegated sides and the other two being Manchester United and Everton. The season prior when things were going better for West Ham, Kudus registered 17 goal contributions. He's really quick and he's a very efficient dribbler. Out of players who played at least 2000 minutes in the Premier League, no one attempted more dribbles than Kudus (7.1 per 90). Advertisement And among those who played 2000 minutes and attempted at least six dribbles, only Noni Madueke (62%) had a better completion rate than Kudus (60%). So, Kudus not only attempts a lot of dribbles, he completes a high volume as well. His end product does need to improve but in a better team that would inevitably get better. On top of that, he is also capable of playing anywhere across the frontline and not just as a left-winger. He's played on the right for West Ham, and he's played in central roles for club and country as well.

Business may pick up for Manchester City after their Club World Cup exit
With Manchester City now out of the FIFA Club World Cup, Pep Guardiola's squad has six weeks before their opening Premier League fixture of the 25/26 season against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molinuex. But for now, the City hierarchy may have a busy period coming up. Players will have to depart City this summer. There will likely be a host of players who featured in the United States who will leave Manchester City. So it does seem that business is about to pick up at City as a host of players' futures are resolved in the coming weeks. Manchester City need to let players go in the coming weeks. Jack Gaughan has reported for the Daily Mail that Manchester City are set for talks with a host of players in the coming weeks. Gaughan reports that doubts surround the futures of Ilkay Gundogan, John Stones and Nathan Ake. Gundogan has attracted interest from Galatasaray as revealed by Esteemed Kompany sources in June. John Stones didn't play a minute at the Club World Cup and that casts doubt over his future at Manchester City. Nathan Ake's fitness issues could see him depart, and lastly, Gaughan reports that Mateo Kovacic has attracted interest from clubs across Europe despite being injured. It would also seemingly only be a matter of time before Jack Grealish, Kyle Walker, Kalvin Phillips and James McAtee leave Manchester City. Who leaves City could shape who they sign this summer. Now the process of letting players go will begin for Hugo Viana and Txiki Begiristain. Manchester City will not enter next season with a bloated squad. Pep Guardiola doesn't want to work with a big squad as he has stated repeatedly. It's obvious that Grealish, McAtee, Walker and Phillips will leave City. What isn't apparent is who will join them. There is a case for City to let Ilkay Gundogan and one of John Stones or Nathan Ake leave. Possibly not all three but at least two of those players could and should leave. The potential is also very real that Vitor Reis or Claudio Echeverri could depart City on loan. But outside of who leaves, if the right amount of players leave Manchester City it could shape who City sign for the remainder of this summer. Advertisement Pep Guardiola's squad is in desperate need of a right-back. It is the biggest need that must be addressed this summer. But it is hard to see City making another big signing before players leave the club. So time is of the essence and the quicker Manchester City can sell players the quicker they can move on to signing a right-back for example. But with Manchester City now out of the FIFA Club World Cup business is seemingly about to pick up at the Etihad. It simply has to so Pep Guardiola's squad can be trimmed ahead of the 25/26 season.
