Creators Of Deepfake Content With K-pop Group ILLIT Sentenced To Jail

Hype Malaysia12 hours ago
Deepfakes are a growing concern in the entertainment industry as many female stars find themselves victims of edited, explicit photos and videos. Thankfully, companies are taking action to address this issue and protect their artists.
Yesterday (30th June 2025, Monday), BELIFT LAB shared an update on the fan communication app Weverse regarding the legal cases involving the K-pop girl group ILLIT (아일릿). The group and the agency have been regularly filing lawsuits against individuals who have been sexually harassing the members. In some cases, the individuals have also been creating deepfake content of the girls and spreading them online.
However, in a recent update, BELIFT LAB revealed that some of the perpetrators have been referred to the prosecution and sentenced to prison. The agency wrote, 'The identities of the suspects and the details of the charges have already been confirmed, and they have been referred to the prosecution.' While the videos were allegedly distributed through anonymous platforms, the label was able to track the perpetrators through international judicial cooperation.
Moving forward, BELIFT LAB will continue to take action against sexual harassment of their artists, writing, 'There will be no settlements or leniency for acts such as spreading false information, defamation, or sexual harassment. We want to make it clear once again that we are taking all possible legal measures.' The agency also promised to continue taking action based on fan reports and internally gathered evidence.
Fans have reacted to the news, expressing relief that the perpetrators have received punishment. Some also expressed concern towards the ILLIT members, noting the stress of being sexually harassed. Others also hope for many more K-pop agencies to take similar action because deepfakes are a rampant issue in the industry and are affecting many female idols, including TWICE and BLACKPINK.
We're glad that BELIFT LAB is taking action towards these criminals, and we hope more agencies will do so as well to protect their stars. What are your thoughts on this?

He added these men sexualised Ain, the same behaviour she tried to stop by speaking up through her advocacy work. Ain Husniza, known for speaking out against a physical education teacher who allegedly made a rape joke in school, is a part of POP recently Ain, currently a student of International Politics at the University of Nottingham, believes sexual education is essential because it fosters knowledge of self-autonomy and protection against exploitation. The work I do vs The comments I received. 💔 — ain #MakeSchoolASaferPlace (@ainhsaifulnizam) Despite the naysayers, Ain encouraged others to support Pocket of Pink's advocacy work which combines art and comprehensive sex education to empower young people to learn about their bodies and autonomy. POP is also working on a Malay-language edition of the book. Ain received tons of support from netizens and was advised not to engage with the trolls. They encouraged her to continue her advocacy work. However, there are always the critics and victim blamers who felt Ain should cover up more. This led to others pointing out that girls and women face similar harassment regardless of how much she covers up. The issue of sexualising girls and women is a longstanding problem and the act is often justified by blaming victims for their clothes or what they did. However, reports have shown that girls and women are sexualised and harassed whether they dress conservatively or not. Not too long ago, influencer Mekyun managed to rally enough people to report the paedophile Facebook group featuring school children in their uniforms. While the group has since disappeared, none of the members have been arrested or charged. READ MORE: Sebab lawan arus. Lawan pedo. Lawan enabler. These are the ppl you're fighting. Was Keung To's fall into sea a cry for help for Hong Kong band Mirror?

Hong Kong Cantopop boy band Mirror is navigating a challenging landscape after its meteoric rise to fame a few years ago, with its members now forced to compete with all types of online entertainment and the local showbiz scene grappling with broader headwinds, market observers have said. They also said that, despite immense public expectations, the band's human vulnerabilities, paired with a local industry that distinctively lacks the rigorous pre-debut training like that of K-pop idols, created unique challenges.
