St. Charles man charged with possessing and disseminating child pornography, per officials

Chicago Tribune17-07-2025
A St. Charles man has been charged with possessing and disseminating child pornography, the Kane County State's Attorney's Office and Kane County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Thursday.
Corey J. McDonald, 29, of St. Charles was arrested at his residence on Monday, the news release said, following an investigation by the Kane County Child Exploitation Unit, an initiative the State's Attorney's Office and Kane County Sheriff's Office started in 2022 aiming to keep children in the state safe from sexual exploitation. This investigation began as a result of a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
State's Attorney Jamie Mosser is alleging that, in January, McDonald disseminated multiple images containing child sexual abuse material to a chat group on Kik, an instant messaging platform, the release said.
Mosser is also alleging that McDonald violated the Sex Offender Registration Act. According to Kane County court records, McDonald was convicted on child pornography-related charges in 2019. The complaint accuses McDonald of failing to notify the St. Charles Police Department that he was using the instant messaging identity, leading to the charge of violating the Sex Offender Registration Act.
McDonald is being charged with eight counts of possessing child pornography, eight counts of disseminating child pornography and two counts of violating the Sex Offender Registration Act, according to the news release.
He is being detained in the Kane County jail while he awaits his pretrial hearing, the release noted, with his next court appearance set for July 24.

Welland father of 4 jailed 9 months on child pornography charge

Child pornography could be all but eradicated if individuals stopped viewing the disturbing images online, a judge said before sending a Welland father of four to jail for nine months. 'If the people who access child pornography stopped accessing it tomorrow, there would be no market, and then there would be at a minimum a massive reduction in the victimization of children,' Judge Fergus ODonnell told Jordan Gauthier. Gauthier, 42, pleaded guilty Monday in Ontario Court of Justice in St. Catharines and was sentenced on a charge of possession of child pornography. The married man, who had no prior criminal record, came to the attention of Niagara Regional Police as a result of a joint investigation with Brantford Police Service into the sexual exploitation of children over an instant messaging app called Kik. Police used a search warrant at a Welland home in February and seized several devices capable of storing electronic data. Detectives analyzed the devices and uncovered a number of video files and images that met the legal definition of child pornography. 'I am very sorry for the situation I put me and my family through,' Gauthier told the judge. ODonnell said courts see victims of 'every type' on a daily basis. 'Some of them are powerful and robust and a lot of the damage to them, either economically or emotionally, is like water off a duck's back,' he told the offender. 'A lot are people in the middle, and others are more vulnerable than that. When you are dealing with children, that is the greatest level of vulnerability that we see.' He said many young children who are victims of sexual exploitation reach adulthood with significant emotional and mental health challenges. 'Emotional and mental health challenges lead to drug abuse, lead to criminality and they leave people damaged through no fault of their own. And, who have an enormously uphill battle to regain what should have been theirs all along but for the fact that people got into the market and wanted to see the images and went down that path.' In addition to custody, Gauthier was placed on probation for three years. His name will appear on the national sex offender registry for the next 20 years. Error! Dundee felon charged with distributing child porn, possessing gun

A 52-year-old felon living in Dundee Township has been charged with owning and distributing child porn, according to a news release from the Kane County state's attorney's and sheriff's offices. Jason P. Vanderflute, of the 33W000 block of Richardson Drive, will be detained at the Kane County jail pending his trial on three counts of dissemination of child pornography, 10 counts of possession of child pornography and one count each of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and unlawful possession of firearm ammunition by a felon, all felony charges. Prosecutors allege that Vanderflute owned and shared multiple child porn videos between May 16 and July 8, the date of his arrest, the release said. Police conducted a search of him home on a warrant and also found he was allegedly had a Taurus .357 Magnum revolver and Winchester brand .357 caliber rounds, which he was prohibited from having as a felon, the release said. The investigation was conducted by the Kane County Child Exploitation Unit. A judge granted the state's request that Vanderflute be held in jail while his case is pending. Transplant surgeon sent child porn images from WI children's hospital, feds say

Years of messages about sex acts with kids and child pornography images were traced back to a transplant surgeon at a Wisconsin hospital, federal officials said. The IP address of the Kik messaging account under investigation since 2023 was located at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Milwaukee, prosecutors said in a July 15 criminal complaint. Now, one of the hospital's transplant surgeons, 46-year-old Calvin Eriksen, is charged with distributing and possessing child pornography, the complaint said. The doctor is accused of sending child pornography through the Kik messaging app between January and April, the complaint said. 'The allegations in the criminal complaint are deeply disturbing. This doctor has been placed on leave, and his ability to see patients has been suspended while the investigation proceeds. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement,' a spokesperson for the hospital said in a statement. McClatchy News reached out to Eriksen's attorney but did not immediately receive a response. According to online profiles and federal agents, Eriksen worked at a children's hospital and performed transplants on people of all ages, including infants and kids, court documents said. In 2023, an undercover agent pretending to be a 29-year-old woman with an 8-year-old daughter in West Palm Beach, Florida, came into contact with Eriksen through Kik, federal officials said. Eriksen sent messages to the undercover agent in August 2023 asking to perform sex acts with her and her daughter, according to the criminal complaint. Days after the initial message, Eriksen, who was using a fake name, told the undercover agent that he had a 22-year-old daughter who he wanted to molest, but couldn't because his wife was a stay-at-home parent, prosecutors said. The man also discussed traveling to Florida to engage in sex acts with the woman and her child, according to the complaint. Communications between the undercover agent and Eriksen abruptly stopped in December 2023. In July 2024, the undercover agent came across the Kik user in another group, and he began to send her messages about sex acts with children again, according to federal officials. He sent the undercover agent photos showing him in medical scrubs, according to investigators. Eriksen also sent the agent nude images and asked that the images be shown to the child, prosecutors said. The messages stopped that same month because Eriksen's account was banned from Kik, the complaint said. Eriksen was arrested on July 15 but was released and ordered not to have contact with any children under the age of 18, according to court records. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 31.
