Prabhas' Salaar is the most-watched movie on Indian OTT, Korean content outperforms homegrown titles on Netflix
The most-watched title as far as series are concerned was MX Player's Aashram, followed by JioHotstar's Thukra Ke Mera Pyaar. Surprisingly, the Korean series When Life Gives You Tangerines took the third spot, meaning that it outperformed every Indian title on Netflix in March. The fourth spot was claimed by the evergreen favourite Stranger Things, which also outperformed every Indian title. Game of Thrones also found a spot, while MTV Roadies led the pack in the non-original series category.

The list is based on data compiled from metro, mini-metro, Tier 1, and Tier 2 cities, using metrics that measure time spent and engagement. India has the world's second-largest internet users, which is why it's high on the priority lists of international streamers. Netflix hasn't quite cracked the market yet, despite having had a presence in India since 2018. Thanks to the Indian Premier League, JioHotstar's subscriber rate reportedly grew to within touching distance of Netflix – 280 million, as compared to Netflix's 300 million-plus.
Discussing the viewing habits of Indian audiences in an interview with Indian Express, Monika Shergill, vice president – content, Netflix India, said, 'You have to tell them in a way that wows people — surprises or delights them. It should be worth their time. Today, sitting anywhere in the world they can experience any kind of content, in any language. Their benchmark for what's good storytelling has gone up. We have some catching up to do.'

Lutyens' Delhi To Get Sculpture District
New Delhi: New Delhi Municipal Council unveiled its cultural renaissance plan, beginning with the launch of a pilot project to transform the area from the Mandi House roundabout to the Copernicus Marg-Travancore House stretch till KG Marg into a sculpture art district. The stretches will showcase works by 15 distinguished artists, including Gujarat's Raghav Kaneria, Kerala's KS Radhakrishnan, Delhi's Ved Nair, Arun Pandit and Biman Bihari Das, and Jammu and Kashmir's Rajendra Tikku at selected spots with illumination, beautified surroundings and descriptive plaques in phase I. Works representing the legacies of the late Satish Gujral and Nagji Patel will also be present. The initiative aims to make notable artistic works accessible to the public, beyond the confines of museums and art galleries, said NDMC vice-chairman Kuljeet Chahal, who is working on the project from the beginning. "The initiative to promote art and culture in Lutyens' Delhi aligns with the Prime Minister's vision for Vikshit Bharat by 2047. The sculpture art district will span across key cultural landmarks, including Mandi House, National School of Drama, FICCI Auditorium, Shri Ram Centre, India Gate-National Gallery of Modern Art, Hyderabad House, Travancore Bhawan and Triveni Kala Sangam," he said. "Eight artists have given confirmation and large-scale sculptures, each ranging from 10-15 feet in height, will be installed," Chahal said. The sculptures will be made of bronze, stone or stainless steel with a lifespan of 100 years with limited maintenance. To ensure quality and contextual relevance, NDMC has formed an advisory committee under former NGMA chairman Harsh Vardhan Sharma. An art symposium will be held featuring both national and international sculptors, who will create artworks for a proposed sculpture park in Nehru Park. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now It will also have creations of pioneering sculptor Ramkinkar Baij. Fifteen distinguished sculptors, including five from abroad, will take part in it. "Many of them are recipients of Padma and other national awards," said Chahal. The projects are components of NDMC's broader strategy to establish Lutyens' Delhi as an artistic centre, comparable to renowned global art cities such as Yorkshire and London, with an allocation of Rs 40 crore, 1% of the civic body's total budget. Several embassies have also expressed their willingness to participate in these initiatives. A national painting symposium, inviting 15 eminent painters from across the country, will also be invited to participate in a creative residency. The resulting artworks will be showcased in a curated exhibition and later displayed at various NDMC venues to enhance public spaces with rich visual storytelling. A site will be identified at Khan Market to help younger artists display and sell their artworks. The recently renovated Srijan Open Art Gallery in Nehru Park, to be inaugurated in July, will let young artists or national awardees display their work. NDMC is also working to sign an MoU to organise music, dance and folk art, and puppet and theatre shows. "Many forms of art are confined to galleries or closed spaces and are inaccessible to the common man. This public art project will bring creativity into open spaces where people can see, experience and connect with it," said Chahal. "It will also inspire students and the younger generation to learn, engage and take pride in India's cultural wealth. These efforts will significantly boost cultural tourism and create opportunities for global cultural exchange. "

Delhi LG Vinai Kumar Saxena attends 'Umrao Jaan' screening, says it's a
New Delhi [India], July 2 (ANI): Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Vinai Kumar Saxena, hailed the Rekha starrer 'Umrao Jaan' after watching its remastered version in theatres on Tuesday. Delhi's LG Vinai Kumar Saxena attended the special screening of 'Umrao Jaan' along with its director Muzaffar Ali in Delhi. He was welcomed by the director at the screening of the remastered version of the film. Before watching the movie, Delhi's LG addressed the viewers and said that he has watched Umrao Jaan countless times due to its direction, story, songs and lyrics. Vinai Kumar Saxena praised Umrao Jaan after the screening, calling it a 'unique' film which is difficult for filmmakers to make in today's time. 'Umrao Jaan, which was made 44 years ago by Muzaffar Ali, has become such a unique film that it is very difficult to make it in today's time. This is the film in which every character has played a role. Music, lyrics, direction, everything is unique in this film,' said Vinai Kumar Saxena. LG also labelled 'Umrao Jaan' as a career breakthrough film of Rekha. He said, 'If I say this, it won't be wrong to say that Rekha became Rekha from this film. If it weren't for this film, Rekha wouldn't have been Rekha. I am sure that this film will become a milestone in the future, which will be remembered forever in the Mumbai film industry.' Rekha won the National Award for her impeccable performance in the film as a courtesan-poetess in 19th-century Lucknow. Her graceful dance performance on 'Dil Cheez Kya Hai' is still admired and remembered by filmophiles. On the sidelines of the event, director Muzaffar Ali called 'Umrao Jaan' 'timeless' and 'ageless'. While talking to ANI, he said, 'I think the movie is timeless, it's ageless, it was meant for a time 150 years ago. So, it was meant to be a period film, and it has been true to the period. It is still vibrant and alive as that period would have been. So, that way, the film is, for me, full of nostalgia, full of memories, details and hard work.' Director Ali also shared that he is willing to take the Umrao Jaan to the festivals and OTT platforms. 'I think we'll take it to a festival route and then it will come to the OTT,' said Muzaffar Ali. 'Umrao Jaan' is a classic Indian period drama that has been adapted into two film versions. The 1981 version, starring Rekha, is a cult classic and won four National Awards. The 2006 version, starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, was not well received by the audience. Both films are based on Mirza Hadi Ruswa's novel Umrao Jaan Ada. It was re-released in theatres on June 27.
