Asian Stock Markets Update: Taiwan up 0.74%, Hang Seng down 1.18%, Shanghai down 0.13%, Nikkei down 0.08%

By Aditya Bhagchandani Published on July 3, 2025, 08:47 IST Asian markets traded mixed in early hours on Thursday, July 3, with cautious optimism seen in select indices. Investors continued to monitor U.S. economic signals and upcoming trade policy deadlines. Early Gift Nifty indications suggested a flat to mildly positive start for the Indian market, with the index pointing about 29 points higher at 8:25 AM. This followed a slightly down finish in the previous session as investors weighed weak Chinese services data and U.S. policy signals. Regionally, Shenzhen rose 0.36%, Kospi gained 0.82%, and Taiwan advanced 0.74%, reflecting modest gains. Meanwhile, Nikkei edged down 0.08%, Hang Seng slipped 1.18%, and Shanghai was down 0.13%, highlighting the uneven sentiment. Markets are bracing for the crucial U.S. Non-Farm Payrolls data due later today, which could influence Federal Reserve policy expectations. The July 9 deadline for potential U.S. tariffs also looms over global trade outlook. After Wednesday's muted session, Indian equities are expected to open cautiously optimistic today, tracking global cues and corporate updates like Nykaa's share sale and solid Q1 earnings projections. Stock Market cues for 3rd July: GIFT Nifty flat, US markets hit record close, Microsoft layoffs continue

By Aditya Bhagchandani Published on July 3, 2025, 08:39 IST Markets look set for a muted start on Thursday, with GIFT Nifty trading flat and signaling little momentum for Indian equities. US futures edged slightly higher overnight as optimism grew after the US and Vietnam struck a trade deal. Wall Street ended largely higher, with the S&P 500 posting a record close despite lingering concerns over tariffs and the job market. President Donald Trump announced that the US had reached a trade agreement with Vietnam but would still impose a 20% tariff on its imports, adding to global trade tensions. The US job market showed fresh signs of stress. According to ADP, the private sector lost 33,000 jobs in June, far below expectations of a 100,000 increase. Layoffs continued across sectors, and hiring momentum slowed. Microsoft announced plans to cut another 9,000 jobs in a second wave of major layoffs, adding to concerns over the labor market's resilience. Overall, global cues remain mixed as markets weigh strong US stock performance against soft employment data and tariff risks. Alembic Pharma acquires UK-based Utility Therapeutics for $12 million to expand US presence

Alembic Pharmaceuticals Inc., the wholly owned US subsidiary of Alembic Pharmaceuticals Limited, has announced the acquisition of UK-based Utility Therapeutics Ltd. This strategic move marks Alembic's entry into the branded anti-infective segment in the United States, particularly focusing on treatments for urinary tract infections (UTIs). Utility Therapeutics is engaged in developing pharmaceutical products aimed at combating UTIs, a widespread medical condition in the US. The acquisition brings two key assets into Alembic's fold — 'Pivya,' an FDA-approved treatment for uncomplicated UTIs, and 'MEC,' a pipeline product currently under development to address complicated UTI cases. Alembic Pharmaceuticals sees this acquisition as a significant step towards strengthening its presence in the US market with branded specialty products. The deal allows Alembic to market Utility's assets in the US, leveraging the regulatory approvals already in place and continuing the development of promising pipeline therapies. The total consideration for the acquisition is expected to be around $12 million, paid in a staggered manner depending on the achievement of specific milestones. It also includes a provision for profit sharing based on future earnings generated by Utility's products. The transaction does not fall under the related party category, and none of the promoters or group companies have any financial interest in the deal. Completion of the acquisition is anticipated within approximately 30 days, and no additional regulatory approvals are required. This acquisition aligns with Alembic's strategy of expanding its global footprint and diversifying its product offerings in regulated markets like the US.
