Dating for professionals: expert advice

Telegraph17-06-2025
If you're a busy professional it can be difficult to make time for your friends, family and hobbies – let alone the dating scene. Maintaining a successful career often goes hand-in-hand with long hours, travel, and taking your work home at the end of the day. With all that to contend with, the prospect of finding love might seem unlikely.
Here's the good news – modern dating is a lot simpler than it used to be. Back in the day, we may have relied on meeting other single people at social occasions or getting our friends to set us up on blind dates. This could sometimes feel like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Today, the popularity of online dating sites has made dating for professionals a much more convenient process. With so many people logging on to find love, you can now find lots of working singles at the touch of a button. Here's how to join them.
1. Sign up to a dating site for professionals
The best place to start your search for romance is the internet. Today, online dating is ubiquitous. Approximately 10 per cent of heterosexual people met their long-term partner online, according to Pew Research Center.
The key to getting online dating right is to choose a site or app that is tailored to your needs, rather than downloading the first one you come across.
Sites and apps that offer online dating for professionals can be tailored towards numerous factors. Some focus on education or political views, while others are devoted to facilitating long-term relationships to help you find your soulmate. The best dating websites for professional singles are designed to make your life easier.
On Telegraph Dating, the hard work is done for you via a two-way matching system. The criteria you've listed on your profile is used to search for potential partners, displaying them on your 'My Ideal Match' page if their criteria matches your personality and background. While the service is available to anyone over 18, many members have found this a helpful dating site for professionals over 50.
2. Create the perfect profile
Your online dating profile shouldn't be something you dash off while you're taking your tea break. Wait until you have a free evening or weekend and really get stuck in. List your interests, describe your lifestyle, and – most importantly – be realistic about what you're looking for and what you can offer.
Whether you're an ambitious go-getter seeking something casual and fun, or a busy CEO looking to make more time for a serious relationship, be upfront and honest. The same goes for any personality tests or questionnaires that you end up filling out.
Photo-wise, always aim to use something taken recently where your face is clearly displayed (preferably a solo rather than a group shot). If you can't find a good photo, enlist a trusted friend to come round and take some flattering shots.
3. Make time for your profile every day
Once you've set up your online dating profile don't let it gather dust. If you're serious about meeting someone you'll want to visit your account at least once a day, using your free time to check out your suggested matches, browse other members' profiles, reply to messages, and initiate conversations.
The good news is that you can easily fit this task around your work commitments – the odd five or 10 minutes here and there at lunch, on your commute, or at home in front of the TV will do
4. Look for someone with a compatible lifestyle
When you're checking out other profiles, consider how well your two lives might mesh. Even if you're using a service that suggests potential matches, you'll want to be judicious about who you end up messaging.
Let's say a suggested profile ticks every box when it comes to looks, interests and sense of humour – but their working hours or family commitments would limit the time you have together as a couple. In this instance, initiating a conversation could be a waste of time.
5. Don't rush in
There's no harm in choosing your matches carefully. As a busy professional, time is precious, so you don't want to find yourself sitting through too many fruitless dates.
Make sure you read someone's profile thoroughly before you agree to meet in person. There may be information towards the end of their profile that rules them out as a potential partner. Finding out that information on a first date is a waste of your time and theirs. Being selective is not the same as being fussy.
6. If online dating doesn't work out, try a professional matchmaker or dating agency
Online dating is highly popular among modern professionals – but it doesn't work for everyone. The good news is that there's another service that won't encroach on your working life: a professional dating agency.
Professional matchmaking has come a long way since its early days. Typically these services offer an initial consultation, after which your matchmaker begins the process of looking for matches and setting up dates. Often these services offer one-on-one coaching, with your personal matchmaker on hand to chat and give advice before dates.
High net worth individuals often use matchmaking services as an efficient and discreet way to seek romance. As the consultation process is so rigorous, the associated rates can be costly. However, it can be an ideal option for those with money to spend.
7. Commit to proper dates
Whether you've been set up via a matchmaker, or you've found someone special on a dating app, the next step is meeting in real life. As a professional with a busy schedule you might find it difficult to make time for dates, but it's vital that you do.
Plan ahead and make sure you set aside an afternoon or evening with no work commitments. Gaps in your diary may be scarce, but there's no point putting yourself out there if you're not willing to invest some of your free time.
When you're on a date, make sure you don't check your phone every 10 seconds. Put it on silent, stick it in your pocket, and don't take it out again until you've parted ways (or at least until they've popped to the loo). Work emails can wait!
8. Make the most of the smaller moments
When one or both people in a relationship are busy at work it can be hard to coordinate schedules. You should continue to make time for proper dates, planning ahead to make sure you have free evenings and weekends whenever possible.
If things go well and you develop a relationship, remember that a little compromise will be needed. If you want to successfully juggle career commitments and home life you'll need to work together.
It's important that you try to enjoy the little moments. If you're both booked solid for a week, try to snatch short periods of time to spend together – whether it's enjoying a short coffee break on a Saturday morning, or getting together for a quick lunch in the week.
Quality time doesn't have to mean spending hours together, especially when you're both career-oriented. If you are both hard-working and ambitious, you may see eye to eye.

REVEALED: Why fast-food heiress who survived two abductions sold her mansion at a loss

It was curious why the billionaire heiress to the In-N-Out fast food fortune sold her massive California estate for a loss. Lynsi Snyder, CEO and president of the burger chain, first listed the seven bedroom, 16 bathroom mansion — a gated, ultra-private 4-acre estate with a golf course, home theater, and its own vineyard — for $16.3 million in March 2021. She purchased it for $17.4 million in 2012 from former LA dodgers player Adrián Beltré. There's a reason Snyder took a $900,000 hit. Snyder revealed that she is relocating her family from California to Tennessee, since the popular burger chain has started an eastern expansion. 'There's a lot of great things about California, but raising a family is not easy here,' Snyder shared on Allie Beth Stuckey's 'Relatable' podcast. 'Doing business is not easy here. We're building an office in Franklin, so I'm actually moving out there.' Snyder, who has served as the company's president since 2010, revealed there will be a new office in Franklin, Tenn., located just south of Nashville. 'It will be wonderful having an office out there, growing out there and being able to have the family and other people's families out there,' she said. The company is planning to open its first Tennessee restaurants by 2026. Snyder hinted that In-N-Out could expand into other places on the East coast. As for the house she sold, it's spectacular. The main residence has 11 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms, spread over multiple wings. A grand circular driveway sits outside the front door and a massive portico sits at the entrance. A dual staircase sits in the foyer with a massive chandelier hanging from the ceiling. There's a chef's kitchen with double islands, high-end appliances, and walk-in pantries. There's also a temperature-controlled wine cellar and tasting room. The home also has a theater, a game room with a wet bar, a fully equipped fitness studio, and a built-in hair salon in the primary suite. A separate 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom guest house with its own garage is ideal for visitors. Snyder, current CEO and president of the burger chain, had also built a 3,400 square-foot recreation building with another gym and a batting cage. Outside sits an infinity pool with a cabana, an outdoor kitchen, multiple dining areas, a firepit, a two-hole golf course, sand traps, a putting green, tennis and basketball courts, and a vineyard with fruit trees. The home provides so many amenities, it's like you never have to leave – and Snyder rarely did. She's been called one of the most private billionaires in the US and withdrew from public life early after she survived two kidnapping attempts as a child from criminals trying to extort her family for millions. The reclusive heiress is the only child of Lynda and H. Guy Snyder and the only grandchild of Harry and Esther Snyder, who founded In-N-Out in 1948. A massive soaking tub sits in the bathroom off the primary bedroom Snyder, who has been married 4 times and has 4 children, had purposefully remained hidden for years until 2013, when she was ranked a billionaire for the first time by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. In 2014, Snyder talked about the kidnapping attempts, telling Orange Coast magazine that the first attempt took place when she was only 17-years-old and still in high school — just months before her father died from an accidental drug overdose. The second took place when she started working in the family business full time at age 24 — the same year that her grandmother Esther died after taking over the company following her son's death. Snyder, 43, escaped the second kidnapping attempt by running across an expressway near the In-N-Out headquarters in Baldwin Park, California. She said that she was able to sense something off about the men because 'they had a van with boarded-up windows.' Her rise to CEO of In-N-Out began when she was a teenager. Snyder grew up in Northern California where her father had a ranch. She she was hired at a new In-N-Out spot in Redding, CA, where she washed lettuce and sliced onions after school and on weekends. Only the store manager knew of her family ties. The home has a game room with a wet bar and a pool table for guests to enjoy The massive primary suite in the main residence was used by Snyder When Snyder was 11 years old, her uncle Rich Snyder was on board a private jet in 1993 when it crashed near Los Angeles. After he died, the company was then handed to Snyder's father, who died of a drug overdose six years later. Her grandmother was then given control of the company until she died in 2006, at which point Snyder was 27 and called to take over. Her first husband was Jeremiah Seawell, her high school sweetheart, and they married when she was only 18. The marriage only lasted two years, but by the time she was 25 she remarried Richard Martinez, a man who was working at In-N-Out at the time. They had twins before their marriage ended in 2011 and she went on to marry race driver Val Torres Jr a few months later that same year and had another baby. In 2014, Snyder married Sean Ellingson (July 7, 2014 – present): In May 2014, Snyder became engaged to Sean Ellingson and she gave birth to their son, her fourth child, later that same year. Snyder is deeply involved with a Christian charity called Healing Hearts and Nations and still works with the group. Her kids attend private Christian schools, but she keeps their lives private out of fear that they too could become targets of kidnapping plots. An ariel view of the California estate Snyder just sold at a nearly $1 million loss Snyder, whose current net worth according to Fortune is $7.3 billion, did give a rare interview in April, describing how she leads the fast food chain. 'I'm a pretty tough person,' she told the 'How Leaders Lead' podcast. 'Now not going to say that I don't get surprised at times … there's been a fair share of betrayal and stuff like that, but I'm not going to let the few people that screw me over change the positive and connected close relationships I could have with all the good ones. 'Because there are some that will take advantage or hurt me, I'm not going to make everyone else miss out on what we could have.' She's been told by colleagues who worked with her family members that her leadership style is a lot like her father and uncle.

Shaquille O'Neal offers brutal verdict on Klay Thompson's relationship with Megan Thee Stallion

Klay Thompson and Megan Thee Stallion are very happily dating - though Shaquille O'Neal doesn't see the couple lasting very long at all. The pair made their red carpet debut last week as they attended the Pete & Thomas Foundation Gala in New York City. Megan even told told Page Six that she had 'never dated somebody so kind,' and the couple looked to be smitten with one another as they shared a kiss on the red carpet. However, NBA legend O'Neal isn't convinced. The topic of the relationship was brought up on his 'Big Podcast' with Adam Lefkoe and guest Mike Tyson, and the Lakers icon predicted the couple wouldn't even make it to the end of the summer.. 'Six weeks. The line is six weeks,' he said, referencing a fictional betting line. Mike Tyson has no idea who Klay Thompson is 😂😂😂 (🎥 @bigpodwithshaq / — NBACentral (@TheDunkCentral) July 21, 2025 That possibility didn't seem likely as the couple attended the gala together on Wednesday, as Megan clutched her NBA beau's hand as they made their entrance into the event. 'This is my first relationship where I've ever been with somebody who's genuinely a nice person, and he makes me genuinely happy,' she told Page Six from the event. 'I just never dated somebody like him before and I'm just grateful that he's here by my side and he feels the same way about me.' Fans first speculated that the couple were an item when Thompson was seen in the background on a sun lounger in photos that the rapper had posted of herself while on vacation. They've since 'hard-launched' their relationship on social media, as Thompson posted a photo of them kissing on vacation, while Megan later shared a video of the pair working out together. Their romance comes just three months after Megan's relationship with another basketball player, Boston Celtics small forward Torrey Craig, seemingly came to an end. Over the years, the 30-year-old has been romantically linked with a number of high-profile names, including Chelsea soccer star Romelu Lukaku. The Mavericks star and rapper shared a kiss on the red carpet at a gala last week She also previously dated fellow rappers Tory Lanez — who is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence after shooting her in the foot nearly five years ago — and Moneybagg Yo, as well as songwriter Pardison 'Pardi' Fontaine. In August of last year, the musician confirmed she was dating Craig after accidentally sharing a video of them together on TikTok. She posted a clip of her and Craig, who was playing for the Chicago Bulls at the time, carrying out a couple's challenge while laying in bed together. Thompson previously dated actress Laura Harrier from 2018 to 2020. From 2021 to 2023, he had been linked with singer Coco Jones (though there is little public evidence of their relationship). Jones recently got engaged to Cavs star Donovan Mitchell. Thompson, recently wrapped up his debut season with the Mavs after ending his 13-year stay with the Warriors last year.
