Blue Jays sweep Angels, win eighth in a row
The Blue Jays swept the three-game series to extend their season-best winning streak to eight games.
Mike Trout hit a solo home run for the Angels, who stranded 12 runners. Taylor Ward added three hits, a walk, an RBI and a stolen base.
Trout homered to right against Gausman on a fastball with two outs in the first.
The Angels loaded the bases in the fourth on a single, a walk and an error before Gustavo Campero bounced back to Gausman to start an inning-ending, home-to-first double play.
Bichette atoned for his error in the top of the inning by driving an 0-1 changeup from Tyler Anderson (2-6) off the facing of the second deck for a home run to lead off the home fourth. Toronto added a run in the inning when Myles Straw doubled and scored on Joey Loperfido's single to right. Loperfido was thrown out after rounding first base.
The Angels tied the game in the fifth. Chad Stevens led off with a single, Trout walked with two outs and Ward hit an RBI single to right.
Ryan Burr (1-0), activated from the injured list Sunday, replaced Gausman with a runner at first and two outs in the sixth. He gave up a single before getting Nolan Schanuel to fly out. Gausman allowed two runs, seven hits and three walks.
Bichette led off the home sixth with a walk and took third on Alejandro Kirk's flare single to left. Davis Schneider hit an RBI single to left for Toronto's go-ahead run.
Brock Burke replaced Anderson, who allowed three runs, eight hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Burke ended the threat with a double-play grounder and a groundout.
Burr pitched around a walk and a stolen base with three strikeouts in the seventh.
Toronto closer Jeff Hoffman pitched a perfect ninth with the help of two line-drive outs to earn his 22nd save.

Padres star Manny Machado collects 2,000th career hit
July 8 - San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado led off the fourth inning of Monday night's game against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks with a single for his 2,000th career hit. Machado slashed an 0-1 knuckle-curve from Zac Gallen into the hole between third and short. Geraldo Perdomo dove to his right but the ball deflected off his glove into short left field as Machado jogged to first while the crowd roared. It was the second hit of the game for Machado, who singled to left in the first. Machado, who became the 298th player in MLB history to reach 2,000 hits, is batting .292 for the year and will start the All-Star Game for the National League. Machado has spent the bulk of his career with the Baltimore Orioles (2012-18) and Padres (2019-25), with a brief stint as a Los Angeles Dodgers in the second half of 2018. Guardians snap 10-game skid in win at Astros
July 8 - Brayan Rocchio lined a go-ahead, two-run double into the left field corner with two outs in the top of the sixth inning, and a quartet of relievers protected the lead as the visiting Cleveland Guardians snapped a 10-game losing skid with a 7-5 victory over the red-hot Houston Astros on Monday. After producing sacrifice bunts in his first two plate appearances, Rocchio snapped a 4-all tie by drilling an 0-2 slider from Astros reliever Steven Okert over the outstretched glove of Houston third baseman Isaac Paredes. Angel Martinez and Bo Naylor, who greeted Okert with a four-pitch walk, scored and provided the Guardians a 6-4 advantage. The Astros, who rallied from a four-run deficit by scoring four runs on two homers in the bottom of the fifth, sliced the Guardians' two-run margin in half when Victor Caratini socked a solo homer to right field with two outs in the sixth off Guardians reliever Matt Festa (2-2). Festa limited the damage to a lone run. Right-handers Paul Sewald and Hunter Gaddis followed by working a perfect inning of relief each before Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase retired the Astros in order in the ninth for his 19th save. David Fry added an insurance homer in the top of the ninth. The Astros entered the series with the best home record in the American League (32-14) and with 10 wins in their last 11 games at Daikin Park. Their four-run rally in the fifth appeared to set the stage for more homefield magic before Cleveland snapped its longest skid in 13 years. The Guardians grabbed a 4-0 lead off Astros starter Colton Gordon (3-2) starting when Steven Kwan recorded an RBI single off a line drive that grazed Gordon in the head. Will Wilson scored on the play, and Gordon remained in the game despite the scare. Two batters later, Jose Ramirez scorched a 1-1 sweeper from Gordon on a line to left, his 15th homer plating Kwan and Naylor. Guardians right-hander Tanner Bibee cruised into the fifth having faced just one batter above the minimum. The wheels quickly came off, with Taylor Trammell following consecutive singles from Caratini and Cooper Hummel with a three-run shot to left, his first homer of the season. Roman Anthony's hot bat leads Red Sox in rout of Rockies
July 8 - Roman Anthony hit his first career home run at Fenway Park en route to his sixth multi-hit game in his last nine, as the Boston Red Sox rolled past the Colorado Rockies 9-3 in the opener of a three-game series on Monday night. Anthony was 3-for-5 and scored twice to lead a 14-hit Boston attack, which earned Richard Fitts (1-3) his first career major league win after allowing just three runs (two earned) in 5 2/3 innings. Ceddanne Rafaela and Romy Gonzalez completed the night with eighth-inning homers for the Red Sox, who have now won four in a row and six of their last seven. Austin Gomber (0-2) was charged with five runs (four earned) on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings for Colorado. Ryan McMahon went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. After Colorado leadoff hitter Tyler Freeman and Boston counterpart Nate Eaton were both caught stealing following first-inning hits, the Rockies drew first blood in the second. Thairo Estrada reached on an error, leading to an unearned run when Brenton Doyle lined an RBI single into center. The Red Sox quickly got the run back and then some in the bottom of the second, as Trevor Story and Carlos Narvaez reached on consecutive fielder's choices -- the latter of which kept all runners safe due to McMahon's throwing error from third -- to set the table. Chris Murphy relieved Fitts following a Mickey Moniak single and an Estrada double in the sixth, and Colorado got back into the game thanks to Michael Toglia's fielder's choice grounder and a RBI single by McMahon. Anthony and pinch hitter Jarren Duran restarted the Boston offense with back-to-back singles in the seventh, with the latter plating a run.
