Defenders' monster TDs highlight top plays from UFL Championship Game
The Defenders went off in Saturday's championship game against the Michigan Panthers, scoring a league-record 58 points in their victory. But the Panthers brought plenty of excitement as well, dropping 34 points in the 58-34 loss.
As there was a lot of high-flying action in Saturday's championship game, here are the 10 best plays from the tilt. 10. Defenders' special teams unit forces the fumble
After taking a 15-13 lead in the second quarter, the Defenders got the ball back immediately after forcing a fumble on the kickoff return. Micah Baskerville ripped the ball out of Xavier Malone's grasp, allowing Willie Drew Jr. to recover the ball at the Panthers' 7-yard line. 9. Defenders QB Jordan Ta'amu and WR Jaydon Mickens link up for huge gain
During one of the few moments that the Defenders were trailing in Saturday's game, Ta'amu and Mickens helped chip away at the Panthers' lead after connecting for a 66-yard reception. The play got the Defenders down to the Panthers' 9-yard line, setting them up for a field goal early in the second quarter. 8. Ta'amu and Mickens connect for their first big play

Michigan got the first big play of the game when McCrary rushed for a 35-yard touchdown, grabbing a 6-0 lead. 2. Turner takes off for long TD
Right after the Defenders ran the "Philly Special" to add to their lead, the Panthers found the end zone with a long touchdown. Perkins lobbed a pass to Turner, who turned a 10-yard completion into a 71-yard touchdown by breaking multiple tackles and dragging a Defenders player with him into the end zone. 1. Ta'amu throws another deep TD to cap off wild first half
The back-and-forth scoring between the Defenders and the Panthers in the final two minutes of the first half of Saturday's game concluded with Ta'amu throwing a deep 73-yard touchdown to Ty Scott. The score gave the Defenders a 37-19 lead with 27 seconds remaining in the first half.

Stanley Cup visits with dolphins during Florida Panthers summer tour
Every member of the Stanley Cup-winning NHL team, per tradition, gets a day with the famed trophy. Florida Panthers general manager Bill Zito spent part of his day with the dolphins. Not the neighboring NFL team Miami Dolphins – but the aquatic mammals. He took the Stanley Cup to Theater of the Sea, a family-owned tourist attraction in Islamorada in the Florida Keys. Video from WPLG Local10 TV station in Miami showed Zito taking fish from the Stanley Cup's bowl and feeding a dolphin. Zito also posted photos of a sea lion eating out of the bowl, joining the tradition of dogs, horses and players' children eating from the top of the Stanley Cup. Zito played a key role in helping the Panthers winning a second consecutive Stanley Cup championship. He acquired Seth Jones and Brad Marchand before the NHL trade deadline. And he managed to get playoff MVP Sam Bennett, Marchand and Aaron Ekblad signed to new deals to give the Panthers a shot at a third consecutive title in 2025-26. Where has the Stanley Cup been? The Stanley Cup was taken to the Elbo Room in Fort Lauderdale and then took center stage at the Panthers' parade. It spent a couple days at the NHL draft then went in for engraving. The names of the 2024-25 winning Panthers are now on the Cup. Forward Matthew Tkachuk took the Stanley Cup to his St. Louis hometown and while visiting with first responders in Brentwood, Missouri, he posed with the trophy inside a jail cell. Panthers HC Dave Canales talks about WR Hunter Renfrow's impressive start to training camp
Hunter Renfrow is giving shades of, well, Hunter Renfrow. Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales chatted with reporters following Saturday's outing of training camp, where the 29-year-old wide receiver absolutely shined. Canales said Renfrow has looked "great," and explained why. "It's just the Hunter Renfrow I remember," Canales stated. "He looks healthy. I think everyone who's watched football over the last four or five years remembers what he looks like, and he's really playing in top form right now. I'm really excited to have him here and to have his family, which is right down the road here after this practice, just to be able to connect with him. And it's a great story that's unfolding right before our eyes." Renfrow's story took an unfortunate turn last year, when he missed the entire 2024 campaign due to a trying battle with ulcerative colitis. The five seasons prior saw Renfrow amass 2,884 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns for the Las Vegas Raiders, a run headlined by his first Pro Bowl selection in 2021. The Myrtle Beach, S.C. native and Clemson University product signed on with the Panthers shortly following the 2025 NFL draft. To stay on and complete his comeback, Renfrow will have to squeeze himself into a relatively tight wideout room—one that already features the likes of first-round picks Tetairoa McMillan and Xavier Legette, another former Pro Bowler in Adam Thielen and 2024 standout Jalen Coker. Panthers DL Derrick Brown is asked if he's at 100 percent yet
Carolina Panthers defensive lineman Derrick Brown is getting there. After welcoming his fourth child into the world this past week, Brown returned to the Panthers on Saturday to start his 2025 training camp journey. The sixth-year veteran, who missed nearly the entirety of the 2024 campaign due to a knee injury, was asked if he's feeling at 100 percent yet. "I feel like it. Gimme a few weeks, I feel like it," Brown replied. "Right now, they got a great plan in place, just gettin' back in shape. Being able to transition back into being able to play the plays I've played before and be there for the team. I expressed my opinion to them and they've been nothing but compliant on when it came to that." Brown went down after Carolina's regular-season opener in New Orleans, when testing revealed a torn meniscus. The Panthers then placed the Pro Bowler on injured reserve, causing him to miss 16 of their 17 games. The defense didn't hold up well in his absence. The Panthers ended up allowing the most rushing yards per game (179.8) as well as the most points ever in a single season. But Brown isn't looking back. "I'm not gonna really touch about last year. It's in the past," he said of 2024. "My wife may not like me being at home. All I did was fuss and cuss at the TV. But that's all I say about that."
