Kota Kinabalu: Lawyer Chin Tek Ming defended his participation in the Gempur Rasuah Sabah 2.0 rally. He questioned what was wrong with exercising his constitutional right to support anti-corruption efforts and provide legal guidance to the students. Speaking after being questioned by Kota Kinabalu police headquarters regarding the rally held on June 21-22, Chin said: 'Citizens have the right to voice concerns about State Government failures and support students demanding justice.' He said he was not present during the caricature burning incident at Lintasan Deasoka and did not support such action. He expressed concern over the ongoing water supply issues affecting students at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), which he cited as a primary motivation for the demonstrations. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Graft claims ahead of election

Published on: Sunday, June 29, 2025 Published on: Sun, Jun 29, 2025 By: Jonathan Nicholas Text Size: Dr. Ritchie (seated middle) with the Tanjung Aru recipients comprised of fishermen and tour operators - Jonathan Nicholas/Daily Express KOTA KINABALU: Dr. Ritchie Jay Cheng of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah has dismissed recent graft allegations against state leaders as baseless and politically motivated ahead of the 17th Sabah state election. The Tanjung Aru division committee member said claims that ministers took bribes for oil exploration licenses made no sense, stressing that such approvals are handled by technical agencies and not ministers. 'These accusations are like bribing a dentist to get a permit to sell eggs,' he said. Dr. Ritchie warned of possible entrapment efforts and noting that without intent to influence decisions, such cases are weak. He urged voters to stay rational and support GRS for continued development. He was speaking during the distribution of life jackets and safety lights to 50 fishermen in Tanjung Aru, a first-time initiative in the area. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Allegations against Jeffrey Kitingan are political smear

Published on: Sunday, June 29, 2025 Published on: Sun, Jun 29, 2025 Text Size: LABUAN: Permanent Chairman of STAR Labuan, Jafery Jomion, denounced recent allegations linking the party's president Datuk Seri Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan to political funds and mining interests in Sabah, calling them part of a calculated political attack ahead of the upcoming state election. 'I feel compelled to respond to attempts to link our President to claims involving political funding and the mining industry in Sabah. These are merely political games as we approach the state election,' he said. Jafery defended Jeffrey's decades-long leadership and commitment to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), saying 'every fruitful tree gets stoned, but its roots remain strong even in a storm.' He highlighted Jeffrey's sacrifices, including spending 2 years and 7 months in prison for standing up for Sabah's rights. 'We've stood with him for over 30 years. His leadership is rooted in the people and will not fall to a storm of perception,' he stressed. Jafery rejected the unproven allegations as part of a coordinated effort to weaken Jeffrey's legacy, stating that real justice must be left to the authorities like the MACC, free from political and media pressure. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
