Abu Dhabi shapes future of energy with AI, smart tech: Expert
SARA ALZAABI (ABU DHABI)Abu Dhabi has long pioneered energy innovation. As the emirate shapes the future of the energy sector, smart grids, digital twins, and decentralised systems have become pivotal to the ongoing transformation, an industry expert has told Aletihad. 'The convergence of sustainability goals, digital transformation, and energy resilience is accelerating the shift toward more intelligent, decentralised energy infrastructure,' said Amel Chadli, President of Gulf Cluster at Schneider Electric, a global energy management and automation company.Smart grids, she explained, provide real-time control of distributed energy resources (DER) and enable data-driven decision-making. With sustainability now a top priority, such solutions are vital to integrating solar energy and managing consumption to lower peak loads and emissions.Decentralised energy systems, especially microgrids, are becoming essential in Abu Dhabi's urban planning and industrial zone development, supporting critical infrastructure like hospitals and data centres, Chadli said. 'They also support energy independence and reduce transmission losses.'Schneider Electric particularly highlighted the deployment of modular microgrid solutions that combine solar PV, battery storage, and energy management systems. 'These systems are sustainable and economically viable, thanks to the falling costs of renewables and storage technologies,' the expert said.Another standout innovation in the sector is the use of digital twins. 'In Abu Dhabi, where large-scale infrastructure projects are the norm, digital twins help create virtual replicas of physical assets, enabling predictive maintenance, performance optimisation, and scenario planning,' Chadli said.By combining digital twins with AI and Internet of Things, 'we can simulate energy flows, forecast demand, and optimise asset performance in real time – improving operational efficiency while supporting the emirate's Net Zero by 2050 ambitions,' she added.
Beyond Sustainable InfrastructureChadli emphasised that this transformation is not limited to Abu Dhabi's buildings or urban development alone. 'Digitalisation is the real hero here – with AI-driven insights and real-time data analytics, we are helping oil and gas companies optimise energy use, reduce emissions, and improve operational efficiency.'AI and predictive analytics, Chadli added, 'are transforming how we generate and consume energy'. Amid the evolving landscape, training and upskilling the workforce is also crucial.'The UAE's Net Zero strategy is projected to create 200,000 jobs in the energy industry,' said Chadli, stressing the need for green and digital skills.
'Companies must realise that talent is a strategic asset. There is a real opportunity here for digital academies, reskilling training, and hands-on training.'

The summit will highlight the role of Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies. This includes the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) to: optimise renewable energy integration improve predictive analytics and emissions monitoring Energy storage solutions will also be discussed. In addition, the summit will address the importance of public-private collaboration in deploying green technologies. DEWA MD and CEO, and Chairman of WGEO, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, stated that holding WGES in Dubai reflects the UAE's commitment to supporting global climate action. He noted the summit's role in creating a space for discussing innovative technologies that can support the transition to a green economy. Al Tayer reported that climate change continues to threaten developing nations, many of which lack the infrastructure needed to withstand extreme weather. He emphasised the importance of integrating efforts and using emerging technologies in an inclusive manner to ensure climate security. He also highlighted that empowering communities with appropriate technologies is key. The summit will promote responsible innovation, enhance international cooperation, and help mobilise funding for practical climate solutions. WGES 2025 will also advocate for the transfer of technology and knowledge to less-prepared countries. Emirates A350 debuts in Dammam
8 July 2025 14:08 Dubai (Aletihad)Emirates has officially launched regular A350 operations to Dammam, making it Emirates' first destination in Saudi Arabia to be served by the all-new Airbus Emirates A350 will operate on flight EK 827 which takes off from Dubai at 7:30 am and arrives in Dammam at 7:50 am. The return flight, EK 828, departs Dammam at 9:20 am and lands in Dubai at 11:45 Emirates A350 features a three-class configuration with 312 seats, including 32 lie-flat Business Class seats in a 1-2-1 layout, 21 Premium Economy seats in a 2-3-2 configuration, 259 Economy Class seats in a 3-3-3 layout. The aircraft is designed to enhance comfort on short and medium-haul flights, with wider cabins, higher ceilings, and a quieter in-flight experience. The deployment of the A350 to Dammam highlights Emirates' continued investment in the Kingdom, since it started operating over three decades ago. The airline currently serves four gateways in Saudi Arabia - Riyadh, Jeddah, Medina, and Dammam, with multiple daily flights, operated on a mix of the iconic A380s, B777s and the A350, offering convenient and seamless connectivity via Dubai to more than 140 Emirates' destinations, the Emirates A350 now flying to Dammam, the city joins a growing list of destinations to receive Emirates' newest aircraft, alongside Mumbai, Edinburgh, Bahrain, Colombo, Kuwait, Muscat, Tunis, Amman and Ahmedabad. Emirates has so far inducted eight A350s into its fleet with plans to deploy it to 17 destinations by the end of 2025.

Madhmoun permit system comes into force, aims to promote transparency in property advertisements

SREENIVASA REDDY (ABU DHABI)The Madhmoun digital permit system, launched by the Abu Dhabi Real Estate Centre (ADREC), officially came into force on Monday (July 7), marking a significant milestone in regulating property advertising across digital platforms in the emirate. This was confirmed in a set of documents shared with Aletihad by Property Finder, a property portal commissioned by ADREC to raise awareness and guide real estate agents on the new regulations. In a notice to one of the property advertisers, ADREC stated, 'We emphasise that obtaining the prior 'Madhmoun' permit through the Abu Dhabi Real Estate Centre's portal 'ADREC' is mandatory as of 07/07/2025 for all types of real estate advertisements within the emirate.' The notice further warned that 'violation of the regulations will result in the imposition of legal and administrative measures by ADREC.'Madhmoun — which means 'verified' in Arabic — is the first governmental Multiple Listing Service (MLS) platform in the GCC. Developed by ADREC, it is designed to enhance transparency, trust, and efficiency in the real estate sector by ensuring that only authorised and verified property listings are published online. The system allows a maximum of three approved brokers to advertise each listing, reinforcing accountability and curbing the new regulation, all property listings published after July 7 must carry a valid Madhmoun permit issued through ADREC's DARI platform. The initiative aims to streamline the advertising process while ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards. It also supports the UAE's broader goal of building a transparent, investor-friendly real estate to ADREC, Madhmoun offers real estate professionals a secure and streamlined way to manage listings through automated API-based publishing. Future platform updates will introduce broker-to-broker collaboration, direct deal-making, and global listing integrations.'By aligning Abu Dhabi's real estate practices with international standards, Madhmoun provides professionals with access to a broader market, increased credibility, and greater opportunities for growth and international exposure,' an ADREC website post the regulation does not apply universally. Properties located within the jurisdiction of Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) — specifically on Al Maryah Island and Al Reem Island — are currently excluded from the Madhmoun permit property types are also exempt. Hotel apartments require a Madhmoun permit only if they are managed by local entities and owned by UAE nationals. Holiday homes, generally governed by the Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT), are excluded unless registered under Tawtheeq, in which case a permit is DARI platform offers step-by-step guidance on how brokers and property owners can obtain permits for listings, whether for sale or rent.
