PETALING JAYA, July 19 — Malaysia's top men's doubles pair Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani have reportedly advanced to the Japan Open final for the second consecutive year.
According to The Star, the world No. 1 duo secured a straight-games victory over Taiwan's Liu Kuang-heng and Yang Po-han, winning 21-19, 21-11 in the semi-final at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium today.
The independent pair will now face South Korea's world No. 3 Seo Seung-jae and Kim Won-ho in the final tomorrow.
The Korean pair had earlier ended the campaign of Malaysians Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi, defeating them 21-14, 21-15 in the other semi-final.
Head-to-head, Sze Fei-Izzuddin and Seo-Kim have met twice before, with both sides claiming one victory each.

Thinaah and Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani for finishing runners-up in the women's and men's events, respectively, at the 2025 Japan Open badminton championships. Ahmad Zahid described the fighting spirit, high discipline and strong determination shown by the two pairs as a source of inspiration for all Malaysians. "Continue to move forward, keep fighting. Don't ever feel afraid or retreat. Every drop of sweat paves the way to even greater success. "We all stand firmly behind you. For the country, for Malaysia!" he posted on Facebook. In today's Japan Open finals, Pearly-Thinaah emerged as runners-up after losing 5-21, 14-21 to world number one Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning of China. Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin, meanwhile, went down 16-21, 17-21 to South Korea's Kim Won Ho-Seo Seung Jae. As runners-up, each Malaysian pair took home USD33,250 (RM141,000). – BERNAMA

CHINA 's Shi Yuqi secured the Japan Open badminton title with a commanding 21-17, 21-15 victory over defending champion Alex Lanier of France in the men's singles final. The former world number one showcased his experience against the rising French star, sealing the win in 50 minutes. 'I wanted to take it at my own pace, and even if I was losing I knew it was important to dig in,' said Shi, currently ranked third globally. 'My opponent is young and he has a lot of physical strength, so I knew I had to stick to my own style.' Lanier, who won his first major senior title in Tokyo last year, admitted feeling the pressure as defending champion. 'I don't think that it is affecting me mentally, but physically you play with a bit more pressure,' he said. In the women's final, South Korea's An Se-young continued her dominant season with a 21-12, 21-10 win over China's Wang Zhiyi. The world number one has now claimed six titles in seven tournaments this year, her only defeat coming at the Singapore Open. 'I always have areas that need to be improved on so I work on those in training,' said An, the reigning Olympic champion. 'I challenge myself and that's what leads to these results.' China enjoyed further success in doubles events. Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin triumphed in mixed doubles, while Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning won the women's doubles.
