MAF Must Stay Prepared, Equipped With Latest Defence Technology

KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 (Bernama) -- The increasingly challenging and uncertain global political landscape requires that the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) remain ever ready and equipped with the latest defence technology to face any eventuality.
His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, said the Iran-Israel war and prolonged conflict in Gaza clearly show that international laws are no longer sufficient to safeguard global peace.
'It is crucial for the MAF to always be prepared and equipped with the latest technology to deal with any possibility, as we don't know who is a friend and who is an enemy,' His Majesty said.
The King said this when officiating the commissioning parade and presentation of appointment letters to MAF cadet officers at Kem Perdana, Sungai Besi here today.
At the same time, Sultan Ibrahim reminded the government to ensure that there is no political interference or influence from suppliers in all defence procurement processes.
'MAF top leadership, too, must always act with integrity and steer clear of corrupt practices. As the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, I will not tolerate anyone who abuses their position for personal gain,' said His Majesty.
Sultan Ibrahim also expressed concern over the culture of social media use among military personnel and reminded them not to share everything online, particularly information related to troop deployments, unit locations and other sensitive details.
He said the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel showed how both sides have easily exploited information obtained through technology companies, smart applications and social media to launch attacks.
'I want this to stop immediately. Use sound judgment and refrain from disclosing unnecessary information to the public. It is better to be cautious now than to regret later,' His Majesty said.

Decision To Review 13MP Not Hasty
KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 (Bernama) -- The government's decision to review the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) is not a hasty reaction, but rather one that has gone through a discussion process over the past two weeks, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. He said the discussions began with a draft presented by the Economy Ministry secretary-general to the Cabinet. 'We've actually discussed this. In my press conference a few weeks ago, I mentioned that the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) had issued a directive to review the draft presented by the Economy Ministry secretary-general. 'As you know, any policy, programme or decision must first be presented at a Cabinet meeting. 'So, on Friday last week (June 20), the Prime Minister requested all ministries to study the draft and submit their feedback to the Economy Ministry,' he said at a press conference after launching the Nadi Aspirasi Nasional Bersama Anak Muda (NANBA) programme organised by the Community Communications Department (J-KOM) here today. Fahmi, who is also the MADANI government spokesman, said following that, a special Cabinet meeting was held last Monday to review feedback from all ministries. 'During the meeting, it was found that many matters raised by the ministries need to be considered by the Economy Ministry in drawing up the 13MP document. 'That was one of the reasons why, in last Wednesday's Cabinet meeting — the latest one — it was decided that Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah would take on the duties and functions of the Economy Minister,' he said. Earlier, former Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli was reported to have questioned the government's move to review the 13MP, calling it a hasty response to social media criticism.

Malaysia, Russia to deepen economic ties
MOSCOW: Malaysia and Russia will deepen economic cooperation, particularly in high-potential sectors such as the halal industry, agriculture and food security, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said. He said bilateral trade between the two countries remained modest in 2024, despite Russia's large economy. Russia ranked as Malaysia's ninth-largest trading partner among European nations this year, with total trade reaching RM11.46 billion (US$2.48 billion). Malaysia's key exports to Russia include electrical and electronic products, machinery, equipment and parts, as well as processed food. "I invited Russian companies to invest in Malaysia and take advantage of the government's incentives in strategic sectors such as aerospace, agrotechnology, energy, ICT (information and communications technology), the digital economy, Islamic finance and the halal industry," he said at a press conference at the end of his four-day working visit to Russia late last night. Fadillah, who is also the energy transition and water transformation minister, called for cooperation in agriculture and food security, and proposed joint research and development in fertiliser and pesticide technologies, agro-engineering and food technology. "I discussed collaboration in higher education and conveyed appreciation to the Russian government for its scholarships to Malaysian students. "I also proposed that these scholarships be extended to emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, big data and information science, in line with current industrial transformation," he said. On tourism, Fadillah said Malaysia welcomed a proposal for direct flights between the two countries, which is expected to be finalised soon. However, he said that Russia had raised concerns over financial transactions, which had to some extent hampered the growth of bilateral trade. He gave an assurance that the Malaysian government, through the relevant agencies, including Bank Negara Malaysia, would continue to facilitate smooth financial transactions between both sides. "I will present the outcomes of my discussions with Russian counterparts to the cabinet upon my return to Malaysia. "Insya-Allah, I am confident that Malaysia-Russia cooperation will continue to develop positively and bring tangible benefits to our country," he added. – Bernama
