‘A completely avoidable situation' – PSG head coach Luis Enrique lifts lid on altercation with Chelsea striker João Pedro

Yahoo8 hours ago
PSG head coach Luis Enrique lost his temper in the aftermath of Les Parisiens' chastening 3-0 defeat against Chelsea in Sunday's Club World Cup final. The Champions League 1 winners were one game away from a historic quintuple, but they fell at the final hurdle as Cole Palmer and João Pedro ran riot in New Jersey. 'Chelsea started the match brightly with very high pressure', the Spaniard said. 'They put us in difficulty. We had chances to score, but we didn't. Overall, they deserved their victory.'
Tensions then reached a boiling point after the final whistle as several PSG and Chelsea players came to blows. A visibly angry Luis Enrique pushed Chelsea striker João Pedro, who fell to the ground. The PSG head coach justifies his actions by saying he was trying to separate players and prevent tension from rising. 'It was a completely avoidable situation for everyone. Different people were involved in this. We had to avoid problems. I wanted to prevent it from escalating.'

Paul Finebaum Didn't Hesitate To Put Top SEC Head Coach On Hot Seat

Paul Finebaum Didn't Hesitate To Put Top SEC Head Coach On Hot Seat originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Paul Finebaum isn't pulling any punches when it comes to Hugh Freeze. The longtime Southeastern Conference insider and ESPN college football analyst appeared on the "McElroy & Cubelic" podcast and made it clear: the Auburn head coach is officially on the hot seat. Advertisement "It's easier to find schools in must-win situations because there's so many of them," Finebaum said, referring to the growing pressure on several coaches heading into the 2025 season. But his focus quickly shifted to Auburn and Freeze in particular. "I think 6 or 8 or 10 weeks ago… I said, 'Hugh Freeze is in good shape. He's recruited well,'" Finebaum admitted, acknowledging that he had previously defended the coach entering his third year at Auburn. However, things have changed and not for the better. Auburn's lackluster performance on the recruiting trail and Freeze's recent attempt to shift the narrative have raised eyebrows across the SEC. Advertisement Paul Finebaum, radio and ESPN television Ruinard / staff, The Greenville News via Imagn Content Services, LLC "I think it's a long game play for us that I think is gonna work out in our favor, because we're doing it very transparent in the way we believe the settlement is written to operate, if that makes any sense," Freeze said on David Pollack's "See Ball Get Ball" show. Auburn is ranked 78th in 247Sports' recruiting team rankings for 2026. "And then I started getting closer to the sun. Now I literally can't believe what I've experienced," Finebaum continued, referring to the growing realization that Freeze may be in over his head at Auburn. He didn't hold back when addressing Freeze's decision to appear on a podcast to defend himself. 'It could be, maybe (I was) a prisoner of the moment. Maybe the headlines,' Finebaum said. 'But I don't think he helped himself at all the other day by finding a friendly podcast to go on and trying to act like the media, and one or two people in particular, have no earthly idea what we're talking about.' Advertisement For Finebaum, Freeze's inability to clearly articulate Auburn's direction is a major red flag. 'He can't even explain it to his own fan base what's going on down there,' Finebaum said. If Auburn doesn't show improvement quickly on the field and on the recruiting trail, Freeze could be the next big-name coach facing an early exit. Steelers $5 million running back shockingly named breakout candidate for 2025 NFL season

The Pittsburgh Steelers' running back room looks a bit different this season after the departure of Najee Harris and the additions of Kaleb Johnson in the draft and Kenneth Gainwell in free agency. The one member of the group returning from 2024 is Jaylen Warren, who is expected to have a breakout 2025 campaign, according to Bleacher Report's Moe Moton. Advertisement "Unless Johnson looks incredible in training camp and the preseason, Warren figures to get the first crack at being the Steelers' lead ball-carrier. He has never recorded more than 15 carries in a game, but that could change this year," Moton wrote. Though Warren has the path to be the No.1 running back in the Steelers' offense, it's hard to see him having a breakout season. The Steelers used a third-round pick in April's draft on Johnson for a reason, as the Iowa product figures to be the running back of the future and could receive the bulk of the carries for a majority of his rookie campaign. Warren has a ton of promise in the receiving game and should be a nice change of pace back in Arthur Smith's unit. However, Johnson is primed to be the starter, which would make it tough for Warren to post prolific numbers in his fourth season. Advertisement MORE PITTSBURGH STEELERS NEWS T.J.
