AR Rahman Receives Praise From Singapore President For Collaborating With Local Musicians
Last Updated:
Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam praised AR Rahman for his contributions to the cultural scene and collaboration with local musicians.
Singapore's President Tharman Shanmugaratnam has expressed deep appreciation for Oscar-winning Indian composer AR Rahman's continued collaboration with local musicians, calling it a meaningful contribution to the country's cultural scene.
In a recent social media post shared on June 2, Tharman talked about how Rahman has uplifted Singapore's homegrown artists over the years. 'ARR has also done our own talent good over the years, by giving them valuable exposure," The Straits Times quoted him as saying.
Referring to Singapore's diverse arts scene, the President noted, 'Our Indian music and cultural talent, from classical to the most contemporary and edgy, are naturally a minority in the local scene. But they make Singapore's multiculturalism all the more special."
It was an honour meeting President @Tharman_S. My company, @ARRimmersive, looks forward to collaborating more with Singaporean artists on cutting-edge creative projects that push the boundaries of art and technology.Grateful for the love at the Le Musk premiere.

Tharman named several Singaporean acts who have teamed up with the celebrated composer, including rapper-songwriter duo Lady Kash and Krissy, singer Shabir, and rapper Yung Raja. Notably, Rahman's 2014 film Highway featured the track Wanna Mash Up? in collaboration with Lady Kash and Krissy.
The President also shared a personal touch, recalling Rahman's early ties with Singapore. Back in the 1980s, the composer made his first international trip to the city-state and bought his music gear from iconic local stores Swee Lee and City Music. 'Good to see that both local music stores are still going strong after all these years," Tharman added.
Tharman also posted photographs from his meeting with the music maestro, who was in Singapore recently for the premiere of his directorial debut Le Musk — a 37-minute virtual reality film that blends scent, music, and immersive visuals. The film, which is showing at Golden Village Suntec City until August 12, features viewers sitting in specially designed egg-shaped chairs while wearing VR headsets and experiencing scents released during key moments.
Rahman's bond with Singapore goes back decades. He has performed in the country multiple times, including concerts at Gardens by the Bay (2014), the Singapore Indoor Stadium (2005), Marina Bay Sands (2011), and most recently at the National Stadium in August 2024.

'Why double standard?': Employee questions office dress code after boss bans slippers but allows crop tops
A Reddit post has sparked discussion around workplace attire and perceived double standards. In a post titled 'Dresscode double standards: crop tops ok, slippers not ok', a user named @peela_doodh12 shared an incident from his workplace—a digital news company that reportedly has no official dress code—where he was instructed by his boss not to wear slippers to the office. A Redditor questioned office dress code norms after being told not to wear slippers.(Representational image/Unsplash) (Also read: Employee details ordeal of manager 'shamelessly' asking for money despite repeated refusals) 'I work at a digital news website where there's no official dress code. Some women coworkers wear crop tops that expose the navel and I have no issue with that,' the post begins. 'But here's what bothers me: I was once told by my boss not to wear slippers. My role doesn't involve attending meetings or any situation that demands formal wear. So why the double standard? If others can dress comfortably, why can't I wear slippers as long as I'm doing my job well?' Check out the post here: Mixed reactions flood the comments The post quickly attracted comments from fellow Redditors, with users weighing in from both sides of the discussion. One user sarcastically suggested, 'Go with barefoot so your supervisor will request you to wear at least slippers.' Another offered a more technical explanation: 'Slippers are dangerous during evacuations as per Health and Safety ISO standards. Your company is ensuring your safety. This is followed in all MNCs.' Yet some responses reflected personal observations and biases. 'Most of the girls who wear crop tops to the office keep pulling the dress down to cover their tummy… wonder why they chose to wear crop tops,' one commenter wrote. Others took a more neutral or supportive stance. 'People can wear anything publicly decent that they want to if there's no dress code. There's nothing wrong in that. And of course, no one wears a dirty pair of slippers to office if that's what you're imagining,' said a user. (Also read: US company demands Indian employee keep camera on during work hours. His response) However, not everyone agreed. 'Who wears slippers at office? Doesn't matter what your role is, at least respect the decorum of the place,' one Redditor argued. In defence, the original poster responded, 'Read the post. There is no dress code. Can you tell me what exactly is wrong with slippers? How does that not maintain the decorum? If I'm doing job fine how does it matter what one wears.' Another commenter added, 'I used to wear bathroom slippers to my startup, no one cared.'

Hailee Steinfeld dethrones Brittany Mahomes to become NFL's richest WAG after marrying Josh Allen
Hailee Steinfeld's marriage to Josh Allen has catapulted her to the top of the NFL WAG hierarchy (Getty Images) The NFL WAG scene has a new queen—and her name is Hailee Steinfeld . The Oscar-nominated actress and singer quietly tied the knot with Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen in late May 2025, closing the chapter on their two-year romance that began in spring 2023. The couple got engaged in November 2024, but it wasn't until recently that their marriage made headlines—and for good reason. Hailee Steinfeld 's quiet wedding with Josh Allen sets a new standard for NFL WAGs Hailee Steinfeld's emergence as an NFL wife immediately put her in elite company, alongside names like Brittany Mahomes and Ciara Wilson. But it's her star power, career accolades, and financial status that truly make her stand out. With a net worth estimated at $25 million, Steinfeld surpasses both Brittany Mahomes, who sits at around $15 million, and Ciara, who comes in at $20 million. Brittany Mahomes has carved a respectable niche as a co-owner of the Kansas City Current and with her Brittany Lynne Fitness brand. She's built a loyal following and contributes to the Mahomes Foundation while locking in endorsements with brands like Shop Vitality. Despite her fitness empire and sports business ties, her financial footprint doesn't quite stack up to Steinfeld's. Ciara Wilson, wife of Steelers QB Russell Wilson, also brings serious firepower. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025 Top Trending local enterprise accounting software Esseps Learn More Undo From early 2000s chart-topping hits like 1, 2 Step to brand endorsements with Revlon, Verizon, and Adidas Originals, Ciara has maintained her cultural relevance. Her roles in blockbuster superhero franchises and an ongoing streak of film offers have kept her at the center of pop culture. Beyond the screen, her real estate portfolio is just as impressive. She reportedly owns an $8 million estate in Encino, as well as properties in Thousand Oaks and New York City's Midtown Manhattan. Taylor Swift's high-profile relationship with Travis Kelce has definitely shaken up the NFL landscape, but Steinfeld currently holds the edge in the WAG power rankings. With more acting deals on the horizon and her music career still viable, she's positioned to widen the gap.
