Warriors Re-join Race For LeBron James

Warriors Re-join Race For LeBron James originally appeared on Athlon Sports. For years, Stephen Curry and LeBron James were foes. They finally got a chance to play together in the Olympics, giving the fans a glimpse of what could've been. Now, they could be joining forces again, this time in the NBA. Advertisement According to a report by ESPN insiders Brian Windhorst and Ramona Shelburne, the Golden State Warriors are seriously considering making a run at James: "A handful of teams -- including the Golden State Warriors, who tried to trade for James in 2023-24 -- considered again whether to make an offer, sources said," reported Windhorst and Shelburne. The Warriors already tried to trade for LeBron James, but he wasn't interested in taking his talents to the Bay Area, per reports. However, things may have changed, now that the Los Angeles Lakers might be gearing up to move on from him. Per Windhorst and Shelburne, James didn't care for the way the Lakers handled his contract situation. They didn't offer him an extension or even discuss his future beyond this season: Advertisement "The Lakers had already made their statement in not offering James a contract beyond this season. It was abundantly clear that the 21-time All-Star's time as the face of the Lakers had, for the first time, a planned end date, even if James' record-setting NBA career did not yet," added the report. That essentially gives him the opportunity to hand-pick his next destination, and he already knows what it's like to team up with Curry. Both of them have drawn criticism for some of the superstars they've played with, but now that they're both inching closer to the mortality of their basketball careers, it would be a treat to watch them team up to dominate the league together in the same way they did individually in their primes. Two Players Emerge as Potential Warriors Free Agent Targets

Two Players Emerge as Potential Warriors Free Agent Targets originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Golden State Warriors have been the quietest team in the NBA since free agency started. The Warriors' season came to a tragic end at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves. They faced an uphill climb to even make the playoffs after being as low as the No. 12 seed in the Western Conference. Advertisement Once the Warriors executed a trade that saw them acquire Jimmy Butler, the Warriors took off, going 23-7 with him in the lineup. However, even that impressive run wasn't enough to qualify for the NBA playoffs outright, and they were forced to the NBA Play-In Tournament, where they took on and defeated the Memphis Grizzlies. Everything was going well until Warriors superstar guard Stephen Curry went down with a hamstring injury. There was speculation that he could've returned for Game 6, but the Warriors lost the next four games, leaving fans wondering what could've been. Advertisement Many believed that the Warriors would be one of the more active teams when free agency opened in hopes of bolstering their roster around their key contributors, Curry and Butler. However, the opposite has happened, primarily due to the market for restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga has been quiet. Two names have recently surfaced as possible targets the Warriors could pursue in Curry's brother, Seth Curry, in addition to Ben Simmons, per NBA Insider Brett Siegel. 'Outside of players like Malcolm Brogdon, Trey Lyles, and Gary Payton II, who we previously reported as potential free-agent targets for the Warriors this offseason, two other interesting names were brought up in conversations during the first two days of NBA Summer League: Seth Curry and Ben Simmons,' wrote Siegel. Advertisement Curry would bring a much-needed shooter to the Warriors' lineup. After Stephen Curry went down, the Warriors didn't have much in terms of outside shooting, and the defense, knowing this, was able to cheat off a bit, considering Butler isn't much of a shooting threat. As for Simmons, he would provide the Warriors with an additional ball-handler and perimeter defender and would likely play in Draymond Green's role when he's not on the floor. While those names might not move the needle in some fans' minds, it could set up moves down the road for the Warriors to consider if they're truly going all in on winning a title next season. LeBron James Refuses Interview Amid Lakers Trade Rumors

LeBron James Refuses Interview Amid Lakers Trade Rumors originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has been involved in several trade rumors as of late, thanks to Rich Paul's comments about his current priorities. Advertisement After James picked up the $52.6 million player option on his Lakers contract to return for a 23rd season in the NBA, he quickly made headlines after Paul said that the 40-year-old forward "wants to compete for a championship." Paul also noted that while James understands that the "Lakers are building for the future," he still "values a realistic chance of winning it all." Many interpreted it as James' way of pressuring the franchise to make big moves — or else he would request a trade. James has since been linked with a number of teams, including the Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers and Dallas Mavericks. So far, however, he has yet to address the rumors. Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James (23) in the second half against the Boston Celtics at the Lee-Imagn Images On Saturday, the four-time NBA MVP could have answered all the questions and concerns about his future when ESPN reporter Dave McMenamin gave him the opportunity to do so. However, he refused to talk about it. Advertisement McMenamin made the revelation during the Lakers' Summer League game against the New Orleans Pelicans — a contest that James attended to support his son, Bronny James. "Now I ask LeBron just before tip-off if he'd like to join the broadcast to discuss everything, and he told me: 'I ain't got nothing to talk about,'" McMenamin revealed. For what it's worth, while LeBron James didn't join the ESPN broadcast, his agent Rich Paul apparently talked with Dave McMenamin and made it clear that the superstar hasn't requested a trade and that it hasn't been discussed at all. Paul also rejected the idea that the cause of the trade rumors was the Lakers' decision not to offer James a contract beyond next season. According to Paul, per McMenamin's report, they "never asked for one."
