Scheduled at the Sri Kanteerava Stadium on Saturday, the event is co-organised by Chopra and JSW Sports, and sanctioned by World Athletics and the Athletics Federation of India (AFI). It has been granted gold- level status by World Athletics, a recognition of its global relevance.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Chopra said, 'I would like to thank the Government of Karnataka, KOA and DYES for playing a key role in ensuring that the stadium meets international standards. Their efforts will create a world-class experience for athletes and fans. I am especially grateful to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and MLC Dr K Govindaraj for their support.'
Siddaramaiah said, 'We are proud that India's most successful Olympic athlete is bringing a world-class athletics event to our country. Karnataka is committed to supporting this sporting revolution, and we have assured Neeraj of our full backing.'
KOA president and MLC Dr K Govindaraj said they have worked closely with DYES to ensure that all preparations are on track. From the pitch to the stands, the upgrades are meant to deliver an international experience, he added.

India ready to host global sport beyond cricket: JSW Sports COO

Bengaluru, July 5 (UNI) Declaring a new era for Indian track and field sports, JSW Sports Chief Operating Officer Divyanshu Singh today said the Neeraj Chopra Classic is not just a competition but a defining statement that 'India is ready to host, nurture and celebrate global sporting excellence, not just in cricket, football or kabaddi, but in athletics too.' In a passionate message hours ahead of the much-anticipated launch of the international javelin event named after Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra, Singh said the tournament marks a significant milestone not only for the sport of javelin, but for Indian athletics as a whole. 'At JSW Sports, we have always believed in the power of sport to inspire, unite and uplift. When Neeraj came to us with the idea of hosting a worldclass javelin event in India — one that would offer a stage for the world's best while igniting the dreams of the next generation, we knew we had to help him bring it to life,' Singh stated. He emphasised that the Neeraj Chopra Classic is not merely a sporting fixture, but a reflection of changing narratives in Indian sports, particularly in disciplines long relegated to the margins. 'For far too long, athletics has lived on the margins of mainstream sporting consciousness in our country. But Neeraj's journey — from Khandra to Olympic gold — has changed that. This event is our collective effort to push that narrative forward,' Singh added. Singh acknowledged that realising an event of such scale and ambition requires more than just passion. 'It takes belief. It takes vision. And it takes an enormous amount of support,' he said, extending gratitude to every brand and partner that backed the initiative. 'Their support is not just commercial — it's cultural. It's part of rewriting what's possible for Indian sport.' He further expressed sincere appreciation to the Government of Karnataka, the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, the Karnataka Olympic Association, and the Athletics Federation of India. 'Without their guidance and encouragement, none of this would have been possible. They have been lighthouses and true partners in progress,' he remarked. Reiterating JSW Sports' mission, Singh said: 'Our aim has always been to elevate Indian sport — one athlete, one story, one milestone at a time. And the Neeraj Chopra Classic is one of the most meaningful milestones yet.' Calling on the public to embrace the experience, Singh encouraged attendees and viewers to absorb the moment. 'Whether you're a lifelong athletics fan or someone discovering the sport for the first time — watch the throws, feel the tension, hear the roar. "This is more than just a competition. It's the start of something new, and hopefully something lasting,' he said. UNI BDN RN

Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025 Live Updates: Another 90m on the cards? Bengaluru hosts star-studded NC Classic

Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025 Live: India is set to witness a landmark sporting moment on Saturday, July 5, as double Olympic medallist and World Champion Neeraj Chopra headlines the inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, a prestigious World Athletics Continental Tour Gold-Level event. Held at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru, this meet marks the first time India is hosting an international track and field event of such stature, placing it on the same global map as cities like Doha, Paris, and Nairobi. The meet is co-organised by Neeraj Chopra himself, alongside JSW Sports, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), and World Athletics. More than just a sporting contest, it's a celebration of Indian athletics entering a new era of global recognition. "It feels great that such an event is happening in India and that such good athletes have come here to compete together. I am very excited for this event. Organising and playing together is tough. I have always focused on playing, but now I have to take care of everything. As an organiser, I have to think about all these small things. I like it. Thank you to the Karnataka Government and everyone supporting us. A big thank you to the JSW team for their support--they are working very hard with us," Neeraj Chopra said ahead of the event. The spotlight event of the evening is, of course, the men's javelin throw, starting at 7:00 PM IST, where Neeraj will take on some of the world's finest. The lineup features Olympic champion Thomas Röhler (Germany), former world champion Julius Yego (Kenya), and top competitors like Curtis Thompson (USA) and Cyprian Mrzyglód (Poland). The Indian contingent is equally strong with Rohit Yadav, Sachin Yadav, Sahil Silwal, and Yash Vir Singh in action. The NC Classic is crucial for Neeraj as he builds momentum toward the World Championships in Tokyo. He enters the meet on a two-event winning streak, including a stunning national record of 90.23m set in Doha. The event promises much more than elite sport. There will be pre-event music performances, headlined by Haryanvi rapper Dhanda Nyoliwala, and a special felicitation for Jan Zelezny, Neeraj's coach and the javelin world record holder. Chopra's family will also be present, adding a personal touch to what is already a historic occasion.

‘I just randomly tweeted': Fan who got fully paid trip to NC Classic thanks to Neeraj Chopra, recounts experience

Ranjith Kumar Ravichandran became a viral sensation last month when his 'random' tweet was quote tweeted by Neeraj Chopra and now, the Coimbatore resident is at the Neeraj Chopra NC Classic event thanks to a fully paid trip thanks to the javelin star and the organizers. 'If anyone sponsor me 2000 rupees, I can go to watch this from Coimbatore,' Ranjith had posted. Much to everyone's delight, Neeraj quote tweeted the post, saying that, 'Hi, Ranjith. You've got a full VVIP experience waiting for you in Bengaluru because your trip to the nc_classic is on me! And thanks to RadissonHotels, you'll be staying about 90 metres away from me. See you soon.' 'I just randomly tweeted, I must have forgotten about it. After a day or so, suddenly a notification popped up in 'X' platform, a quoted tweet from Neeraj himself. I was like: Is this even real? Somebody come and pinch me so that I can feel it,' Ranjith told PTI. 'All of a sudden everything was happening. People were sharing the news and I was getting calls and all those things. I couldn't believe it initially. I checked twice. It's from Neeraj Chopra. I had to refresh and check it again whether it's real or not. Then I got a call (from NC Classic organisers) saying you are the lucky person to get sponsored to visit the event, stay in a (five-star) hotel and all those things. It was a pretty surreal moment at that time,' he added. The Neeraj Chopra Classic, the country's first-ever international javelin competition, will take place in Bengaluru's Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Saturday. A dream of Neeraj, the even bears his name like the Mondo Classic and Keeley Classic that are already part of the athletics calendar. NC Classic has been granted the World Athletics Gold level status. Asked what will be his first reaction when he meets Chopra in person for the first time, Ranjith said, 'I think I will be frozen for a moment. I will ask, are you real? I'll also get a signature so that I can probably frame it for a lifetime.' (With agency inputs)
