A surprising rumor is heating up in the NHL world. Calgary Flames forward Nazem Kadri has once again become the center of trade talks. Kadri, who once played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, is now linked to a possible return to his former team.
What's making headlines is his massive $49 million contract, which many believe is blocking any real chance of that happening.
Nazem Kadri's $49 million deal becomes the main issue
Nazem Kadri signed a seven-year, $49 million contract with the Calgary Flames in 2022. That means he still has five years left with a salary cap hit of $7 million per season. This contract includes a no-movement clause, meaning Kadri cannot be traded unless he agrees to it.
Recently, David Pagnotta, a trusted NHL insider, spoke about the situation during a segment on Leafs Morning Take. He said,
'I think Calgary would entertain it, I just don't see a fit with Toronto.'
This means Calgary might be open to trading Kadri, but Toronto may not be the right team for him now.
Why Nazem Kadri Toronto Maple Leafs return feels unlikely
Kadri was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2009 and played there until 2019. Many fans would love to see him return, but it's not that simple. The Maple Leafs are dealing with salary cap limits, and bringing back Kadri's $7 million salary would make it hard to manage their roster.

Nazem Kadri had a decent season in Calgary and is still a capable player.
Adding Kadri, however, could obstruct opportunities for younger players as the Maple Leafs already have many highly paid stars.
Alternatively, it might entail giving away significant parts or future opportunities. Kadri, too 34 years old, is speeding younger. Though at a cost, his knowledge and playoff performance might benefit the team. Some people believe it's not worth the risk. Others argue Kadri's leadership could be exactly what the Leafs need in the playoffs.
For now, it's just a rumor. But it shows how much attention one contract and one former player can create in NHL trade talk.

IND vs ENG: 'Criminal offence' - Yograj Singh tears into Shubman Gill for missing triple century

Shubman Gill (Getty Images) NEW DELHI: Yuvraj Singh 's father Yograj Singh appeared miffed and took a dig at India's Test captain Shubman Gill for missing out on a well-deserved triple century in the second Test against England at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham. Gill scored a commanding 269 in the first innings but fell 31 runs short of becoming the first Indian to notch up a triple ton in over a decade. "A player's hunger should never die. Just saying 'I've scored 200' or 'I've made 250' — okay, well played, fine. But I never say 'well played'. That's your job, brother — but why did you get out?" Yograj said. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! "Go make 300, then 350, even 400 — those will come too. But you have to try. My attitude is that getting out at any stage is a criminal offence, brother. How did you get out? Were you tired? Played a shot straight into someone's hands?" he added. "This player (Shubman) is really good, and maybe every Indian cricketer — all eleven — have come out of his training. So that's a big thing for you, and for Shubman too. The hard work he's put in over the last seven years is finally bearing fruit now," he said. In the second innings, Gill produced another masterclass, smashing a majestic 161 off just 162 deliveries, helping India declare at 427/6 in 83 overs. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Sunteck Launches Windcrest Collection 2 & 3 BHKs from ₹1.27 Cr* Sunteck Sky Park Learn More Undo Gill dazzled with his elegant strokeplay, hammering 13 fours and eight sixes in what became his eighth Test century, fifth against England, and third in just his fourth innings as India's Test captain. With a match aggregate of 430 runs, Gill is now the second-highest run-scorer in a single Test match, behind only England's Graham Gooch (456 runs). He also became the first player in Test history to score both a double century and a 150 in the same match. India Dominate Day 4! Siraj & Akash Deep Rattle England Former India captain Virat Kohli hailed Gill's remarkable achievement. "Well played, star boy. Rewriting history. Onwards and upwards from here. You deserve all of this," Kohli said in his Instagram story. Gill began the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series with a sublime 147 in the first innings of the first Test at Headingley in Leeds. However, despite his century, India went on to lose that game by five wickets. For real-time updates, scores, and highlights, follow our live coverage of the India vs England Test match here.
