Planet Secures Four Major Wins for AI-Enabled Solutions in the Defense and Intelligence Sector
Planet Labs PBC today announced it has secured four major awards for its new AI-enabled solutions with customers in the Defense & Intelligence sector.
These contracts support enhanced situational awareness and informed decision-making for government customers in the U.S. and internationally. They underscore the growing demand for Planet's modern approach to national security, leveraging its proprietary satellite data and advanced artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.
Among the key agreements being highlighted:
As announced today in a separate press release, Planet won a €240 million contract, funded by Germany, one component of which is a multi-year contract renewal with an 8-figure annual value for PlanetScope data and AI-enabled solutions.
In addition, Planet's existing Hybrid Space Architecture (HSA) contract with the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), part of the U.S. Department of Defense, was recently expanded in support of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM). It will provide AI-enabled solutions focused on delivering vital indications and warnings for national security. As the U.S. government modernizes its defense capabilities, Planet's broad area data and AI advancements are designed to enable customers to monitor entire countries or regions for critical changes and threats.
Planet signed a seven-figure expansion with the U.S. Navy to provide Maritime Domain Awareness over the Pacific Ocean region.
Finally, as announced on June 12, 2025, Planet was selected by NATO for a seven-figure contract to deliver persistent space-based surveillance, enhanced indications and warnings, and critical Maritime Domain Awareness functions.
These wins build on the momentum highlighted in Planet's other recent announcements, which include another 8-figure annual contract value win with a European defense and intelligence customer for PlanetScope and Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) products, as announced on Planet's prior earnings call.
Additionally, Planet was recently awarded a contract option by the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) as part of the Electro-Optical Commercial Layer (EOCL) program. This extends Planet's provision of daily monitoring and high-resolution tasking data, maintaining its prior EOCL performance level from June through October 2025.
'As shared on our recent earnings call, the changing geopolitical landscape and modernization of security capabilities are driving unprecedented interest in our solutions,' said Will Marshall, Planet's Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder. 'Today's announcements highlight the strong demand for AI-enabled solutions and our data, demonstrated by the multiple contracts with an eight-figure annual contract value.'
Will Marshall continued, 'Our strategic decision to focus on AI-enabled solutions built on our daily satellite data was clearly the right decision. Nations are showing strong interest in these solutions for 'peripheral vision' – the ability to identify and understand threats across their region.'
Planet's unique dataset, ideal for AI models and building next-generation solutions, includes daily scans of approximately 150 million square kilometers of land and 20 million square kilometers of critical ocean territory, complemented by an archive of over 3,000 images for every point on land. This wide-area monitoring capability empowers customers to uncover new threats, or "unknown unknowns," across vast land and ocean territories, moving beyond traditional "reconnaissance"-based intelligence gathering that primarily focuses on known threats.
'These wins clearly demonstrate the results of our go-to-market and product focus,' said Ashley Johnson, President and CFO. 'As shared in our prior earnings call, we're making a strategic shift towards downstream solutions, which is validated with significant customer wins such as those announced today. We look forward to sharing more on our Q2 call.'
Planet is not updating its previously issued financial guidance for this fiscal year, which was provided on June 4, 2025.
Planet will host a Press Briefing for members of the media today, July 1, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. ET / 9:00 a.m. PT. The live webinar can be accessed at https://app.webinar.net/xK4GZngma5X and requires registration to participate.
Concurrent with today's announcement, Planet has launched a new Defense & Intelligence section of its website, which can be accessed at planet.com/industries/defense-and-intelligence.

How Ukraine can cope with the US pause on crucial battlefield weapons
KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — The decision by the United States to pause some weapons shipments to Ukraine has come at a tough time for Kyiv: Russia's bigger army is making a concerted push on parts of the roughly 1,000-kilometer (620-mile) front line and is intensifying long-range drone and missile attacks that increasingly hammer civilians in Ukrainian cities. Washington has been Ukraine's biggest military backer since Russia launched a full-scale invasion of its neighbor on Feb. 24, 2022. But the Trump administration has been disengaging from the war, and no end to the fighting is in sight, despite recent direct peace talks. Specific weapons needed from U.S. Amid recurring concerns in Kyiv about how much military support its allies can supply and how quickly, Ukraine has raced to build up its domestic defense industry. The country's output has gradually grown, especially in the production of more and increasingly sophisticated drones, but Ukraine needs to speedily scale up production. Crucially, some high-tech U.S. weapons are irreplaceable. They include Patriot air defense missiles, which are needed to fend off Russia's frequent ballistic missile attacks, but which cost $4 million each. That vital system is included in the pause, and many cities in Ukraine, including Kyiv, could become increasingly vulnerable. A senior Ukrainian official said Thursday that Patriot systems are 'critically necessary' for Ukraine, but U.S.-made HIMARS precision-guided missiles, also paused, are in less urgent need as other countries produce similar assets. 'Other countries that have these (Patriot) systems can only transfer them with U.S. approval. The real question now is how far the United States is willing to go in its reluctance to support Ukraine,' he told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because of sensitivity of the subject. The official said that Patriot missiles exist in sufficient numbers globally, and he said that accessing them requires political resolve. 'There are enough missiles out there,' he said, without providing evidence. He also stated that Ukraine has already scaled up its domestic production of 155 mm artillery shells, which were once critically short, and is now capable of producing more than is currently contracted. 'Supplies from abroad have also become more available than before,' he said. Backup plan Amid at times fraught relations with U.S. President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been enlisting greater European help for his country's arms manufacturing plans. European countries don't have the production levels, military stockpiles or the technology to pick up all the slack left by the U.S. pause, but Zelenskyy is recruiting their help for ambitious joint investment projects. Draft legislation to help Ukrainian defense manufacturers scale up and modernize production, including building new facilities at home and abroad, will be put to a vote in the Ukrainian parliament later this month, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov announced this week. Zelenskyy said last month that major investments will go to the production of drones and artillery shells. 'The volume of support this year is the largest since the start of the full-scale war,' he said about commitments from foreign countries. Under Trump, there have been no new announcements of U.S. military or weapons aid to Ukraine. Between March and April, the United States allocated no new help at all, according to Germany's Kiel Institute, which tracks such support. For the first time since June 2022, four months after Russia's full-scale invasion, European countries have surpassed the U.S. in total military aid, totaling 72 billion euros ($85 billion) compared with 65 billion euros ($77 billion) from the U.S., the institute said last month. Big battlefield problem Without Patriot missiles, as well as the AIM-7 Sparrow air-to-air missile and shorter-range Stinger missiles that are also included in the pause, Ukrainian cities likely will take a bashing as more Russian missiles pierce air defenses. On the front line, Ukrainian troops haven't recently voiced complaints about ammunition shortages, as they have in the past. They have always said that during the war, they have never had as much ammunition to as their disposal as Russian forces. The army faces a different problem: It's desperately short-handed. It's turning to drones to compensate for its manpower shortage, and analysts say the front isn't about to collapse. 'This is war — and in war, steady deliveries are always crucial,' he said. ___ Barry Hatton reported from Lisbon, Portugal. ___

Lyft (LYFT) Upgraded to Buy, Crowned TD Cowen's Top SMID-Cap Pick
Lyft Inc. (NASDAQ:LYFT) is one of the 20 undervalued momentum stocks that are taking off. On June 24, TD Cowen analyst John Blackledge upgraded Lyft Inc. to Buy from Hold, raising the price target from $16 to $21. Notably, he named Lyft his 'Best SMID-cap Idea' (small and mid-cap stock idea) for 2025. Blackledge pointed to several key factors behind his upgraded view. One of the main reasons was Lyft's focus on smaller U.S. markets. As per the analyst, cities such as Charlotte and Indianapolis showed over 30% year-over-year growth in Q1 2025, suggesting strength outside the company's traditional top-tier markets. A close-up view of a hand holding a smartphone, using a ride sharing app. International expansion was another reason. The analyst highlighted Lyft's planned acquisition of FREENOW, a European mobility platform, which is expected to contribute roughly €1 billion in annual gross bookings. Growth in Canada has also been notable, up 100% in 2024 and continuing with 50% growth in Q1 2025. The analyst also highlighted that product innovation and improved user experience are also supporting the company's growth. Blackledge pointed to initiatives such as Price Lock, which allows users to lock specific fares while helping Lyft build a base of recurring subscription revenue. The recent partnership with DoorDash is also driving user engagement and expanding the active rider base. Blackledge believes Lyft is executing well and doesn't need to gain market share from Uber, as it currently holds about 30% of the U.S. rideshare market, for its stock to perform. Over the long term, he sees upside from autonomous vehicles, which should expand the overall market opportunity. Lyft Inc. (NASDAQ:LYFT) is a leading ride-sharing and mobility-as-a-service company that connects passengers with drivers through its digital platform. The company operates in major cities across the U.S. and Canada, offering ride-hailing, bike and scooter rentals, and fleet management solutions. While we acknowledge the potential of LYFT as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk. Carnival's (CCL) Debt Reduction and Yield Growth Win BofA's Praise
Carnival Corporation & plc (NYSE:CCL) is one of the 20 undervalued momentum stocks that are taking off. Bank of America Securities analyst Andrew Didora has reiterated a Buy rating on Carnival Corp. following the company's better-than-expected Q2 FY 2025 results, which it announced on June 24. The price target remains unchanged at $31. Carnival delivered a strong performance in the second quarter (FY ends in November) with Q2 results substantially exceeding consensus, driven by higher net yields and solid cost control. This led to an upward revision in full-year EBITDA guidance by the company. These results also underpin the management's execution capabilities and ability to deliver on financial targets. Photo by Stephanie Klepacki on Unsplash For the second half of 2025, Carnival expects a stable performance which is in line with its earlier guidance. The upcoming launch of Celebration Key, a new private island destination, is expected to support yield growth and strengthen customer engagement. One of the key positives in Didora's view is Carnival's consistent progress on reducing debt. The company has also been focusing on improving its balance sheet and has progressed on this objective to a good extent. Such improvement should support investor confidence and long-term financial flexibility. Valuation also remains supportive. With the stock still trading below its historical average, BofA sees room for upside as Carnival continues to execute on both operational and financial fronts. Carnival Corporation & plc is the largest global cruise company and among the largest leisure travel companies. Its portfolio includes world-class cruise lines, including AIDA Cruises, Carnival Cruise Line, Costa Cruises, Cunard, Princess Cruises, and Seabourn. While we acknowledge the potential of CCL as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk.
