Russian FM says West would never secure victory against Kremlin by using Ukraine as proxy

Moscow, June 29 (UNI) Slamming the West, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Sunday that they would never be able to secure a strategic victory over Russia by using Ukraine as a proxy, reports Russia's state-owned-media TASS.
"We have very close ties in all areas, and they are of particular importance, especially in the current very difficult and radically changed international situation, when we are witnessing an unprecedented confrontation between our country and the collective West, which has decided once again to go to war against us and inflict a strategic defeat on Russia, using the Nazi regime in Kiev as a ram.
'The West has never been able to do this, and it won't work this time. They're probably starting to figure it out," Lavrov said during his meeting with Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubayev.
He added that Moscow is open for honest efforts to resolve the war, but it has to be a practical and realistic one, contrary to the 'rigged' approach of some European leaders, Sergey Lavrov said.
"As (Russian) President (Vladimir) Putin has said recently, we are ready to defend a just settlement of the Ukrainian crisis', stating that Moscow will is not open to the 'rigged approaches we are being pushed to, I would like to stress again, by some European leaders."
Lavrov went on to berate French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, alleging that both leaders lack common sense and are trying to reestablish France's and Germany's control over Europe.
"We are surprised to listen and look at spells sounded from European capitals. Macron and German Chancellor Merz have recently written a joint article, 'Europe must arm itself; Russia is the main threat, it wages imperialistic wars, it intruded into Georgia in 2008, into Crimea and Donbass in 2014, into the territory of entire Ukraine in 2022; the goal of Putin is to undermine European security," Lavrov said.
"I believe that these quotes alone are enough for a person who has some understanding of what is happening in Europe and follows events to understand that these people have completely lost common sense and are openly trying to return to the days when France and Germany wanted to conquer Europe, primarily the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union," he noted.

To curb drug smuggling Maha govt will bring amendment to MCOCA: CM Fadnavis

West Mumbai, July 2 (UNI) Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today announced that his government will bring in an amendment to the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) during the ongoing monsoon session of the assembly to curb drug smuggling. While replying to a question in the House, the chief minister said in the existing law Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 which deals with drug peddlers, the accused persons get bail in most of the cases and resume their criminal acts. So a strict law is required to curb such activities . The Chief Minister also said that a separate NDPS unit has been set up in every police station in the state and officers and other personnel have been appointed in it. Coordination committees have also been set up at the district level. He added that the police have taken action in a large number of cases over the last two and a half years. 'Not same as Swastika': Virgina enacts law to criminalize display of Nazi symbols; to prioritize ‘Hakenkreuz' instead

ANI file photo The state of Virginia in the US has enacted a new law criminalizing the display of Nazi symbols, marking a win for accuracy and religious freedom and equitable treatment for 'Dharmic communities' as per the Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA). Virginia has officially enacted the House Bill 2783 which distinguished between 'Hakenkreuz' the German word for 'Hooked Cross' and the sacred symbol of Swastika revered by many religions. 'The nuance in this law was the result of a united grassroots campaign from community leaders and Viriginia residents, alarmed at the terms of the original bill which had threatened prison terms for displaying a symbol that is almost ubiquitous in our temples and houses. This is the power of advocacy,' said ConHNA through a post on X. 'We are pleased to see how Virginia is tackling growing hate while being sensitive to minority groups that revere the Swastika', said the president of CoHNA. 'Now the need of the hour is for the media, law enforcement, and educational institutions in Virginia to update their language to reflect this critical nuance and ensure fair treatment for all,' he added. Initially, the bill had incorrectly equated the Nazi symbol to the Swastika, as per CoHNA. Despite concerns, the bill passed unanimously in the Virginia House of Delegates with a 97-0 vote. The billll also explicitly defines 'Nazi Swastika' is not the 'same as symbol of peace and prosperity used by Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Zoroastrianism, or Native American religions.' 'By explicitly delineating the legal status of the Swastika, the statute not only condemns and prohibits its misuse as a symbol of hatred, but also affirms and honors its sacred meaning within Hinduism and other Dharmic traditions. In doing so, the Commonwealth of Virginia sets a precedent for a more informed, respectful, and inclusive civic discourse', said Srilekha Palle a member of the Board of Directors at the American Hindu Coalition.

Russia and India look to expand cooperation in building warships

The largest Russian shipbuilding company has said it would like to participate in Indian defense indigenization efforts Moscow and New Delhi are looking to expand cooperation in naval construction, the head of the largest shipbuilding company in Russia has said. Speaking at the official handing-over ceremony of the frigate Tamal to the Indian Navy on Tuesday, United Shipbuilding Corporation Chief Executive Andrey Puchkov said Moscow was ready to assist New Delhi in its efforts to indigenize its naval hardware. "India is an old trusted friend, and we always try to deliver the best we have to our Indian friends," Puchkov said. "As you know, we have built a full series of ships for our Indian colleagues and today we have finished the batch built in Russia." The Tamal is the eighth Russian-made Krivak-class frigate to be delivered to India over the past two decades, and uses 26% Indian components. It was built at the Yantar shipyard in Kaliningrad, and its construction was monitored by Indian specialists from the Warship Overseeing Team, according to the Indian Defense Ministry. "We will continue providing all the needed equipment so that our friends can build ships indigenously as part of the 'Make in India' program, but this is only part of our work," Puchkov added. "We have a vast number of new ideas to bring to life, and I think that both the Russian and Indian sides are interested." Indian Navy officials have welcomed Russian participation in the Indian defense industry. "The name Tamal symbolizes the mythical sword used in battle by Indra, the King of Gods, which is also featured on the ship's crest," Sanjay J. Singh, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Western Naval Command said on Tuesday. "The ship's mascot is a combination of Jambavan, the immortal bear king of Indian mythology, and the Russian national animal, the Eurasian brown bear." India's military currently relies heavily on Russian-origin equipment, with around 60% of its arsenal being of Russian make. Last week, Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov and his Indian counterpart Rajnath Singh held talks on the sidelines of a Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting in China, discussing the supply of S-400 systems, Su-30 MKI upgrades, and procurement of critical military hardware. In December 2024, India received a Russian-built Project 11356 stealth frigate, INS Tushil. India is also building two similar frigates, which are part of the Triput class, at Goa shipyard, with transfer of technology and design assistance from Russia.
