IKEA Just Launched the "Smartest" Collection — And This is the One Thing I'm Buying ASAP
If you've been wanting to dive into the smart home lifestyle, but haven't done so because you just don't like the way all those techy devices look, I've got good news for you. Just months after announcing the end of its SONOS speaker collaboration, IKEA's popular smart home lineup is getting a major overhaul — and you can buy one of these aesthetically pleasing yet affordable new devices right now. Get ready to go way beyond KALLAX hacks and into fully integrated living.
IKEA confirmed it'll be releasing 20 new offerings over the next few months in a press release on Wednesday, July 9. Fans can look forward to a new generation of Matter-over-Thread-compatible sensors, smart lights, remotes, and, most importantly, speakers, that will roll out in the coming months. (For the uninitiated, Matter and Thread are smart home standards. Matter 'is the language that smart home devices speak,' while Thread 'is the network they use to communicate,' per MatterAlpha.com.)
For the non-techy folks, this can all sound like confusing tech babble. But it's not — IKEA says this move will make its smart home products easier to use for anyone, so you can simply 'plug and play.' The best part? The IKEA DIRIGERA smart hub now allows you to connect your IKEA tech with other branded products (such as Apple, Amazon, Google, and Samsung) that you already own, making your entire home's smart system much more integrated and seamless.
Drumming up the excitement early, IKEA gave buyers a preview of its brand-new smart home lineup by releasing its NATTBADD Bluetooth Speaker on July 9 — and the retro yet futuristic design costs less than $50.

Despite its futuristic appearance, the new NATTBADD Bluetooth Speaker is designed to look like a vintage radio while featuring all the state-of-the art capabilities that you'd expect from your Bluetooth speaker. Available for just $49.99, the NATTBADD Bluetooth Speaker comes in either a canary yellow (my personal favorite colorway) as well as a black or nude hue depending on the vibe of your home.
Shaped with a half-moon design on top and a square base, the compact speaker won't take up much space with its 7-inch height, nearly 5-inch width, and just under 4-inch length. However, the simplicity of the design (there are just two buttons in the front) is misleading, because you can simply tap a button to zero in on the Spotify Tap functionality, or opt to go into multi-speaker mode to connect to other NATTBAD speakers around your space.
IKEA fans who are looking for a speaker with a little pizzazz will want to wait out for the BLOMPRAKT Speaker with Light, which will be rolling out in October. The table speaker looks like a light blue sci-fi-inspired lamp at first glance, but you can also use it to play your favorite music without taking up any extra space on your desk or bedside table.
In addition to the BLOMPRAKT Speaker with Light's release in October, IKEA will be rolling out a new line of speakers in collaboration with Swedish designer Tekla Severin in January 2026. IKEA of Sweden's David Granath told The Verge that the company will also be releasing new product categories next January and April.

Apple Slips As China Smartphone Shipments Fall
Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) slipped to fifth as China smartphone shipments dropped 4% in Q2. China's smartphone market shipped 69 million units in Q2, down 4% year over year after six consecutive quarters of growth, according to preliminary IDC data. Apple shipped 9.6 million iPhones, down 1.3% year over year, holding a 13.9% market share compared with 13.5% a year ago. WASHINGTON (Reuters) -American companies rolled out a series of big ticket AI and energy investment pledges on Tuesday, part of a push by U.S. President Donald Trump to maintain America's edge in the booming technology sector. Here are some of the biggest announcements timed around the Energy and Innovation Summit at Carnegie Mellon University, which is expected to include $90 billion in investments in and around Pennsylvania. Alphabet-owned Google has struck a $3 billion deal with Brookfield Asset Management for electricity generated from two hydropower facilities in Pennsylvania. The tech giant will also invest $25 billion in data centers across Pennsylvania and neighboring states over the next two years, Semafor reported on Tuesday. Asset management firm Blackstone plans a $25 billion investment in data centers and energy infrastructure in Pennsylvania, its President and Chief Operating Officer Jon Gray told a panel at the summit. On Monday Meta Platforms Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg said his company would spend hundreds of billions of dollars to build several massive AI data centers, including a multi-gigawatt data center dubbed Prometheus, which is planned for Ohio. Cloud infrastructure technology company CoreWeave plans to spend up to $6 billion on building a new artificial intelligence data center in Pennsylvania, the company said on Tuesday. The pledges come amid a surge in investments for AI startups, a sign that the field continues to thrive even as venture capital firms are struggling to raise money, a report from PitchBook on Tuesday showed.

Apple's AirPods Pro are great, no question. But if you're not a fan of those silicone tips, the just-updated 4th-generation AirPods 4 might be a better fit. They ditch the tips but keep all the essentials: crisp sound, water resistance, solid battery life and hands-free Siri. Right now, they're just $90 — only a buck above the lowest price we've seen. These are Apple's newest non-Pro earbuds, with Personalized Spatial Audio, a more secure fit and a MagSafe case with Find My. AirPods are some of the most sought-after earbuds on the market, and this sale makes them a lot more attainable. While they sometimes dip below $120, this is the lowest they've ever dropped outside of Prime Day, during which they were only a dollar cheaper. If you don't like that feeling of having something wedged in your ear and don't need active noise cancellation (ANC), these buds are the way to go. They've gotten a bit of a makeover from previous generations. The shorter stem gives them a cleaner look, and the new quick-press controls mean no more fumbling to pause your tunes or take a call. Plus, they fit better and stay put, so you won't have to keep adjusting them while you're at the gym or running to catch the train. I use an iPhone, iPad, iMac and MacBook Pro daily, so my AirPods rarely leave my ears. While their utility extends beyond the Appleverse — they also pair perfectly fine with Android smartphones or tablets, as well as Windows laptops and desktops — you do lose out on a lot of the features that make these headphones special. AirPods 4 share quite a bit of tech with AirPods Pro, including an H2 chip, spatial audio, a wireless charging case with speaker (and USB-C charging port) and the new Head Gestures feature, which allows you to take or decline calls with a quick move of the head. And if you're caught in the rain or sweating through a tough workout, no worries — they're rated IP54 for dust, sweat and water resistance. These AirPods have over 8,400 five-star fans, and over 10,000 pairs have been snapped up in the past month. "I had some off-brand [headphones] that sounded AMAZING, but they never automatically connected and were less of an easy experience," recalled a would-be bargain hunter. "The AirPods just WORK the way you expect them to, which I missed, and am so glad I have again." "I never understood the hype around expensive earbuds and always stuck with cheaper ones," began one convert, "but my husband got me these AirPods for Christmas, and now I get it! These are a total game-changer. They're super comfortable and don't hurt my ears, even after wearing them for long periods. The sound quality is amazing, and the personalized spatial audio makes everything sound so immersive." Said this five-star fan: "The lightweight earbuds sit comfortably in your ears for extended listening sessions, and the intuitive controls make it easy to adjust volume, skip tracks and activate Siri. ... If you're an Apple user looking for a seamless audio experience, these earbuds are definitely worth considering." I concur with this "con"-trary customer's quibble: "I think that it's very cheap of Apple that they don't include the proper charging cable or the USB plug. Apple products are so expensive; you should be able to use the products immediately. Instead, I have to go pay more to get a charging cable." I'll give the last word to Yahoo Senior Tech Writer Rick Broida, who cautioned: "It ... bears mentioning that Android users are almost certainly better off with something other than AirPods, which would serve as little more than 'dumb' earbuds when paired with those phones."
