A big decision has been made by one of the top players from the Florida Panthers. Just one day before NHL free agency opens, fans were unsure what his next move would be. There were rumors, but no official word.
Now, everything is clear. The Florida Panthers have locked in one of their most important names, and it's a big move for the team and the player heading into the new season.
Aaron Ekblad signs eight-year deal to stay with Florida Panthers
On Monday, July 1, 2025, Florida Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad agreed to an eight-year contract extension with the team. The deal is worth $6.1 million per season, keeping him in Florida through 2033. ESPN and TSN both confirmed the news. Ekblad, 29, was set to become an unrestricted free agent on Tuesday but chose to stay with the team instead.
Ekblad has been with the Panthers since 2014, when he was picked first overall in the NHL Draft. Over 10 seasons, he's scored 118 goals and 380 points in 732 regular-season games. Though his point totals have dropped in the last two years, his role remains important. He plays more than 23 minutes per game and is trusted on both the power play and penalty kill.
This past season, Ekblad was suspended for 20 games after violating the NHL/NHLPA performance enhancement substances program.

That suspension carried into the playoffs. But once the playoffs started, he came back strong. He scored four goals and 13 points in 19 games as the Panthers won their second straight Stanley Cup title. The final win came against the Edmonton Oilers.
Aaron Ekblad's new deal keeps Panthers' core together
Aaron Ekblad's contract is another sign that Florida wants to keep its top players. Earlier this month, general manager Bill Zito also signed Sam Bennett to an eight-year, $64 million contract.
Bennett won the Conn Smythe Trophy this year as the most valuable player in the playoffs.
According to PuckPedia, the Panthers now have around $4.9 million left in salary cap space for the 2025-26 season. Fans are now waiting to see if forward Brad Marchand will also get a new deal.

Brad Marchand was added at the trade deadline and scored 10 goals and 20 points in 23 playoff games. Aaron Ekblad's decision means the Panthers' blue line will stay strong for years to come.

Earlier, in April, the BCB had announced the itinerary for India's visit, which included three ODIs on August 17, 20, and 23, followed by T20Is on August 26, 29, and 31, with matches planned in Mirpur and Chattogram. Jonathan Owens wins hearts with impactful youth camp as Simone Biles quietly supports from the sidelines

Jonathan Owens youth camp impact (Image credits: Instagram/X) NFL safety Jonathan Owens returned to his roots, not to be celebrated, but to give back. His free youth football camp, hosted at his alma mater, wasn't about fame or fanfare—it was about presence, purpose, and passing on lessons he once needed. As dozens of kids ran drills, Owens ran with them. The impact wasn't loud, but it was deeply felt. From NFL player to on-field mentor What separated this camp from countless others wasn't the structure—it was the man leading it. Owens didn't just oversee the stations; he coached every step, often sprinting beside young athletes, guiding form, offering pointers, and encouraging effort. Instagram stories captured him 'instructing with his own hands,' reinforcing that his involvement wasn't symbolic—it was sincere. Parents and onlookers quickly took to social media to express their gratitude. Not with vague praise, but with heartfelt thanks. Owens didn't outsource inspiration; he delivered it personally, with a focus on humility, resilience, and accountability. This wasn't a performance—it was mentorship in motion. Simone Biles ' silent support let the spotlight stay on the kids In the background was someone used to the global spotlight—Simone Biles, one of the most decorated athletes in history. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like SNS에서 화제인 그 팔찌, 예쁜데 의미까지... 굿네이버스 더 알아보기 Undo But this time, she intentionally stayed out of the limelight, letting her husband's efforts take center stage. Her presence was quiet but meaningful, helping underscore that the camp wasn't about celebrity. American RJ Michelle Mishelae Proctor reflected on the event with joy, writing: '@joowens camp today was amazingly organized and fun for the youth! Thanks for giving back to the kids! Loved seeing wifey @simonebiles showing support! Y'all are too cute.' The couple's team spirit kept the focus where it belonged—on the children. Families applaud Owens for personal investment, not just participation Praise poured in from parents whose children left with more than just goodie bags—they left with belief. One parent shared, 'Thanks for allowing my three boys to be a part of your camp today. They had a great time and learned valuable skills! Continued blessings for you @jowens @cbchighschool.' Another echoed the sentiment in simple but powerful words: 'Thank you @jowens for giving back to the youth today…my kid enjoyed it.' This wasn't just another youth camp—it was a carefully built experience. Supported by the Jonathan Owens Foundation, the event showed how authenticity and effort can outshine flash.
