FORMULA ONE will have two Grand Prix events in Spain next year following the announcement of the 2026 calendar.
The last time the country did this was between 2008 and 2012.

The first was in Barcelona which remains a host for next year, while the second host - rather than Madrid - was Valencia for the European Grand Prix was the Valencia Street Circuit.
Located near the port of Valencia, the F1 track record at the 3.4-mile circuit was set by Timo Glock in 2009 with a time of 1:38.683, though Fernando Alonso was the last race winner at the circuit.
However, the track was far from popular with drivers for its mundane layout and eventually a lack of interest and funding saw F1 move away.
The deal to bring it to F1 had allegedly been part of an election promise between former F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone and Valmor Sport group, led by former motorcycle racer Jorge "Aspar" Martínez and Villarreal CF's president Fernando Roig.

But when Valmor went bankrupt through taking care of all the costs involved in running the races, the tracks seven-year deal was cut down to five and dug a financial hole worth £255million in debt.
An estimated £87m is said to have been paid to Ecclestone, while there were also considerable costs for the construction of the circuit, television broadcasting and various invoices related to the organisation.
All told, the Generalitat Valenciana had to fork out a bill of more than £85m to cover the losses.
And the circuit itself has been left in a state of disrepair after being closed in 2013.

Some of it was converted back to walkways for the public.
But the majority of the track looks like something out of an urban jungle.
One of F1's most recognisable voices reveals Leclerc and Hamilton moments that will live with him forever
Weeds have overtaken the slip roads on the site, rust has taken root on old safety barriers, and access tunnels have been flooded.
Buildings on the site look every hour of their age, with a repurposed 19th-century warehouse showing signs of needing a major paint job.
The track itself has not fared much better, with heaps of rubbish seen lying across it while weeds and plants grow out from under the kerbs of the circuit.
Pit markings and tyre burns can also be seen over what was not cleared away, while there is even still some evidence of race sponsors from never-removed hoardings to painted pavement which has faded over time.
Thieves have also had their way with what was left at the site.
Anything valuable that might have been left over from the days of F1 has been gutted out.
There was hope for the site in 2022 when an investment group was in talks with the City Council to reclaim the space, turning it into housing and flats for residents.

Lando Norris shares kiss with on-off model girlfriend Margarida Corceiro following Hungarian Grand Prix win - a day after going public again

Lando Norris delivered a masterclass at the Hungaroring, holding off team-mate Oscar Piastri to claim victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Brit notched his fifth win of the 2025 season and a vital haul as he closed the championship gap to just nine points going into the summer break. Norris celebrated the result by planting a celebratory kiss on his long-time on-and-off girlfriend Margarida Corceiro, as the Portuguese model looked on proudly in parc ferme after the race. After months away from the public eye, the pair returned to the paddock again on Saturday, turning up together before qualifying. Norris and Margarida attended events together throughout much of 2024 before reports claimed that the pair had ended their short-term relationship. Speculation emerged that the pair were dating again after they were spotted together at various public events over the last year including the Monte Carlo Masters in April 2024. Margarida sat alongside Norris' mum, Cisca Wauman, to cheer on her other half to victory at the Monaco Grand Prix back this May, causing dating rumours to heat up again. Margarida, 22 hails from Santarem in Portugal and has amassed a colossal social media following, boasting over two million Instagram followers and more than 800,000 fans on TikTok. As an actress, she has appeared in Portuguese television dramas and is regularly featured in campaigns, including stints for Intimissimi and Alo Yoga. Margarida was a contestant in the country's version of Dancing with the Stars back in 2020. She also co-founded the eco-conscious swimwear brand Missus and has graced the pages of Vogue Portugal. Previously romantically linked with Portuguese footballer Joao Felix from 2019 to 2023, Margarida began dating Norris in May 2023, shortly after his split from Portuguese model Luisinha Oliveira. They had dated for a similar timeframe as Norris and Margarida before ending their romantic association, with the McLaren main man at the time posted a heartfelt break-up message on social media. 'After time and consideration, Luisa and myself have mutually decided to end our romantic relationship but remain good friends,' Norris posted at the time of his split from Luisinha. In August 2024, at the time of the Dutch Grand Prix, Norris appeared to confirm that he was single. When asked if he wanted a dog he said cooly: 'I don't have time for a dog. If I do, I need a girlfriend, I don't have one.' But now, the couple have settled their difference and are back on. On track, Norris still sits second in the Drivers' Championship with 250 points, just 16 points adrift of his team-mate Oscar Piastri as the season hits mid-point. Meanwhile, McLaren are runaway leaders in the Constructors' Championship, leading Ferrari in second by 268 points as they seek back-to-back titles.

Hamilton casts doubt over future in F1 after poor finish for Ferrari in Hungary

Lewis Hamilton gave a remarkably downbeat response, prompting questions about his future in Formula One, after he managed only 12th place in the Hungarian Grand Prix, won by McLaren's Lando Norris, the former world champion suggesting he was in no little turmoil and that he would 'hopefully' return when F1 resumes after the summer break. Having qualified in 12th place in Budapest, describing the performance as 'absolutely useless' and stating that Ferrari should find another driver, he appeared equally unimpressed with his drive to 12th place in the race on Sunday. Afterwards he gave a dejected reply when asked about his comments from Saturday. 'When you have a feeling, you have a feeling,' he said. 'There is a lot going on in the background that is not great.' He did not elucidate on whether the issues were personal, or related to his career and Ferrari, but when asked if he was disillusioned with racing said: 'No, I still love it, I still love the team.' He was, however, unusually unengaged after the race at the Hungaroring. He gave monosyllabic answers to questions and when asked why, said: 'I have got nothing else to say.' He leaves the paddock on tenterhooks with the summer break beginning and the next round not until the Dutch GP on 31 August, about which he was similarly cryptic. He was 'very much' looking forward to the break, but when asked if he would be driving at the next round, was less equivocal: 'I look forward to coming back … Hopefully I will be back, yeah.' His Ferrari team principal, Fred Vasseur, maintained that his driver was just disheartened by a tough weekend. 'I don't need to motivate him, honestly, he's frustrated, but not demotivated,' he said. 'I can perfectly understand the situation. He's demanding. But that's why he's a seven-time world champion. 'He's demanding with the team, with the car, with the engineers, with the mechanics, with myself but first of all, he's very demanding with himself. I can understand the frustration from Lewis. This is normal. He will come back.' Hamilton's former team principal at Mercedes, Toto Wolff, also felt he would bounce back. 'Lewis is wearing his heart on his sleeve. It was very raw what he said [on Saturday], he was hard on himself,' Wolff said. 'We have seen it before when he felt he had not met his own expectations. He's been that emotionally transparent since he was a young adult. 'Lewis has unfinished business in Formula One. You ask me if he still has it? He definitely has it.'
