Tommy Fury's boxing return gone the 'wrong way' says rival

Daily Record15-05-2025
After nearly two years away from the sport, the former Love Island star returned to the boxing ring last week, but many were left unconvinced by his performance.
Tommy Fury returned to the boxing ring last week following a near on two-year hiatus. Although he was raring to go, many people have been left unconvinced at his return.
His critics included Darren Till, who has taken a swipe at his rival a few months after their scheduled boxing showdown was scrapped. Tommy, younger brother to Tyson Fury, made his highly-anticipated return to the sport last week.

As reported by the Mirror, Tommy, know as 'TNT' in the ring, cruised to a points victory over Kenan Hanjalic in Budapest, Hungary, on Friday.

It was the former Love Island star's last match since October 2023 when he defeated social media sensation KSI.
Despite the win, many were left underwhelmed by his performance, including Till, who Tommy withdrew from fighting after he threatened to kick him in the head during the match.
In an interview with All Out Fighting, Till, 32, didn't hold back his words when discussing Tommy Fury 's latest victory and their cancelled match.
The ex-UFC title challenger said: "Tommy has got his own agenda and his own narrative on the situation in terms of… Tommy seems to think that I blew my chance to make a lot of money or something like that.
"I've got a business outside of fighting making millions a month. That's the serious truth of it. I don't need the money from Tommy. Am I doing this for the money? 100 per cent, but am I going to beg Tommy for the fight with him? He's an after thought for me. If the fight comes along and the money is alright, sound, but Tommy is in Hungary fighting and I'm in England fighting on Misfits. I think we know who's going the wrong way and who's going the right way."

Regarding a future showdown with Fury, while Till insists there is unfinished business with the reality star and sportsman, he certainly won't be crying himself to sleep if the fight never gets rebooked. "Yeah, but there's unfinished business with Jorge Masvidal who knocked me out, but I'm not going to lose sleep over it," said Till.
As Till prepares for his upcoming showdown with Darren Stewart on Friday night, it seems as if Fury is targeting a future rematch with Paul. Speaking after his win last week, Tommy said: "Jake Paul's a b**** and he's running scared. Hey, Jake, the hand is fixed now, the hand is fixed. I fought a guy in here tonight who has had over 100 amateur fights.
"He's experienced as f*** and he's as tough as teeth. If Jake Paul wants to step inside this ring, I guarantee you next time I will knock him spark out. I've had two years out of the ring, this is me after two years. I will knock that bum out whenever he wants it."

Diogo Jota made heartbreaking phone call hours before tragic crash

Liverpool star Diogo Jota spoke on the phone with the president of his boyhood club, Gondomar SC , just hours before his tragic death. The Club's president revealed that Jota was 'going through a happy moment' on the call. Portuguese international Jota, 28, died alongside brother Andre Silva, 26, in a tragic car accident on the A-52 motorway in Zamora province, Spain. The pair were reportedly on the way to the port of Santander to catch a ferry back to England after Jota was advised not to fly in light of recent lung surgery. The Lamborghini they were travelling in veered off the road at 12:30am local time after what is suspected to be a tyre blowout while overtaking. Both men died at the scene with the vehicle catching fire. Now the Mirror reports, that hours before their tragic crash Jota made one last phone to Gondomar SC president Alvaro Cerqueira. Cerqueira told JN: "It was just after 10pm last night [Thursday], we were on the phone and he was fine. "We spoke almost every week, and I know he was going through a happy moment. When Diogo needed to train during the off-season, he would ask to come here, and we would always make everything available. "His brother would usually come too, and they would both train. It is difficult to talk at a time like this, but what will remain is the image of two very humble people, who leave a huge void." Jota started his career at Gondomar FC, a club based outside the Portuguese city of Porto in an area he called home. Jota had returned to Gondomar over the summer to marry long-term partner Rute Cardose, with whom he had three children. He and his brother's funeral is set to take place at 10am on Saturday morning. A wake is due to take place at Sao Cosme Chapel before a funeral service at the Igreja Matriz de Gondomar. Countless tributes have been paid to the late Liverpool star, from ex-team-mates, managers, clubs and fans alike. Mourners have gathered at Anfield, leaving behind flowers and tokens of their admiration. Reds captain Virgil van Dijk was one of many to release a message remembering Jota, as he wrote on Instagram: "Man, I can't believe it, I don't wanna believe it. Absolutely devastated and in total disbelief. What a human being, what a player, but most importantly what an unbelievable family man. "You meant so much to all of us and you always will! For your family to lose two sons, a husband and a father is just unimaginable. So cruel and unfair. My heart is breaking for all of your beautiful family, for Rute and for your kids. "I promise you that in these difficult times and beyond we will always be there for your family. A champion forever, number 20 forever. It's been a privilege to have stood by your side on the pitch, and to have been your friend off it. We will miss you beyond words and never forget you. Your legacy will live on, we will make sure of it! Rest in perfect peace Diogo & Andre."

Diogo Jota's 'sweet words' to girl told 'football is not for women'

People have been left in awe after hearing the "touching words" football player Diogo Jota said to a little girl who was told "football isn't for women". The Liverpool and Portugal star died in a car crash aged just 28 alongside his brother Andre Felipe in Zamora near Spain's north-west border with Portugal at around 12.30am local time on Thursday. The tragedy occurred days after Jota married his childhood sweetheart, Rute Cardoso - who had to identify her husband and his brother after the devastating crash. Since his death, tributes have flooded in and stories have also emerged about how kind he was. One such story that's been told involves how much he supported women in sport, and how he wanted his children to have good "role models" to look up to, reports the Mirror. On Facebook, Her Sport wrote: "We don't often post about men's sport, but today, we're making space. At Liverpool FC, whenever there was a campaign about women or keeping girls in the game, Diogo Jota showed up. Not because he had to, because he understood WHY it mattered. "Last year, he sat beside Ireland's Leanne Kiernan on International Women's Day and lent his voice to a message bigger than football. He spoke about the women who raised him, he spoke about his partner and the support she gives him. "He glowingly mentioned Marta and Serena Williams as the kind of role models he hopes his daughter and his sons will grow up admiring. We believe everyone has a duty to care about equality and equity. Jota understood that and acted on it."A devastating loss for his family, his teammates and everyone who saw the strength of his character beyond the game. Rest in peace, Diogo and Andre." The post inspired many people to share their stories and thoughts online, with one being particularly touching. A mum replied, saying: "After my littlest got picked on at school for being a girl who loves football, just the typical phrases - 'football isn't for girls' etc, Diogo noticed her waiting for him and spoke with so much respect and told her how important it was for her to stick [at it] and grow to be a role model to other little girls like his little girl! He was always a gentleman, too soon." Another wrote: "Thank you for highlighting this side of him." A third replied: "RIP Diogo and Andre. Diogo spoke well about women and girls in sport and in life - he praised his partner, now wife, for being a strong woman in her own right - they will be missed. " Thoughts with all the family losing both brothers, his wife and children and all friends and extended family." Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: "That's a testament to the person, husband and father he was. RIP Diogo." Tributes have poured in within the footballing world too, with many struck by grief at the heartbreaking news. Liverpool led the tributes to the forward, and various clubs, teammates and players shared emotional posts too. Jota started his career with Pacos de Ferreira before moving to Atletico Madrid, Porto and Wolverhampton Wanderers. He spent three years with Wolves before moving to Liverpool in 2020. Jota made 182 appearances for the Reds, scoring 65 goals. Liverpool FC's statement reads: " Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota. The club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre. "Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre's family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss. "We will continue to provide them with our full support." Scotland and Liverpool star Andy Robertson wrote: "The ones I'm thinking about most right now are the family. Their loss is too much to bear. I'm so sorry that they have lost two such precious souls – Diogo and Andre. "For the team and the club, we'll try to cope with this together… however long that takes. For me, I want to talk about my mate. My buddy. The bloke I loved and will miss like crazy. "I could talk about him as a player for hours, but none of that feels like it matters right now. It's the man. The person. He was such a good guy. The best. So genuine. Just normal and real. "Full of love for the people he cared about. Full of fun. "He was the most British foreign player I've ever met. We used to joke he was really Irish… I'd try to claim him as Scottish, obviously. I even called him Diogo MacJota. "We'd watch the darts together, enjoy the horse racing. Going to Cheltenham this season was a highlight - one of the best we had. "The last time I saw him was the happiest day of his life – his wedding day. I want to remember his never-ceasing smile from that magical day. How much he was bursting with love for his wife and family. "I can't believe we're saying goodbye. It's too soon, and it hurts so much. But thank you for being in my life, mate – and for making it better. Love you, Diogo." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
