Nine arrested in connection with three serious assaults in Wicklow
On Thursday, gardaí responded to a report of assault on Abbey Street in Arklow at approximately 4.20pm.
The victim man, a man in his 30s, was conveyed to St Vincent's University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Five men were subsequently arrested in connection with the assault and detained pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, at Garda stations in Wicklow and Wexford.
One of the men, who is in his 20s, has since been charged. He is due to appear before a special sitting of Bray District Court on Friday afternoon.
The four other men, who are aged in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, respectively, remain detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
On Monday, July 7, gardaí were alerted to a separate assault in Arklow where a man was seriously injured.
Two men, aged in their 20s and 40s, have been arrested in connection with the incident. They are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Garda stations in Wicklow.
Third assault
Finally, gardaí are continuing to investigate a third serious assault in Arklow which took place on Saturday, June 28.
Two people were arrested as part of the Garda investigation into this assault.
One man, aged in his 30s, appeared before Bray District Court on Monday, June 30.
In the wake of the Arklow assaults, gardaí searched a number of premises in the Wexford/Wicklow area on Friday morning.
The searches results in the seizure a quantity of suspected crack cocaine. The seized drugs will now be forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

Man arrested after MDMA tablets worth €235,000 seized in Monaghan
MDMA tablets worth €235,000 have been seized in Co Monaghan. The ecstasy tablets were recovered from a residential property in Monaghan following a search earlier today. A man in his 20s was arrested at the scene and is currently being detained at a station in the northwest of the country. The drugs seized will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis. The operation was carried out by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, Monaghan Divisional Drugs Unit and Revenue officers.
