Taiwanese actress Michelle Chen wept during Singapore pop star Stefanie Sun's concert at Beijing's National Stadium.
The 42-year-old was among the 50,000 spectators who turned up for the Beijing leg of Sun's concert tour on June 13.
'She is my favourite Chinese-language female singer and I have waited for this concert for a very long time,' Chen wrote on Chinese social media platform Weibo on June 14 morning.
'I had a chance to watch it more than 10 years ago, but missed it due to work,' she wrote in Chinese. 'I didn't expect that it would be many years later before I got to watch her in concert.'
Sun, 46, kicked off her first world tour in a decade, titled Aut Nihilo, in April with four concerts in Singapore. She also performed in Shanghai later in April and Shenzhen in May.
'I wanted to cry the moment you appeared on stage, as you were part of my youth for many years,' Chen wrote. 'Fortunately, I cried for only half of the show as there were fast songs.'
The actress, who is best known for the Taiwanese coming-of-age romance film You Are The Apple Of My Eye (2011), then quoted part of the Chinese-language title of the movie in her post.
'During those years I listened to your songs, the songs felt like they were carrying one part of innocence, two parts of stubbornness and three parts of freedom,' she wrote. 'I found myself in the songs and pursued my dreams.'
The actress shared her concert ticket, two photos of herself at the event and two short videos of Sun performing.

Sun's concert at Beijing's National Stadium, which is nicknamed the Bird's Nest, was her first at the venue since her debut in 2000. Sun will be holding a second show there on June 15.
She became the fourth Chinese-language female singer to hold a concert at the stadium after Hong Kong's Karen Mok and G.E.M. as well as Taiwan's A-mei.

'Don't ask me how': Woman 'somersaults' down Changi Airport tube slide

A woman got flipped upside down while riding the tube slide at Changi Airport's Terminal 4. Stomper Anon alerted Stomp to a video of the incident posted on TikTok by user @sshhuuyyii on July 9. The post's caption said: "Don't ask me how, but I somersaulted down the slide. Buy your insurance." In the video, the woman enters the slide leg-first, but upon hitting the sides of the tube slide, she somehow flips upside down. She can be seen crashing into the sides of the slide on her way down, before exiting head-first. The woman is teary-eyed and visibly in pain after the accident. Her friends are seen tending to her afterwards and rubbing her forehead. Some netizens questioned why the woman entered the slide head-first, without realising the slide had caused her to "somersault" upside-down. Others claimed that the slide is catered for children. "Adult weight makes you slide faster than kids. I've seen kids playing there many times with no issue," one user commented. In May 2024, Chinese social media influencer Koey Har sustained injuries after riding the same slide.

New S$30 million members-only club Vanta to open in MacDonald House

[SINGAPORE] New members-only club, Vanta, will open in MacDonald House in December, after a S$30 million renovation. The club, which will span 16,000 square feet across two levels in the national monument, is initially targeting 1,000 members, with plans to gradually expand to 2,000. Touting itself as 'Singapore's most influential private members club, designed for the city's most discerning elites, visionary industry leaders and global influencers', its facilities will include a main salon, mezzanine, private dining rooms and a state-of-the-art golf simulator. Michelin-starred Canadian chef and TV personality, Alvin Leung (also known as 'Demon Chef') of Hong Kong's Bo Innovation, will curate the club's culinary programme. Meanwhile, a whisky, wine and sake programme featuring tastings of spirits, masterclasses with distillers and sommeliers and an immersive exploration of sakes is set to be a cornerstone of the club's identity. In addition, Vanta will hold art exhibitions, talks and cultural salons. Michelin-starred Canadian chef and TV personality, Alvin Leung, will curate the club's culinary programme. ILLUSTRATION: VANTA The club's chief executive officer, Wayne Lin, is a Chinese national with two decades of experience in the food and beverage (F&B), luxury hospitality and entertainment sectors in Chinese cities like Shenzhen and Guangdong, said Joanna Seet, Vanta's chief marketing officer. 'We've designed this club for individuals who are actively shaping conversations and leading change across industries,' said Lin. 'It will be a place where connoisseurs, especially those with a passion for whisky, wine and sake, can connect, collaborate and define what's next for business and culture.' 'While his roots are in nightlife, Andrew now contributes his operational expertise to helping elevate every aspect of the Vanta club experience,' Seet told The Business Times in response to queries. 'Vanta is positioned first and foremost as a luxury private social club, distinctly different from a nightlife concept.' Seet said the club will be centred on people and meaningful programming in a 'refined environment' for professional networking, cultural engagement and world-class dining. Vanta's partnership and business development director is Alex Chew, co-founder of members-only club, Madison Rooms, which opened at Coleman Street in 2016 but went into liquidation in 2019. Chew, whom Seet says has been instrumental in shaping Vanta's F&B programme, is also the former owner of one-Michelin-starred The Kitchen at Bacchanalia. The club has a joining fee of S$6,000, which will be waived during pre-opening, plus an annual fee of S$6,800. There are no monthly fees. Seet said Vanta's community will be 'carefully curated' to ensure a balanced mix of 'influential leaders' across all industries. Vanta's entry into the local members-only club scene comes on the heels of the collapse last month of another club, 1880. Since then, both Mandala Club and 67 Pall Mall have announced expansion plans, while the landlord and staff of the former 1880 will reopen it under a new name next month. Operators say private clubs are profitable businesses, with the debt-laden 1880's failure attributed to its aggressive expansion to Hong Kong and Bali.

Chinese actor Zhang Yiyang revealed to have been executed for murder of 16-year-old girlfriend , Entertainment News

Chinese actor Zhang Yiyang was recently revealed to have been executed by a firing squad in December last year for killing his 16-year-old girlfriend. He was 34 years old and is the first celebrity in China to have been handed a death sentence. According to a court document released by Xianyang, Shaanxi, his girlfriend surnamed Zhang - who was 15 years old when they first dated - had wanted to break up. Yiyang was opposed to it and threatened to kill himself during their quarrels. On Feb 26, 2022, he lured her into a forest in the guise of celebrating her birthday and cut her neck multiple times with a pocketknife, rupturing her carotid artery and windpipe. He then went home to change his clothes, before throwing them and her mobile phone into a river. The court document revealed he then tried to commit suicide in a hotel but was found by staff who called the police. The court sentenced him to death for intentional homicide, and he was executed on Dec 18, 2024. Yiyang's posthumous film Jie You Yin Sheng Guan premiered in March this year, and netizens recently took to Douban to give one-star ratings, criticising its release despite its lead actor being executed for murder. One netizen remarked: "The male lead actor was executed for murder, but the movie he starred in still premiered."
