The incident reportedly occurred during a commute from Marathahalli to JP Nagar 7th Phase around 8.24 pm on June 11.
The woman, Janhavi, shared a video of the confrontation on Instagram, which has since gone viral. In her post, she narrated the incident to raise awareness and urged the app-based aggregator to take action. What began as a routine commute, she said, quickly turned into a 'disturbing experience and nightmare.'

According to her account, the driver behaved suspiciously throughout the ride. "He was staring at me repeatedly through the rearview mirror in an uncomfortable, almost creepy way," Janhavi wrote. Sensing something was off, she alerted a friend via Snapchat, also noting that her phone battery was low.
To avoid being left without communication, she requested to pay the fare early. The driver allowed her to do so and even offered to charge her phone, which she handed over, a decision she later regretted.
The incident escalated around 9.40 pm when, just a kilometre away from her destination, Janhavi briefly stepped into a shop to buy coffee powder after a call from her mother. Upon exiting the store, she claims she caught the driver red-handed, trying to unzip her handbag, which had been left inside the auto.
'I saw him struggling to open the front zip of my bag. He didn't realize I was standing right behind him, watching everything,' she wrote.
When confronted, the driver allegedly claimed he was trying to move the bag for safety and later attempted to blame a nearby passerby for the attempted theft. Janhavi said she clarified the situation publicly and even involved the bystander to verify what had actually happened.
She recorded the confrontation on video, took note of the auto's registration number, and has filed a complaint with the app.
'This is NOT just about money. This is about trust, safety, and dignity. I shudder to think what could have happened if I hadn't returned in time,' she added in her post, tagging Rapido and urging the platform to take strict action against the driver and tighten background checks.
HT.com has reached out to Rapido for a statement and is currently awaiting a response.

Chandigarh: Armed men in ‘Nihang attire' attack Volvo bus driver, injure passenger, bike rider

A midnight incident of violence near Gaushala Chowk, Sector 44-45, left a Volvo bus driver assaulted, a passenger seriously injured, and a Rapido bike rider robbed by three men reportedly dressed in Nihang Sikh attire. According to police sources, the incident unfolded around 12 am on the intervening night of August 2 and 3, when Lakshay Thapar (33), a Rapido rider from Sector 15, Panchkula, was returning home after work. According to the FIR lodged at the police station in Sector 49, the trio of Nihang-clad men approached a moving Volvo bus, bearing Himachal Pradesh registration, and forced it to stop by pushing a motorcycle into its path. Eyewitness Lakshay told police that the moment the bus stopped, the attackers began abusing and assaulting the driver with sticks. When a passenger attempted to intervene, he too was attacked with swords and sticks, sustaining head and hand injuries. Lakshay, who tried to capture the attack on video, was reportedly threatened by sword-wielding men, and his mobile phone was forcibly snatched. He was also beaten with sticks before the assailants fled the scene, abandoning their black Splendor motorcycle. The injured passenger, identified as Pardeep Kumar (55), a resident of Anaj Mandi, Kurali, was shifted to the hospital by a PCR team. Lakshay, initially terrified, fled the spot but returned the next morning to lodge a formal complaint. The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The attackers meanwhile remain at large, and police are currently analysing CCTV footage and the abandoned motorcycle to trace their identities.

Two Killed, Six Wounded In LA After-Party Shooting; Police Investigation Underway

The identities of the deceased have not yet been fully released by police. Two people were killed and six others left injured in a shooting that occurred during an after-party in downtown Los Angeles overnight on Sunday. According to KTLA, the Los Angeles Police Department stated that the incident took place around 1 am on August 4. Authorities confirmed that the gunfire broke out near 14th Place and Griffith Avenue, an area reportedly hosting multiple parties at the time. Police had already patrolled the location earlier in the evening, around 11 pm, after observing an individual entering an unauthorised gathering. The LAPD said they cleared out the event, which had more than 50 people present. During that sweep, one attendee was arrested for carrying a firearm. Despite this intervention, officers were called back to the same venue following a radio alert about shots being fired. When they arrived, they found that eight individuals had been struck by gunfire. Two victims succumbed to their injuries, while six others were left wounded. One of the surviving victims is in critical condition, according to an LAPD spokesperson speaking with KTLA 5. 'It was pretty clear and loud… You knew that if those bullets landed in somebody, that they weren't walking away from the situation," said local resident Tyrone Laney in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. The identities of the deceased have not yet been fully released by police. However, officials confirmed that the victims included a man and a 52-year-old woman. One died at the scene, while the other was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital. Some of the injured victims were admitted to California Hospital Medical Center for treatment. One of the victims has been identified as 29-year-old Gregory Derisso, according to his father, Judner Derisso. He described Gregory as a dedicated music producer and the father of three young children, all under the age of five. As reported by the Los Angeles Times, the party was promoted online as an 'unofficial after-party" for the Hard Summer festival and featured house and techno music. An Instagram post advertising the event reportedly listed the names of DJs scheduled to perform. No arrests have been made so far. Investigators are still working to determine a motive for the shooting. Get breaking news, in-depth analysis, and expert perspectives on everything from geopolitics to diplomacy and global trends.
