Promise that Arne Slot made to Florian Wirtz that Bayern couldn't match was ‘decisive factor' in star picking Liverpool

FLORIAN WIRTZ reportedly chose Liverpool over Bayern Munich after being given an irresistible promise by Arne Slot.
The highly-rated German star was courted by both clubs but in the end the guarantee of the No10 role tipped the scales in the Reds' favour.

According to Caughtoffside, Wirtz revealed that the decision was ultimately made after Slot assured him he would be THE playmaker in his Liverpool team.
While Bayern offered him the prospect of competing in their world-class side, the path to regular first-team football was far from clear.
Jamal Musiala's rapid rise at the Allianz Arena and the presence of more established players such as Joshua Kimmich meant that Wirtz would have had to fight for his place in the midfield.
But at Liverpool, it is a different story - he would be the main man at Anfield.
The creative hub of the team, controlling the game from midfield and leading Liverpool's attack.
Slot promised Wirtz full control of the No10 role, a position that would be his alone.
This clear-cut offer of a starring role was a far cry from the uncertainty Bayern offered.
In the end Wirtz made his choice opting for the chance to be Liverpool's attacking leader.

The fact that Liverpool have won the Premier League in Slot's first season is also contributing factor as it has highlighted the manager's ability to bring the best out of young players.
The Dutch manager has been able to get the best out of both old and new faces with Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk enjoying stellar campaign as well as Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo

How close are Liverpool to a deal?
The Premier League champions have submitted a second improved bid for the Germany midfielder.
Liverpool's latest offer for the 22-year-old is about £109m, including add-ons.
Wirtz is a key target for the Merseyside club and has made his wishes clear about wanting to join Liverpool before next season.

Man Utd open to Andre Onana loan exit as Ruben Amorim identifies new No.1

Andre Onana has endured a tricky couple of seasons at Manchester United at Old Trafford and it appears that Ruben Amorim has finally decided what to do with him ahead of next term Manchester United are reportedly willing to sanction a loan move for Andre Onana after stumbling into a real issue regarding his future. The Cameroonian international has endured a tricky couple of seasons since his arrival from Inter Milan. High-profile errors have blighted his performances and put his position as number one in jeopardy. United are open to letting him leave and would apparently prefer a permanent sale. ‌ But Onana's high wages have made an exit this summer tricky and Red Devils chiefs are now having to get creative to move him on. According to The Sun, United are open to letting Onana leave on loan. ‌ Monaco - who have recently signed ex-United midfielder Paul Pogba - have been linked with a move but have struggled to get a deal over the line. It is said that United are now awaiting approaches and would prefer to send the 29-year-old to Europe as opposed to a Premier League rival. Speaking earlier this month, Onana appeared to hint that he was also open to an exit. He said: "Will I leave? I don't know, we'll see!" While Onana's future remains up in the air, United have already launched their search for a new number one. Aston Villa 's Emi Martinez remains their number one target but a deal for the 2022 World Cup winner is expected to be expensive. Other options include Botafogo's John Victor, Porto star Diogo Costa and Cruz Azul number one Kevin Mier. Former United stopper Ben Foster believes that Martinez would be the outstanding candidate should Onana be moved on. He said: 'It's a brutal league, the Premier League, and I kind of think [over] the last two seasons that he [Onana] hasn't done enough to prove that he is a Manchester United number one. ‌ 'I think he's got ability, and like so many other Man United players, he'd go elsewhere and probably flourish. I think that's probably going to be the case with him as well. If the opportunity does come to sign somebody like Emi Martinez, they've got to go for it. He's still one of the best goalkeepers in the world. 'A lot of people said this season, probably not up to the standard of the previous two years, but still one of the best goalkeepers in the world. 'You've got to have a strong spine in any football team. If you get the goalie right, you get a couple of strikers in, Bruno's going to be staying now. It's a great start to the transfer window for them.' Join our new MAN UTD WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Manchester United content from Mirror Football. Jurgen Klopp fires warning to Florian Wirtz over 'insane' £116m move to Liverpool... as ex-Reds boss gives his verdict on British record transfer

Jurgen Klopp has weighed in on Florian Wirtz 's 'insane' £116million move to Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen. The midfielder finally joined the Reds for a British record transfer fee earlier this month after a lengthy pursuit - which saw multiple bids rejected by Leverkusen - was drawn out for several weeks. Wirtz, 22, signed a five-year deal which will run through the summer of 2030, and he is expected to be a cornerstone in Arne Slot 's side for years to come. His first chance to impress in red may come just two weeks from now, with Liverpool set to face Preston North End in a pre-season friendly on July 13. After their run of friendlies, the Merseyside club will face Crystal Palace in the FA Community Shield final, before embarking on their Premier League title defence on the opening day of the 2025-26 season against Bournemouth at Anfield. But Klopp has cautioned Wirtz that if he doesn't start strongly, it will take only 'two or three games' for the pressure of his hefty transfer fee to start weighing on him. 'There's no question about it, it's an insane sum, and one that a player at Liverpool is aware of if things don't go well for two or three games,' the German veteran told Welt. 'We all agree that we're talking about a great player here. I know I once said that I'm out if we pay 100 million euros for a player. But the world is changing. That's just the way the market is. 'He's an outstanding player who can give any club something great. Whether he'll make the reigning English champions even better remains to be seen.' Klopp's comments are a touch more measured than when he broke his silence on Wirtz's transfer last week. He said then: 'This is going to be absolutely fantastic, I'm sure of it. 'It's very hard to strengthen a team when you're champions. But Liverpool have managed it.
