Two UnIPSAS students killed in Kuantan road crash
Acting Kuantan OCPD Supt Mohd Adli Mat Daud said the incident occurred at about 11am when the ambulance, which was transporting a patient, was travelling from Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) towards Bukit Rangin.
"As the van was making a right turn at the traffic light intersection with its siren on, a motorcycle approaching from the direction of Gambang collided with it,' he said in a statement on Tuesday.
The motorcyclist, Muhammad Zuhair Rifqi Abdul Jalil, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene, while his pillion rider, Muhammad Firdaus Mohamad Zamri, succumed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the HTAA Red Zone.
The 49-year-old ambulance driver and his 43-year-old assistant were also injured and are currently receiving further treatment at the hospital, he added.
Supt Adli said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Meanwhile, UnIPSAS, in a Facebook post, extended its condolences to the families of the two students and prayed that their souls would be blessed and placed among the righteous.
"The late Muhammad Zuhair Rifqi and Muhammad Firdaus were individuals of noble character who loved religious knowledge. Both were former students of Al-Irsyad Islamic Secondary School up to Form 3 and had successfully memorised all 30 juz of the Quran,' the university said.
The university added that the two students' passion for deepening their understanding of the Quran continued through their respective fields of study - a Diploma in Quran and Sunnah Studies and a Bachelor of Syariah with Judicial Administration (Honours).- Bernama

GOF nabs trio, seizes 75,500kg of crude palm oil
IPOH: The General Operations Force (GOF) North Brigade detained three men suspected of attempting to misappropriate 75,400kg of crude palm oil during Op Taring Palma in Taiping yesterday. Its commander SAC Shahrum Hashim said the three-hour operation also led to the seizure of two tanker lorries, one bonded lorry and three mobile phones, with an estimated total value of RM975,200. He said the team detected a suspicious tanker lorry in the area and trailed it to the side of Jalan Taiping-Bagan Serai. "Further investigation revealed that the suspects had transferred the crude palm oil from the tanker lorries to the bonded lorry. "An inspection found 10 blue drums with a capacity of 200 litres each in the bonded lorry, along with several tools used to transfer the crude palm oil," he said in a statement today. He said the suspects and the seized items were handed over to the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) Northern Region for further investigation under Regulation 5 of the MPOB (Licensing) Regulations 2005. Ex-IT officer loses RM180,000 in FB job scam
KUANTAN: A former information technology officer lost her savings and gratuity totalling RM180,789 after falling victim to a non-existent part-time job scam advertised on Facebook earlier this month. The 42-year-old woman was deceived into believing that she needed to invest a certain amount as capital to participate in the online job scheme but ended up losing all her money. Acting district police chief Superintendent Mohd Adli Mat Daud said the victim was told she only needed to work online from home and could earn lucrative returns. "The woman was enticed by promises of large payouts for simply completing online tasks. "She was instructed to log in and click on a system, and each time she completed a task, payments were supposedly credited to her account. "However, she was asked to make an initial payment to qualify for job assignments, and failure to do so would disqualify her from the position," he said in a statement today. The victim made 18 transactions totalling RM180,789 into 16 different bank accounts between July 6 and July 16, he said. Adli said the woman realised she had been scammed when the fraudsters continued pressuring her for more payments, despite her having completed several tasks and receiving no income. He said the victim lodged a police report today and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years, whipping, and a fine.
