RIYADH: Egypt's prime minister has instructed his government to prepare a package of investment opportunities for US firms, aiming to strengthen bilateral relations.
In a meeting with his Cabinet ministers, Mostafa Madbouly stated that several opportunities are available, particularly given the significant advantages offered by the country's government to foreign investors, according to Egypt's State Information Service.
Egypt is intensifying efforts to attract foreign direct investment as part of its broader economic reform agenda and Vision 2030 strategy for sustainable development.
Amid global headwinds and domestic economic challenges, the Egyptian government has launched several initiatives to deepen economic partnerships with major international players, notably the US.
One key milestone in this effort was the US–Egypt Policy Leaders Forum 2025, held in May, at which Madbouly announced that over 1,800 US companies are currently operating in the country, generating $47 billion in investments over the past two decades.
Discussing the latest Cabinet meeting, the Egyptian State Information Service reported that Madbouly 'highlighted the government's interest in supporting Egyptian-US relations in light of the strategic and historical ties between the two sides, noting the many opportunities for cooperation that could be exploited to support joint collaboration.'
The Egyptian prime minister added that his government is keen to remove all obstacles to joint cooperation, as well as to propose specific projects that will be discussed for collaboration in the upcoming period.
During the gathering, Egypt's Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel Al-Wazir, reviewed investment opportunities presented to US companies in sectors such as ports, maritime transport, and industrial zones.
Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation Rania El-Mashat outlined Egypt's development cooperation efforts with the US, highlighting successful collaborative programs that contribute to the country's development and further strengthen relations between the two sides.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Madbouly instructed all relevant authorities to coordinate on preparing a set of promising investment opportunities and to ensure they are presented to US companies, to boost foreign direct investment in Egypt.

In another major development, Al-Mashat announced that the country is in talks with Germany over a new debt swap agreement worth €100 million ($116.48 million), to be disbursed in two tranches.
The first tranche is expected in December 2025 and the second in June 2026, according to the north African country's State Information Service.
'These negotiations reflect the strength of Egyptian-German development cooperation and shared priorities in supporting sustainable development projects,' said Al-Mashat.
According to Egypt's Ministry of International Cooperation, the total value of debt swaps between Egypt and Germany would reach €340 million with this new agreement.

US targets Houthis with fresh sanctions

WASHINGTON: The US on Tuesday imposed sanctions on what it said was a Houthi-linked petroleum smuggling and sanctions evasion network across Yemen in fresh action targeting the militant group. The US Treasury Department in a statement said the two individuals and five entities sanctioned were among the most significant importers of petroleum products and money launderers that benefit the Houthis. 'The Houthis collaborate with opportunistic businessmen to reap enormous profits from the importation of petroleum products and to enable the group's access to the international financial system,' said Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Michael Faulkender. 'These networks of shady businesses underpin the Houthis' terrorist machine, and Treasury will use all tools at its disposal to disrupt these schemes.' Among those targeted was Muhammad Al-Sunaydar, who the Treasury said manages a network of petroleum companies and was one of the most prominent petroleum importers in Yemen. Three companies in his network were also designated, with the Treasury saying they coordinated the delivery of $12 million worth of petroleum products with a US-designated company to the Houthis. Since Israel's war in Gaza began in October 2023, the Houthis have been attacking vessels in the Red Sea in acts of solidarity with the Palestinians. In January, the US re-designated the Houthi movement as a foreign terrorist organization, aiming to impose harsher economic penalties in response to its attacks on ships.

France Urges Israel to Allow Independent Press into Gaza Strip

France called on the Israeli government to allow independent and foreign press into Gaza Strip amid mounting concerns of famine after 21 months of war, according to Le Monde. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot stressed the need of allowing free press into the besieged Strip to 'show what is happening there and to bear witness,' during an interview from eastern Ukraine. 'Since October 7, Israel has prohibited access to the Gaza Strip for all international journalists,' Barrot said. He also noted that the Palestinian freelance journalists it was working with were in danger. Thus, he urged Israel to allow them and their families to leave Gaza. When asked whether France would take a step to evacuate them, Barrot said that France was 'addressing the issue.' 'In this context, the work of our Palestinian freelancers is crucial to inform the world,' it said. But their lives are in danger, which is why we urge the Israeli authorities to allow their immediate evacuation along with their families,' he added. Call for Immediate Ceasefire Moreover, Barrot called for an 'immediate ceasefire' after Israel announced on Monday the expansion of its military operations to the central city of Deir El-Balah. 'There is no longer any justification for the Israeli army's military operations in Gaza,' he said. He also described the move as 'an offensive' that will exacerbate an already catastrophic situation and 'cause new forced displacements of populations.' Move toward Recognition of Palestinian State In May, Barrot said that France was 'determined' to recognize a Palestinian State and condemned Israel's 'indefensible' situation in Gaza. 'We cannot leave the children of Gaza a legacy of violence and hatred. So, all this must stop,' Barrot told France Inter radio. Moreover, French President Emmanuel Macron also accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government of committing 'shameful and disgraceful,' actions in Gaza. In a special television appearance broadcast on the TF1 channel, Macron noted that it is not for Netanyahu to decide whether this constitutes genocide, but rather for historians. 'What Benjamin Netanyahu's government is doing today in Gaza is unacceptable. It is shameful and disgraceful,' Macron said. During the interview, Macron stated that he was 'one of the few leaders who visited the Egypt-Gaza border.' He also described the situation as 'one of the most distressing sights I've ever witnessed.' Since the beginning of Hamas-Israel War in Gaza in 2023, the Israeli strikes have killed more than 57,000 Palestinians and wounded more than 137,000, according to Gaza's Health Ministry. US envoy to discuss finalizing Gaza aid ‘corridor': State Dept

WASHINGTON: The United States said Tuesday that it was sending an envoy to the Middle East for talks that aim to finalize a 'corridor' for aid to war-ravaged Gaza, where authorities said people are dying of starvation. Steve Witkoff, President Donald Trump's globe-trotting negotiator, is traveling to the region for new talks, State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce told reporters. Witkoff comes with 'a strong hope that we will come forward with another ceasefire as well as a humanitarian corridor for aid to flow, that both sides have in fact agreed to,' she said. Bruce declined to give further details on his itinerary or the corridor, saying that he was traveling around Gaza. She did not say how the diplomacy would relate to the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a controversial initiative backed by Israel and the United States that has seen chaotic scenes of troops firing on hungry Palestinians racing for food. The UN on Tuesday said Israeli forces had killed more than 1,000 Palestinians trying to get food aid since the GHF began its operations in late May, with most near the foundation's sites.
