OPEN// Sisi urges youths, families to focus on education aligned with digitized job market
The President made the remarks during his meeting with Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat and Director of the Egyptian Military Academy Lieutenant General Ashraf Salem Zaher.
Presidential Spokesman Mohamed El Shennawy said President El Sisi followed up on the latest pertinent to the 'Digilians" initiative with a focus on the executive procedures for joining. The initiative is to come into force by September 2025.
The procedures included the establishment of a registration platform, the completion of the technological and engineering preparations, and the necessary infrastructure to implement the initiative on time.
The minister of Communications and Information Technology explained that the initiative is open to all young men and women, from different academic and professional disciplines, and from all governorates.
The selection process will be conducted objectively. He also noted that the study will include multiple programs, including an intensive diploma, a specialized diploma, a professional master's degree, and an academic master's degree, all of which will be offered completely free of charge, including accommodation, living expenses, and training.
The curriculum will include a comprehensive set of technical, personal, linguistic, life and leadership skills, in addition to freelancing skills.
President Sisi also reviewed the initiative's tracks, including the development of students' technical skills.
Agreements are being concluded with international and local companies operating in Egypt to receive trainees in the initiative after completing the duration of theoretical study to acquire technical skills.
Furthermore, all trainees will be assisted in creating an account on freelancing platforms and securing practical projects.
President Sisi stressed the need to complete all the executive procedures related to implementing the initiative on time, while considering ways to expand the base of beneficiaries of the initiative to achieve a significant leap in the number and quality of trained personnel in the field of communications and information technology.
President Sisi also gave directives to cooperate with specialized entities in various technological sciences, both locally and internationally, to develop the linguistic, life, and leadership skills of Egyptian youth, in light of the state's strategy to build digital capabilities and technology-specialized cadres.
The president also emphasized the importance of continuing to implement digital transformation plans and further develop the state's technological infrastructure. (MENA)

He noted that IPIC's Port Said facility is fully operated by Egyptian professionals and benefits from the country's robust infrastructure, government support, and political stability—all essential ingredients for investment success. He also expressed appreciation for the ongoing support from the Ministry and Egyptian stakeholders, especially Petrojet, which played a key role in the project. The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to explore further expansion opportunities in line with Egypt's strategy to enhance local manufacturing and reduce dependency on imports. The Kuwaiti delegation affirmed its interest in increasing investment in Egypt, citing the country's favorable conditions for long-term industrial growth.

Plan underway to revitalise Egypt's silver industry amid fierce import competition
The Gold and Precious Metals Division at the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI) prepares a comprehensive strategy to revitalise Egypt's struggling silver industry. The plan will propose a series of measures to be submitted to the relevant authorities, as the sector grapples with growing reliance on imported silver products. In a statement issued on Friday, Ehab Wassef, head of the division, said many silver workshops across Egypt face significant obstacles that undermine their competitiveness. Chief among these is a shortage of skilled craftsmen, which he described as the backbone of an industry that depends heavily on manual dexterity and precision. Wassef highlighted another major challenge: intense competition from imported products, particularly those from China, Thailand and Turkey, which are sold at prices below local production costs, placing Egyptian workshops at a disadvantage. He explained that silver manufacturing is more labour-intensive than gold, as producing a single piece of silver requires roughly twice the effort, despite a gram of silver being about 65% the weight of a gram of gold. This makes the availability of skilled technicians critical to sustaining and growing the industry. According to Wassef, there is a determined push to expand domestic production and reduce reliance on imports. However, achieving this would require exempting imported production inputs from customs duties to lower operational costs and create fair competition. He also noted that Egypt currently lacks large-scale factories dedicated to silver production, with the sector largely comprising small and medium-sized workshops. To address this, the division is focusing on launching training programmes to produce new skilled technicians, alongside efforts to secure low-interest loans at a 5% rate. Wassef emphasised that Egypt's silver industry has considerable growth potential but needs tangible government support in the form of financing, easing regulatory burdens and fostering an environment conducive to training and production.

New EU regulation eases path for Egyptian potato exports
Egypt's Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation has announced the adoption of a new European regulation—Regulation No. 1289/2025—that facilitates the export of Egyptian table potatoes to EU markets. The move marks a major milestone in enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian agricultural exports globally. Mohamed El-Mansy, head of the Central Administration of Plant Quarantine, stated that the regulation was issued in accordance with directives from Minister of Agriculture Alaa Farouk, and under the supervision of Ahmed Essam, head of the Agricultural Services and Monitoring Sector. The regulation is expected to significantly improve the efficiency of Egyptian agricultural exports to international markets. El-Mansy noted that the updated framework is the result of coordinated efforts between Egypt's Plant Quarantine Authority, the Brown Rot Control and Survey Project, and the Supreme Committee for Potato Export Regulation at the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, in close collaboration with European partners. Key changes introduced in Regulation No. 1289/2025 include increasing the allowable shipment weight and reducing the number of samples required for inspection. 'These amendments will streamline the export process for Egyptian potatoes cultivated in brown rot-free zones,' said El-Mansy. 'They are also expected to lower the cost of sample analysis upon entry into the EU.' According to the ministry, Egypt's potato exports exceeded 1.3 million tonnes for the first time—a record that underscores the growing demand for Egyptian produce. The Plant Quarantine Authority is continuing efforts to expand export markets and ensure the smooth flow of agricultural goods worldwide. El-Mansy also expressed appreciation for all national and international stakeholders who contributed to drafting and finalizing the regulation. He emphasized that the new rules align with EU plant health standards and reinforce Egypt's standing as a key agricultural exporter to Europe.
