Mr Chiplen said people had travelled from across the country to see them perform."It is a tradition that actually probably goes back to medieval times, bringing in the May," he said.Jody was on hand to keep the dancers refreshed, he works for Cerne Abbas brewery.He said they have been given out free beer to thirsty crowds every May for the last 11 years."It's quite exciting having to get up at 04:00 to hike two casks up a really steep hill, but it's nice to see the people here," he said.

Tony from Poole was celebrating his 60th birthday at the morning event."All of my lovely family and friends have got up at 03:00. I tried to sell it to them as coming up the top of a hill and see a load of old men hitting sticks with a handkerchief and I sold it to them," he said.He described it as a "peaceful" event and a chance to see "how things used to be and how simple life can be".He added: "It's just a moment everybody should come and see."

Myleene, 47, shed light on the moment during a podcast episode with Married At First Sight's Paul C Brunson. She revealed on his show, We Need To Talk: "I walked in on him with a famous person on my birthday on a balcony." The mother-of-three claimed the pair tried to brush off their actions, but she insists "they were unzipping each other". She continued: "I kicked everybody out of the party, including his mum and dad. They went back to Ireland and his dad said, 'He doesn't get it from me'. I just remember that as being quite a weird thing to say." The pair began dating in the mid‑2000s, welcoming their first daughter, Ava, in 2007 and their second, Hero, in 2011. They married in 2011, but their marriage ended just six months later, with divorce finalised in 2013. Myleene has previously discussed her ex-husband's legal troubles. At one point, he was reportedly arrested in connection with heroin possession and distribution charges. Speaking to The Standard in 2012, Myleene revealed Graham had been arrested when he was 17 years old for heroin possession in his native Dublin and had jumped bail. She said at the time: "Before we even considered having a relationship, he was very up-front with me about what he had done. He was young and he got caught up in a bad crowd. I was shocked, but I also respected his honesty and the fact that he didn't make any excuses for his behaviour. Who was I to judge?" He was fined and given a suspended prison sentence and has since become a patron of the Drugsline charity and talks to children in schools about the dangers of drugs. Addressing how she felt about her ex-husband's unnamed lover in the aftermath, she said: "I've made peace with that situation now, but for a long time, it was very difficult to see their life. "Not that I would wish that on a family... I don't know I'm conflicted. My life literally just broke apart very, very publicly and their life, they've managed to continue building a family brand on it. It felt so difficult for a long time." According to Myleene, the marriage collapsed within six months. Quinn's hidden real estate purchase and refusal to sign a prenup made her feel betrayed. As she described it: "So we'd had the biggest row... I'd asked him why he wouldn't sign the prenup. On the night of our wedding I asked again... He'd actually got a house, a secret house that he'd bought already". The relationship - and subsequent divorce - was emotionally and financially draining. Myleene said, "All I will say to you is I've raised my children single‑handedly, financially, as a sole parent for 12 years". On the podcast, Myleene added: "My life literally just broke apart very, very publicly... And their life, they've managed to continue building a family brand on it and it felt so difficult for a long time". Looking back on their wedding she said it was the "most miserable" time, and that she cried "the entire reception". Country legend Jeannie Seely dies aged 85 months after her husband
Country music icon Jeannie Seely has died at the age of 85. She was best known for her songs including 1960s hits Don't Touch Me, I'll Love You More (Than You Need) and Can I Sleep In Your Arms? released in 1973. Seely, who also played at legendary venue the Grand Ole Opry more than 5,300 times, died at Summit Medical Center in Tennessee on Friday. Her cause of death was complications from an intestinal infection, according to People magazine. Seely had been battling health issues for much of 2025 following the death of her husband last year, a statement from her rep revealed. She had also undergone 'multiple back surgeries this spring for vertebrae repairs' as well as 'two emergency abdominal surgeries'. The music star had also spent 11 days in the intensive care unit after suffering from pneumonia, the statement added. Husband Eugene Ward had died from cancer in December 2024. 'I have known Jeanie Seely since we were early on in Nashville,' the I Will Always Love You hitmaker began, calling Seely one of her 'dearest friends'. Michael Rosen says Allan Ahlberg was a ‘pioneer of great children's literature'
The author, known for books including Peepo! and Woof!, died at the age of 87 on July 29, publisher Penguin Random House confirmed. Children's author Rosen, 79, who wrote the book We're Going On A Bear Hunt, wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter: 'Goodbye Allan. You were a pioneer of great children's literature, both in picture books and poetry. 'You were clever, funny and wise. My children loved your books. So did and so DO I.' Francesca Dow, head of children's literature at Penguin Random House, said: 'Allan was one of the most extraordinary authors I have had the privilege and pleasure to work with. 'His brilliant books – so many of them created with his late wife, Janet, the highly talented illustrator – have been described as 'mini masterpieces'. 'Allan's are some of the very best – true classics, which will be loved by children and families for years to come. Dear Allan, we will all miss you enormously.' Ahlberg was born in Croydon and raised by his adoptive parents in Oldbury in the Black Country. In 1975, he published his first children's book with his wife Janet, Here Are The Brick Street Boys. Together they went on to publish a number of books, including Each Peach Pear Plum (1978), Peepo! (1981), and The Baby's Catalogue (1982), their picture books Funnybones (1980) as well as the books in The Jolly Postman series. He wrote some books for older readers as well, including the poetry collections Please Mrs Butler (1983) and Heard It In The Playground (1989). Following his wife's death from breast cancer in 1994, he wrote a tribute to her in the form of Janet's Last Book (1997). Ahlberg and his wife Janet were among the most loaned authors in the decade leading up to 2010, according to figures from PLR (Public Lending Right). In 2014, Ahlberg revealed he turned down a literary lifetime achievement award because of the sponsor Amazon's tax arrangements. The author said it was 'unacceptable' to take the honorary award from reading charity BookTrust when the online firm's name was attached to it. Ahlberg is survived by his wife Vanessa, daughter Jessica and stepdaughters Saskia and Johanna.
