Hundreds of Apple fans snap up MacBook Pro for just £139 in fast-selling deal
The MacBook Pro is the pinnacle of Apple's laptop offerings. It is the machine of choice for those who favour a portable device for serious work.
However, these high-performance machines don't come cheap, with prices starting at £1,599 for the most basic new model and soaring to a whopping £7,349 for the top-of-the-range version.
However, budget-conscious buyers can save over a grand on a MacBook Pro by opting for an older model. While it may not handle heavy video editing tasks like the M4 Pro, the older i5 chip is more than capable of managing everyday administrative tasks such as emails and document creation.
This bargain can be found on Wowcher, where a refurbished i5 MacBook Pro is currently on offer for just £139. Since the deal went live, over 1,800 shoppers have snapped up the device, which comes with a 48-hour delivery option for those in a rush.
With 256GB of storage, there's ample space for a few documents or some light photo editing. The 4GB of RAM might fill up quickly if you're running multiple heavy-duty programmes simultaneously, but it's perfect for ticking off basic tasks while on the move.
This model even boasts several creature comforts that newer versions still feature, such as the MagSafe charger that stops the laptop from being damaged when someone trips over the cable.
It also comes with a comprehensive range of ports, including multiple USB 3s, Thunderbolt and a full-sized SD card slot, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Wowcher is selling these laptops as refurbished units, meaning they've been owned by other users beforehand. However, they've been restored by professionals so while they may still show some signs of cosmetic wear, they still function just as they did straight out of the box.
If you are looking to get a brand new device, the most affordable MacBook that Apple produces is the Air M4, which you can presently snap up at Amazon for £899. Alternatively, a MacBook Pro featuring the M1 chip from 2021 will cost you £618 at BackMarket.
Wowcher is flogging the refurbished MacBooks through Orion Computers, which boasts a 4.3 star rating on Trustpilot.
One review states: "Purchased a refurbished MacBook Pro, minor issue with the screen, customer services sent a returns label promptly and replaced the machine within five days. Great value, will recommend."
Another satisfied customer wrote: "Ordered a refurbished Chromebook. Honestly I wasn't expecting the very high quality I received! Amazing value for money and ready to start up. I cannot see where any repairs have been done, it is that good!"
But not all customers had such positive experiences. One disgruntled shopper said: "Computer appears to be good.
"However, the charger doesn't work and after emailing the company I've still heard nothing back from a week ago. Not quite the reaction I expected."
Another lukewarm review read: "It's a real shame.. I bought a Lenovo chrome book from Wowcher. Arrived in great condition and worked fantastic. Only had it since October. All of a sudden it stopped working. I turn it on and all I have is a black screen."
But an impressed five-star reviewer wrote: "Superb product and service. Both laptops look like new and are in excellent condition. Great packaging ensured safe arrival. Very pleased and will definitely use again."

Amazon's £160 smartwatch with 'refined style' dropped to £36
Shoppers were full of love for this affordable timepiece that does so much for a discount smartwatch Amazon shoppers have been praising a smartwatch that was discounted by more than £120 during a sale. People loved the fact that its "sporty and rugged design" made it "perfect for daily use or workouts" Normally £159.99, the Military Smart Watch by Atheewon is discounted by a massive 80%, cutting the final price down to just under £35.99. Built with a "rugged" look, this military-style smartwatch is "built to endure the toughest environments", Amazon claims. It boasts being "shockproof, drop-resistant and scratch-resistant" with a remarkable level of protection against "daily wear and extreme conditions". The online listing suggests that the device can stayed powered up for days after just two hours of charging. The device offers all you'd expect from a smartwatch for a fraction of the price of leading models like Apple and FitBit, like call, text and social media notifications. The watch comes in two colour choices - midnight retro blue (which is discounted) or casual black (which is full priced). For the fitness fanatics, the waterproof watch offers a range of features to make training and tracking progress effortless. With more than 110 programmed sport modes, it "analyses data in real time to help optimise training results and achieve exercise goals easily", Amazon adds. There are similar devices on the market for people wanting an affordable way into the smartwatch world without spending hundreds of pounds. For example, Sports Direct is offering this Karrimor Smart Watch (£19.99, down from £49.99) and the Reflex Active Series 23 Smart Watch from Currys (£39.99). But, Amazon shoppers have been praising this "sporty" watch. One said: "It brilliantly combines robust design, technical performance and sporty versatility. "Whether you are sporty, adventurous or simply a fan of smart gadgets, this smartwatch will accompany you everywhere, while enhancing your wrist." Another added: "I liked this smartwatch as soon as I unboxed it. "It has a sporty, rugged design, perfect for daily use or workouts. The strap is comfortable and adjustable, and the round screen is clear, even outdoors." A third posted: "This is my first smartwatch I never thought I needed one, but it has been a total game changer for exercise I've used it for more than 3 days without a single charge, and it's still running perfectly. The battery life is amazing!" And, someone else wrote: "The watch is really smart and has tons of workout variations, so you can choose exactly what you want to focus on. It keeps me motivated and active. Totally worth it!" But, not everyone was impressed. A shopper who left a one star review claimed: "I spent hours trying to get this paired and synced to no avail. "Ended up giving up out of frustration. If it's this hard to pair the watch and get it to work properly then forget it. "I don't need that kind of frustration. I'm returning the watch for that reason." Someone else penned: "Nice watch but step counter doesn't properly for me. Some days doesn't register at all and I know I've walked 3 or 4 miles." A separate individual suggested: "The two 'buttons' on the left are not even buttons. They are just part of the plastic casing. "I can't imagine an £150 watch having fake buttons?"

Apple confirms it's shutting big city centre store for good in DAYS in blow to high street shoppers
APPLE has confirmed it will close one of its city centre stores in just days. In a massive blow to the high street, the shop will serve its last customers on August 9. 1 Apple announced the two-floor Bristol store will shut after 15 years because of redevelopment plans at the Cabot Circus Shopping Centre. A store spokesperson said they have "loved" serving the local community and reassured employees that they will be offered roles elsewhere. They told Macrumours: "At Apple, we're always focused on providing an exceptional experience for all of our customers. "Due to the redevelopment plans at Cabot Circus Shopping Centre, which include the closure of the section where our store is located, Apple Bristol will close on August 9, 2025. "We've loved serving the Bristol community for over 15 years, and our valued team members will continue their roles at Apple." Residents will need to head to Apple Cribbs Causeway on the outskirts of Bristol, and Apple SouthGate in Bath in future. AMBITIOUS PLANS Cabot Circus is set to transform with new shops lining Philadelphia Street. Bristol Alliance Partnership proposed to replace the shops' first floor areas with a space that will suit new, flexible workspaces and healthcare. The plans also emphasised preserving the architectural heritage of the site, while supporting "sustainable urban development". Apple's current location will be transformed into a "vibrant" public space for locals to relax in. Despite the ambitious plans, many shoppers have expressed doubt over the long term management of the area. Major card chain with 163 shops launches closing down sales ahead of shutting its doors for good One unhappy local said: "No more reason ever to go there after that. How they have mismanaged that place." Another added: "The site is so badly managed long term. Bristol is really bad at good long term planning, sadly." Meanwhile a third said: "I don't understand what they are trying to achieve. It will never be a going out area will it." Why are retailers closing stores? RETAILERS have been feeling the squeeze since the pandemic, while shoppers are cutting back on spending due to the soaring cost of living crisis. High energy costs and a move to shopping online after the pandemic are also taking a toll, and many high street shops have struggled to keep going. However, additional costs have added further pain to an already struggling sector. The British Retail Consortium has predicted that the Treasury's hike to employer NICs from April will cost the retail sector £2.3billion. At the same time, the minimum wage will rise to £12.21 an hour from April, and the minimum wage for people aged 18-20 will rise to £10 an hour, an increase of £1.40. The Centre for Retail Research (CRR) has also warned that around 17,350 retail sites are expected to shut down this year. It comes on the back of a tough 2024 when 13,000 shops closed their doors for good, already a 28% increase on the previous year. Professor Joshua Bamfield, director of the CRR said: "The results for 2024 show that although the outcomes for store closures overall were not as poor as in either 2020 or 2022, they are still disconcerting, with worse set to come in 2025." It comes after almost 170,000 retail workers lost their jobs in 2024. End-of-year figures compiled by the Centre for Retail Research showed the number of job losses spiked amid the collapse of major chains such as Homebase and Ted Baker. It said its latest analysis showed that a total of 169,395 retail jobs were lost in the 2024 calendar year to date. This was up 49,990 – an increase of 41.9% – compared with 2023. It is the highest annual reading since more than 200,000 jobs were lost in 2020 in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced retailers to shut their stores during lockdowns. The centre said 38 major retailers went into administration in 2024, including household names such as Lloyds Pharmacy, Homebase, The Body Shop, Carpetright and Ted Baker. Around a third of all retail job losses in 2024, 33% or 55,914 in total, resulted from administrations. Experts have said small high street shops could face a particularly challenging 2025 because of Budget tax and wage changes. Professor Bamfield has warned of a bleak outlook for 2025, predicting that as many as 202,000 jobs could be lost in the sector. "By increasing both the costs of running stores and the costs on each consumer's household it is highly likely that we will see retail job losses eclipse the height of the pandemic in 2020." Then a fourth said: "Looks like chatgpt had a good work out there…" Followed by a fifth: "Who's getting a back hander on this work that doesn't need to happen?"
