2025 World Cup indoor greens similar to 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games Court
Malaysian Lawn Bowls Federation (MLBF) president Datuk Awalan Abdul Aziz said the World Cup will be held indoors, which requires several improvements to the existing bowling facilities to meet international standards.
"We have to stage it indoors. We need to create a new portable greens (court), which will be adopted at the 2026 Commonwealth Games and (to be) approved by World Bowls. We will place a layer over the existing carpet and on top of that, we will install the portable mat, which can be removed.
"We expect the procurement process to begin in three to four months. This preparation is important because our bowlers have never trained on portable greens, except for Nor Farah Ain Abdullah and Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple," he said after the Segambut Fiestabowls 2.0 in Bukit Kiara here today.
He added that two main bowling greens will be used for the tournament, including one existing court which will be converted entirely into a marquee structure (tent-covered) for an indoor venue.
A total of seven gold medals will be contested in men's and women's singles and pairs events as well as three special categories for para lawn bowlers.
A total of 12 countries are slated to participate in the World Cup - namely Australia, England, New Zealand, Scotland, South Africa, Canada, India, Hong Kong, Ireland, the United States, Wales and Malaysia (host). – BERNAMA

Harare [Zimbabwe], July 19 (ANI): Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) boss Tavengwa Mukuhlani has been appointed as the new chairman of the Africa Cricket Association (ACA). Mukuhlani had held the post in an acting capacity since November and was formally voted unanimously by all 23 member boards at the ACA's annual general meeting in Singapore on Friday. 'We stand today at the threshold of a new era for African cricket - an era defined by stronger governance, broader opportunity and renewed ambition,' Mukuhlani said in a statement issued by ZC, according to ESPNcricinfo. The ACA, whose membership includes two ICC Full Members, South Africa and Zimbabwe, has just completed a sweeping administrative clean up, adopting a fresh memorandum of incorporation aimed at better governance. Next on its to do list is launching a long planned Africa T20 league, reviving the Afro Asia Cup, and ensuring cricket's presence at the 2027 Africa Games in Egypt. 'These engagements are crucial not only for visibility but also for opening new doors of investment, policy support and continental collaboration,' he said. Mukuhlani has led ZC since 2015, winning three re elections, and currently serves on the ICC's finance and commercial affairs committee. Under his watch ZC clawed its way out of debt, survived a temporary ICC suspension for government interference, and secured a place for the women's team on the Future Tours Programme. The men's side, however, remains outside the World Test Championship (WTC) and missed the last two ODI World Cups as well as the previous T20 World Cup. They do have brighter times ahead as Zimbabwe will co host the 2027 50 over World Cup alongside South Africa and Namibia, and partner Namibia again for the 2026 Under 19 World Cup. (ANI)

Tight security for cross-border boat race at Sungai Golok
KOTA BARU: The General Operations Force (GOF) will step up security at the Pohon Jambu post near Sungai Golok during the two-day Muhibbah Boat Race starting tomorrow along the Malaysia-Thailand border. The move comes as more than 1,000 visitors from both countries are expected to gather near the riverbank, which borders the Thai town of Sungai Golok. Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said enhanced patrols and checks will be carried out to prevent any illegal cross-border activity during the event. "We don't want any parties taking advantage of the large crowd to commit illegal crossings. With the influx of visitors, including tourists from both sides, stricter control is essential," he told Bernama today. The traditional boat race, known locally as Yor Kong, will feature 40 teams, including five from Malaysia. The annual event is a highlight for locals, with residents of Kampung Pohon Jambu expected to gather along the riverbank with their families. MULHEIM AN DER RUHR: Malaysia's badminton team has stormed into the quarterfinals of the 2025 World University Games after a hard-fought 3-0 win against France in the round-of-16 at Westenergie Sporthalle. The French side pushed the Malaysian players to their limits, with all three matches going to three sets.
