Amarnath Yatra 2025 Resumes: 7,908 Pilgrims Depart From Jammu To Kashmir After Weather Suspension

India.com18-07-2025
A batch of 7,908 pilgrims left for Kashmir from Jammu on Friday, a day after the Amarnath Yatra was suspended due to bad weather. Officials said over 2.52 lakh yatris have so far performed the ongoing Amarnath Yatra since it started on July 3.
'Another batch of 7,908 yatris left Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in two escorted convoys for the Valley today. First escorted convoy of 92 vehicles carrying 2,879 yatris left at 3.30 a.m. for Baltal base camp while the second escorted convoy of 169 vehicles carrying 5,029 yatris left at 4.25 a.m. for Nunwan (Pahalgam) base camp,' officials said.
Bhumi Pujan of 'Chhari Mubarak' (Lord Shiva's Holy Mace) was performed at Pahalgam on July 10. The Chhari Mubarak was taken to Pahalgam by a group of seers led by the sole custodian of the Chhari Mubarak, Mahant Swami Deependra Giri, from its seat at the Dashnami Akhara Building in Srinagar to Pahalgam.
In Pahalgam, the Chhari Mubarak was taken to the Gauri Shankar temple, where the Bhumi Pujan was held.
The Chhari Mubarak was then taken back to its seat at the Dashnami Akhara building. It will start its final journey towards the cave shrine from Dashnami Akhara temple in Srinagar on August 4 and will reach the holy cave shrine on August 9, marking the official conclusion of the Yatra.
Authorities have made extensive multi-tier security arrangements for this year's Amarnath Yatra, as this takes place after the cowardly attack of April 22 in which Pakistan-backed terrorists killed 26 civilians after segregating them based on faith in the Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam.
An additional 180 companies of CAPFs have been brought in to augment the existing strength of the Army, BSF, CRPF, SSB and the local police.
This year, the Yatra started on July 3 and will end after 38 days on August 9, coinciding with Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan. Yatris approach the holy cave shrine situated 3888 metres above sea level in the Kashmir Himalayas either from the traditional Pahalgam route or the shorter Baltal route.
Those using the Pahalgam route pass through Chandanwari, Sheshnag and Panchtarni to reach the cave shrine, covering a distance of 46 km on foot. This trek takes a pilgrim four days to get to the cave shrine. And, those using the shorter Baltal route have to trek 14 km to reach the cave shrine and return to the base camp the same day after having darshan.
No helicopter services are available to Yatris this year due to security reasons.
The cave shrine houses an ice stalagmite structure that wanes and waxes with the phases of the moon. Devotees believe that the ice stalagmite structure symbolises the mythical powers of Lord Shiva.

Pakistan says it's close to US trade deal, Washington gives no timeline

Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said on Friday the United States and Pakistan were 'very close' to a trade deal that could come within days, but comments from the US after Dar met with Secretary of State Marco Rubio mentioned no timeline. 'I think we are very close to finalizing a deal with US Our teams have been here in Washington, discussing, having virtual meetings and a committee has been tasked by the prime minister to fine-tune now,' Dar said in a discussion at the Atlantic Council think tank in Washington. 'It's not going to be months, not even weeks, I would say (just) days,' he said. Under US President Donald Trump, Washington has attempted to renegotiate trade agreements with many countries that he threatened with tariffs over what he calls unfair trade relations. Many economists dispute Trump's characterization. The Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar @MIshaqDar50, met with the U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio @SecRubio, today in Washington D.C. A post by Rubio on X after the meeting and the State Department's statement mentioned no timeline for finalizing a trade deal. The State Department statement did not mention India. Trump has repeatedly taken credit for the India-Pakistan ceasefire he announced on social media on May 10 after Washington held talks with both sides. India disputes Trump's claims that the ceasefire resulted from his intervention and trade threats. India's position is that New Delhi and Islamabad must resolve problems directly with no outside involvement. The April 22 terrorist attack in Kashmir's Pahalgam claimed the lives of 26 civilians, sparling heavy cross-border fighting between the nuclear-armed neighbors in the latest escalation of a decades-old rivalry. India struck Pakistan on May 7 under 'Operation Sindoor' and the two nations exchanged hostilities, killing dozens across three days. The ceasefire was declared on May 10. New Delhi blamed the April attack on Pakistan, which denied responsibility and called for a neutral investigation. Washington condemned the attack but did not blame Islamabad.

'Pakistan has no objection to America listing TRF as terror group': Foreign minister Ishaq Dar

Pakistan's foreign minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar defended Islamabad's stance on the proscribed terror group The Resistance Front, shortly after the United States listed the outfit as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation (FTO). The Resistance Front – which India and the United States believe is an offshoot of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba – claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. US secretary of state Marco Rubio (R) and Pakistani foreign minister Ishaq Dar walk together prior to a meeting at the department of state on July 25, 2025 in Washington, DC.(AFP) 'It is obviously a sovereign decision of the United States to designate the TRF. We have no issue. And we welcome, if they have any evidence, that they are involved,' said Dar at an event in Washington DC. Dar met US secretary of state Marco Rubio earlier on Friday. 'Linking the TRF to the Lashkar-e-Taiba is wrong. That outfit was dismantled years ago by Pakistan. The actors were prosecuted, arrested and jailed, and the entire outfit was destroyed,' said Dar, repeating a claim often made by Pakistan's government. Earlier, Dar told Pakistan's Parliament that Islamabad had blocked mention of the TRF in a UN Security Council Resolution which condemned the Pahalgam attacks. 'We opposed the mention of TRF in the UNSC statement. I got calls from global capitals, but Pakistan will not accept. TRF was deleted, and Pakistan prevailed," said Dar in April. Dar added at the time that Pakistan would require further proof about the TRF's activities. Dar defended that stance in response to a query from HT at a public event on Friday. Pakistan's foreign minister said no evidence was available at the time against the TRF to justify its inclusion in a UNSC statement. India declared TRF a terrorist organisation under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in January 2023. The South Asia Terrorism Portal indicates that TRF emerged in 2019 via social media announcements, and since then, it has taken responsibility for several attacks across Jammu and Kashmir, including a grenade attack in Srinagar, injuring seven civilians and targeted killings in 2021. India has persistently pushed for the TRF to be designated as a terrorist entity internationally, submitting evidence and representations to the UN's 1267 Sanctions Committee monitoring team in May and November 2024, having raised this issue previously throughout 2023.

‘Op Sindoor ongoing, readiness must remain': CDS Chauhan

Chief of defence staff General Anil Chauhan on Friday said that Operation Sindoor, India's direct military action against Pakistan after the April 22 Pahalgam terror strike, is still on, adding that the country's military readiness must always remain at a very high level. CDS Anil Chauhan stressed that 'information, technology and scholar warriors' will play an important role in the future.(PTI) Chauhan said there were no runners-up in war and any military must always be alert and operationally ready. 'Our preparedness level has to be very high — 24X7, 365 days,' he said at a seminar organised by the Centre for Air Power Studies. India launched Operation Sindoor in the early hours of May 7 and struck terror and military installations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) following the Pahalgam terror strike. Between the launch of the operation in the early hours of May 7 and the ceasefire on May 10 evening, Indian forces bombed nine terror camps in Pakistan and PoK, killing at least 100 terrorists, and the Indian Air Force struck targets at 13 Pakistani airbases and military installations. To be sure, the political and military leadership has maintained that Operation Sindoor has only been paused. In June, defence minister Rajnath Singh said Operation Sindoor was the natural progression of the 2016 surgical strikes and the 2019 Balakot airstrikes in Pakistan, and it was conducted in a manner that forced Islamabad to ask for a ceasefire, articulating India's firm resolve against terror. In his address, Chauhan stressed that 'information, technology and scholar warriors' will play an important role in the future. He underlined the role of scholar warriors in modern warfare. He described a scholar warrior as 'a military professional who combines intellectual depth and combat skills, who possesses strong academic knowledge and practical military expertise that enable him to analyse complex situations and address diverse challenges to meet military aims and objectives.' Chauhan also underlined the importance of decision-makers who have the ability to move across domains without hesitation, linking strategic intent to executable plans. He stressed on the value of in-depth strategic knowledge and intellectual clarity in shaping military outcomes. Last week, the CDS said that Pakistan used unarmed drones and loitering munitions on May 10 during Operation Sindoor but it could not inflict any damage on Indian military or civilian infrastructure. Most of them were neutralized through a combination of kinetic and non-kinetic means, he said. Chauhan had earlier said the operation showed why locally developed unmanned aerial systems and counter-UAS 'built for our terrain and our needs are crucial,' stressing India cannot rely on imported niche technology. 'Dependence of foreign technologies weakens our preparedness, limits our ability to scale up production and results in a shortfall of critical spares for sustenance and round-the-clock availability,' he said at the time.
