2 Bangladesh-Origin US Nationals Deported From Mizoram Over Alleged Links With CHT Insurgents: Sources
Two Bangladesh-origin US nationals were arrested in Mizoram's Lengpui airport on Saturday and deported from the state capital Aizawl after it was learnt that they planned to meet militants of the KNA/F, top sources in the northeast state told NDTV.
Intelligence reports indicated four US nationals would be coming to Aizawl using tourist visas on May 2, sources said.
While two of them were identified as Chekun and Saron, the names of the other two are not known, sources said.
After reaching Aizawl, they planned to meet KNA/F leaders including Nathan Lawncheo Bawm, sources said.
Mr Bawm, whose whereabouts are unknown, is the founder of the Kuki-Chin National Front and its armed wing, the Kuki-Chin National Army, active in Bangladesh's Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT).
From Aizawl, the four planned to move to Lawangtlai district and visit Bawm community refugee camps in the border areas, sources said.
At least two Bangladesh-origin US nationals had played a key role in raising the Kuki-Chin National Front in CHT during its nascent stage, sources said.
Since they continue to support subversive activities in the border areas, the authorities received information to take appropriate and timely action on the matter, sources said.
The Kuki-Chin National Front has been allegedly using acronyms such as 'KNA' to confuse people; they have started using KNF/A in recent times, sources said.

IMPHAL: Manipur's Kuki-Zo community has resolved that its 10 MLAs, including seven from BJP, will not participate in any govt formation if President's rule ends in the state. The move marks a sharp escalation in the state's ethnic and political divide. The decision came at a joint meeting of key Kuki-Zo civil society organisations and community bodies held Friday at Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) secretariat. Representatives from KIM and its units attended alongside district units and department heads. Manipur has been under President's Rule since Feb amid continuing ethnic unrest between Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities, which erupted in May 2023. The joint meeting has adopted a resolution asserting that the community would never compromise on its ancestral land, culture, identity, and its political, social, and economic rights. While the statement stopped short of making any demand for statehood or administrative separation, the unified declaration is seen as a direct challenge to any attempt at political normalisation in Manipur without addressing Kuki-Zo grievances in Manipur.

Sentence of British boy who killed Bhim Kohli, 80, to be reviewed for being unduly lenient
TOI Correspondent from London: The solicitor general has referred the sentence handed down to a 15-year-old British boy for killing 80-year-old Indian-origin Punjab-born dog walker Bhim Kohli to the Court of Appeal for being unduly lenient. The boy and a girl (13) were convicted of manslaughter on April 8 after a trial at which they pleaded not guilty. The pair were sentenced on June 5 at Leicester Crown Court. Kohli was killed while walking his dog Rocky in a Leicestershire park on Sept 1 last year. The boy, who was 14 at the time, wearing a balaclava, racially abused Kohli before slapping him across the face with his slider shoe as Kohli was kneeling, and then kicked and punched him to the ground. He was sentenced to seven years in prison for attacking and injuring Kohli. The girl, who was 12 at the time, was sentenced to a three-year youth rehabilitation order and six-month curfew, for encouraging the boy to use violence, filming the attack and laughing. Kohli died in hospital the following day. Originally from Punjab, he had previously owned a factory that made jumpers. A spokesperson for the attorney general's office told TOI: 'The solicitor general, Lucy Rigby, was appalled by this violent, cowardly attack on an innocent man. After undertaking a detailed review of the case, the solicitor general concluded the sentence of the 15-year-old boy could be referred to the Court of Appeal. The court will determine if the sentence is increased or not.' The sentence of the 13-year-old girl will not be referred. Peter Bedford, one of the MPs who had requested the sentence get reviewed, said: 'Whilst I welcome the referral of the male's sentence as being 'unduly lenient', I am shocked that the female's sentence, which is non-custodial in nature, has not been referred for reconsideration.' Outside court, following the sentencing, Kohli's daughter, Susan, had said she felt angry and disappointed at the sentences.
