The concession will be available from 6 am on Aug 8 to 12 am on Aug 10.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued directions for making a sufficient number of buses available on the roads in urban and rural areas during the festival. He also directed patrolling on the routes to ensure there is no congestion.
The Yogi govt allowed women passengers a free ride in roadways buses on Rakshabandhan since 2017. Last year, it extended the facility to city buses as well, which will be ensured this year too.

Rakhi rush: Software roll-out, tech snags disrupt postal services in Ludhiana district
With just four days to go for the Raksha Bandhan festival, visitors flocking post offices across Ludhiana to send rakhis and gifts to their siblings were left stranded on Monday after a major technical glitch during the roll-out of advance software IT 2.0, brought all postal services, including rakhi mail bookings through speed post, and registered post, to a complete halt. Along with the visitors, postal staff too expressed frustration over the major technical fallout. (HT Photo) Reportedly, the disruption followed a nationwide software upgrade implemented by the India Post on Monday, which has led to severe service inefficiencies. While upgrading the tech is part of a larger digital overhaul of postal systems across the country, the simultaneous roll-out has caused log in failures and long system buffer times at local post offices, leaving staff helpless and customers frustrated. Notably, the issue isn't new. Several post offices in Ludhiana have been facing erratic services since Thursday, particularly in speed post and registered post both widely used for sending rakhis and festive packages. Explaining the disruptions, Manpreet Singh, a staff at the Millerganj post office said, 'Even after logging into our respective IDs, the system keeps buffering and fails to process the bookings. Raksha Bandhan is our busiest season. With high volumes of bookings and deliveries, it's disheartening to face fuming customers and be unable to help.' Meanwhile, Gagandeep Kaur, a resident visiting the Millerganj branch, said, ' I have been coming here since Thursday hoping to send rakhi to my brother, but every time they ask me to come the next day. It's already delayed, and now I'm not sure if it will even reach him before Raksha Bandhan.' Vandita Jain, another customer at the head post office on Ferozepur Road, shared, 'My son works in Delhi and could not get leave this year. I packed a few goodies to send, but the booking counter staff told me the system is down. I always rely on the post office, but this time I might go for a private courier.' Along with the visitors, postal staff too expressed frustration over the major technical fallout. An employee at the head post office admitted that the situation has been equally taxing for them by stating, 'We're bearing the brunt of public anger every day. The new software was supposed to streamline operations, but its abrupt roll-out has only created more confusion and chaos,' the employee said. Prashant Singla, superintendent of the head post office, acknowledged the problem and assured that services would likely be restored by Tuesday morning. 'The issue occurred because the advanced software was installed simultaneously across India. With a pan-India log in, the system collapsed. We're working on restoring services at the earliest.'

In his address, Adityanath emphasised Saharanpur's deep spiritual roots, identifying it as the sacred land of Maa Shakumbhari and Mata Bala Tripura Sundari. He announced that the construction of Maa Shakumbhari University has been completed and its official inauguration will take place shortly. He further shared plans for the Maa Shakumbhari Corridor and an elevated road to improve all-weather access to the pilgrimage site. The CM said his government is committed to ensuring a balance between rapid development and the preservation of cultural heritage. Criticising previous regimes, he alleged that they indulged in caste-based politics and appeasement, dividing society along caste lines while limiting the benefits of government schemes to a single influential family. He said the actions of one family often brought disrepute to entire community. In contrast, Adityanath asserted that the current administration has reconnected Saharanpur with its historical identity and restored a sense of pride among its people. The chief minister announced that under the Smart City Mission, all municipal bodies at district headquarters across the state will be developed as smart cities. Highlighting the government's focus on youth development, he said a sports college is currently under construction in Saharanpur, while a sports university is being established in Meerut. Emphasizing the importance of sports in nurturing young talent, he remarked: 'Our youth will truly bloom only when they play,' adding that sports colleges will be set up in every division of the state. Highlighting the improved infrastructure in the region, he said the travel time between Saharanpur and Delhi has now been reduced to just three hours, thanks to enhanced connectivity. He noted that earlier, people had to travel to Lucknow to seek development, but now, he said: 'We are bringing development to you.' Adityanath praised the wood carving and furniture industry of Saharanpur, saying that with proper support from earlier governments, it could have achieved a global reputation surpassing even Italian furniture. Emphasizing the need to promote indigenous industries, he urged citizens to adopt Swadeshi products, asserting that doing so would empower local artisans and contribute to strengthening the economy. The CM announced that women will be able to travel free of cost on buses on August 8, 9 and 10 during Raksha Bandhan celebrations. He also emphasized the importance of cleanliness during the festive period, urging citizens to take responsibility for maintaining hygiene. Additionally, he called upon people to organize Tiranga Yatras and collectively sing the National Anthem on August 15, in honour of Independence Day. The CM further asserted that under the current government, India is achieving new heights of development while honouring its ancient traditions. Referring to the One District, One Product (ODOP) initiative and the Vishwakarma Shram Samman Yojana, Adityanath said these schemes have provided a fresh identity and recognition to local artisans, including handicraftsmen. He emphasized that Saharanpur's sculptures and handicrafts are playing a vital role in boosting the local economy and promoting traditional craftsmanship.

Citing Malegaon blast case verdict, Yogi accuses opposition of ‘shielding terrorists'
1 2 Lucknow: Accusing opposition parties of "implicating innocent Hindus" while shielding actual terrorists in reference to the recent clean chit to the accused of the Malegaon Blast, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday alleged that Congress and Samajwadi Party repeatedly conspired against nationalists and were, in the Malegaon case, questioning the credibility of the country's constitutional institutions. "Will Congress ever apologise to the nation for its misdeeds?" the CM asked while addressing a public meeting in Meerut. He further said that the politics of Congress and SP was long centred on casteism, communal riots, and appeasement of mafia. Calling their approach to terrorism "soft", the CM demanded a public apology from Congress, stating that its politics rooted in casteism, riots, and mafia appeasement deeply harmed the nation. The CM was in Meerut to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for development projects and participated in the bhoomi pujan of a Rs 2,517 crore Integrated Township project, spread across 295 hectares. The CM also provided financial assistance to young entrepreneurs, self-help groups, and housing scheme beneficiaries. Dedicating the township project to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the CM announced that its name would be 'Atal Shatabdi'. Located near the Rapid Rail corridor, this project aims to offer affordable and sustainable housing to residents of the National Capital Region. "The township will reshape Meerut's urban landscape with integrated residential, industrial, and commercial facilities, along with schools, technical institutes, and medical colleges. The project is expected to generate employment for lakhs and establish Meerut as a new hub of development," he said. Elaborating on the development in Meerut in recent years, the CM said that earlier known for its 'Chor Bazar' areas like Sotiganj, it was now gaining international recognition for its sports goods industry, thanks to initiatives like Rapid Rail, the 12-lane expressway, and the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme. The country's first sports university, named after Major Dhyan Chand, is coming up in Meerut, he said, while the country's longest expressway connecting Meerut to Prayagraj will be completed by the end of the year, reducing travel time to Lucknow to just six hours. He also announced the commencement of survey work for the Meerut–Haridwar expressway and the integration of divisional offices under one roof as key developmental initiatives and announced new development projects as well, including the reconstruction of the Inner Ring Road and a new Circuit House. He urged people to purchase indigenous products over foreign goods to stop national wealth "from flowing into anti-national activities". The CM also announced that on the occasion of Rakshabandhan, women would be able to travel for free in state transport buses from Aug 8 to 10. He credited the govt's zero-tolerance policy for ridding Meerut of riots and crime and putting it on the path of development. "Eight years ago, Meerut was burning in the flames of communal violence. Today, it is surging ahead with infrastructure like the Rapid Rail and Expressways," he said. During the event, the Chief Minister distributed loans amounting to Rs 29 crore to 675 entrepreneurs under the Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyam Vikas Abhiyan. Financial assistance of Rs 64 crore was also extended to 881 self-help groups. Keys to homes were handed over to beneficiaries of the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana, and farmers excelling in their field were honoured with citation certificates.
