The second round allotment list will be published on July 19. Online reporting for this round will be held between July 19 and 21. The second or Special Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) will be conducted from July 23 to July 28 for admission into vacant seats of these courses following the first and second rounds.
"Allotment to special OJEE candidates will be done from the vacant seats only. Therefore, care must be taken while filling the choice by second OJEE/special OJEE candidates," said OJEE chairman D P Satapathy.
The third or final round allotment will be announced on Aug 1. Online reporting will be done for this round from Aug 1 to Aug 3. All candidates will physically report to the colleges or institutions on Aug 1, and the reporting will continue till Aug 6.
"After final allotment, all candidates who paid part admission-cum-seat confirmation fee payment and verified their documents can download the final allotment letter and report to the finally allotted institute or college as per the schedule. Failing which, the allotment will be cancelled, and the vacant seats will be filled in institute or college level admission," said Satapathy.
He said the e-counselling process will guide students on how to choose their colleges and courses based on their JEEMAIN-2025 or OJEE-2025 ranks as applicable. "Students need to read the counselling brochure and step-by-step process carefully and stay updated with new notices, if any," said the chairman.

Punjab plans new law to ban tree felling in cities, seeks mandatory replanting

CHANDIGARH: In order to maintain green cover for ensuring ecological balance and to regulate the felling and replanting of trees, the Punjab government has come up with the tree act, The Punjab Protection of Trees Act, 2025. Under the proposed legislation, no one will be allowed to cut trees in urban areas without permission. Every jurisdiction in the state will have a designated 'tree officer' whose approval will be mandatory before a tree is felled. Sources said that the state forest and wildlife department has prepared the draft and sent it to various departments for comments. Once feedback is received, it will be sent to the state cabinet for final approval and subsequent notification. As per the proposed act, a copy of which is with this newspaper, the objective is 'to maintain green cover for ensuring ecological balance besides preventing pollution of environment and conserving the soil.' It thus seeks to regulate the felling and replanting of trees in Punjab. The act will be applicable to all municipal bodies across Punjab. Rural areas will be exempted as agroforestry is carried out in villages, said sources. According to the act, only a dead tree or one which has fallen without the aid of human agency in any urban area will be permitted to be cut. Three officers will be appointed by the state government from either the local bodies department or any other department, and they will be responsible for granting permission to individuals or government agencies seeking to fell trees. The officer must give a decision on an application within 30 days, and within seven days for a dead tree. The officer must record the reasons for the decision after conducting an inquiry and, if they find the tree poses a danger to a person or property, the permission cannot be refused. The act states that any person granted permission to cut a tree shall be bound to plant and tend two trees in lieu of every tree cut, preferably in the same area. If land is not available, the tree officer may allow trees to be planted elsewhere or permit the applicant to deposit money in the state treasury, but reasons for this must be recorded in writing.

Karnataka cuts Class 10 pass marks from 35% to 33%, rule applies from 2025–26

Big news for Class 10 students in Karnataka! The Karnataka School Examination and Evaluation Board (KSEAB) has lowered the SSLC passing marks from 35% to 33%, aiming to ease pressure on students and promote better pass per the new rule, students now need to score at least 206 marks out of 625 (including internal and external assessments) to pass. But there's a catch – they must also score at least 30% in each subject's written exam, which comes to 24 out of 80 change, part of the draft Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (Amendment) 2025 regulations, was published in the state gazette on July 25, 2025. The rule is likely to be finalised after a 15-day objection window during which parents, teachers and the public can give CHANGING IN SSLC PASSING RULES?Passing marks reduced from 35% to 33%Students need at least 206 out of 625 marks to passMust get minimum 30% in each subject's written examChange applies from the 2025–26 academic yearThe move follows KSEAB's broader recommendation to align with CBSE standards. However, the government rejected the suggestion to reduce total marks for the first language subject from 125 to 100, so the total still stands at management bodies welcomed the new rules but called for clarity on subject-wise passing to officials, this change will help more students from rural and underprivileged backgrounds pass the SSLC exam, while still maintaining basic quality standards.- Ends
