It has not been a good week to be an Auburn Tigers fan.
On Wednesday, five-star recruits Earnest Rankins and Cederian Morgan committed to the Florida State Seminoles and the Alabama Crimson Tide, respectively, with each prospect having Auburn on their shortlist heading into the week.

Auburn is not only struggling to land commitments, but they are also failing to keep those who had previously pledged their allegiance to The Plains. With 2026 four-stars Denarius Gray and Shadarius Toodle denouncing their commitments from Auburn in the past week, the Tigers are now ranked 89th regarding the 2026 recruiting class, per 247Sports.

Auburn houses just six hard commits, highlighted by four-star edge rusher Hezekiah Harris and four-star quarterback and former Penn State Nittany Lions commit Peyton Falzone.
For head coach Hugh Freeze, who finds himself in the crosshairs of fans after the program's latest setbacks, he believes the NIL era is to blame. According to Justin Hokanson of On3, Freeze says Auburn is "really low" on NIL funds compared to other top programs that are in play for their recruits.

Freeze also emphasized that his staff continues to operate under the rules and guidelines presented by the NCAA and Congress, which he feels other teams may not be as law-abiding. Nevertheless, Freeze has a belief in the program's direction, with a top-ten recruiting class in 2026 not out of the picture.
Auburn AD John Cohen hints that August 1 — the first day players can sign NIL deals — as a chance for the Tigers to flip recruits.

(AP Photo/Mike Stewart) NEW YORK (AP) — New York Mets reliever José Buttó was put on the 15-day injured list Friday with an unspecified illness. 'We're not going to get into the details of it out of respect of Buttó, but we don't anticipate this being a long term,' Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said. 'We expect him to be back right after the All-Star break.' Advertisement Mendoza said he didn't anticipate that Buttó will need to go on a minor league injury rehabilitation assignment. A 27-year-old right-hander, Buttó is 2-1 with a 2.47 ERA in 31 relief appearances, the last a two-inning outing at Pittsburgh last Saturday. New York recalled right-hander Chris Devenski from Triple-A Syracuse. Brought up for the fourth time this season, the 34-year-old right-hander has made four appearances for the Mets. Right-hander Kodai Senga, sidelined since June 12 by a strained right hamstring, is to start a rehab assignment Saturday with Double-A Binghamton. He is to throw 60-65 pitches, according to Mendoza, and soon could return to New York's injury-ravaged rotation. 'We'll see how it goes tomorrow and then see how he responds and we'll have a decision after that,' Mendoza said. Advertisement New York didn't have an update on reliever Dedniel Núñez, who was put on the IL on Thursday because of a sprained right elbow sprain and could require Tommy John surgery for the second time. 'He's going to to visit a doctor next week because of a holiday weekend,' Mendoza said. ___ AP MLB:

What does Amari Williams bring to the Boston Celtics rotation?

Amari Williams is the Boston Celtics' latest project. The British-born big man was selected with the 46th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Entering the NBA, his best asset is his playmaking, both from the post and in the half-court. Williams is also a reliable offensive weapon, capable of being a solid screener, rebounder and interior scorer. However, his defense has plenty of room for improvement. His limited hip flexibility and heavy feet mean quicker guards and forwards could target him. Williams, a five-year collegiate product out of Drexler and Kentucky, will likely spend his first professional season with the Maine Celtics in the G League. Boston has enjoyed strong success with their developmental pipeline in recent years. Brad Stevens will undoubtedly be hoping that the pipeline continues to pay dividends for the franchise. Advertisement If you haven't seen much of Williams' game, Tomasz Kordylewski posted an eight minute compilation of his best moments in college, showcasing all aspects of his game. From passing to interior scoring and even his ability to bring the ball up the court, Kordylewski captures a well-rounded view of Williams' skill set.
